the only reason i can think of is to avoid creating more interactions than necessary. e.g., as alignment cop you can't actually give a guilty on somebody besides your partners without immediately creating a 1 v 1. the alternative is you have to clear townies, or give fake innocent checks on scum mates. its a claim that will very quickly out or put mafia at a disadvantage you if you are mafia, especially if town forces you to use it in a particular way.

in the world where you are maf, backtracking might seem like the best possible out. The play yesterday claiming full cop seemed to be an act of desperation even then. IMO if you are mafia you feel the need to not be forced to be a fake alignment cop due to the above para, but yesterday you needed to claim being an alignment cop to survive.

i am ok with the idea of flipping NE first because I think town may be a little kill-heavy if he is town with me and im like 99% sure he can't be town with you also town, but tbh i just scum read you more.
