  • Hello Pinkacross, I've want to build a team for Volcanion and I made a Anti-Stall team. Team Paste https://pokepast.es/dcdecca14d1a57a8 (Nat Dex)

Volcanions set can be flexible it can be a Z move user bc team has reliable defogger, maybe changing EP to Sludge Bomb for Fairy Types and WOgerpon or a trapper with Fire Spin but I can't choose the team doesn't look like fairyphobic and don't look like it needs a trapper but I think I change EP to Sludge Bomb. Ursaluna can remove problematic pokemon Raging Bolt, Tapu Koko, Mega Diancie and Mega Ttar (Mega Ttar is rising from UUBL to OU TGOAT) and create a breaking core with Volcanions Taunt, Steam Eruption and Ursalunas Guts, SD and high BP moves.

Also other pokemons roles on the team are:

Zamazenta as a speed control and MLop check

Ferrothorn is Stealth Rock/Spikes setter and mixed wall

Zapdos is Physical wall and defoger

The last team slot is either Stealth Rock setter Clefable and create a Hazard Stack core with Ferrothorn and break past Stall more easily or Tapu Lele can be a Scarf mon or Z move user depending on what team needs

What do you think Pinkacross, is this team good, am I needing to adjust something
    paste: https://pokepast.es/3c54a0cadf5872a2

deo-s team with deo-s as speed control/sweeper. Im like 70% sure that this team has way too much offense for the rest of the team to support.
    Pinkacross
    Pinkacross
I think the issue is the lack of strong priority combined with the lack of substantial on defensive core. Offense is a totally valid archetype and this team is worth testing, but I can imagine this team having a super rough time against a lot of sweepers.
Hello Pinkacross, I have played singles for a while but this is my first time trying to build a team around my favorite mega: Ampharos for champions and decided to make it a TR team rather than eletric terrain team. I would like to know if I'm lacking anything in my team building so i can have a more consistent team?

    Thank you very much.

I'm afraid if we look at this through the NatDex lens, I'd probably suggest a full rebuild, there's a lot of stuff that's off here. Heat Rock Torkoal isn't great, specs is probably better, Azu + torkoal is pretty bad antisynergy, Ampharos is beyond unviable, Nuzzle isn't great on Hatt in TR, Sinistcha isn't a good TR abuser, and I don't see why Farigiraf has Safety Goggles and Protect, I also generally don't see the vision with including Farigiraf.
    Pinkacross
    Pinkacross
Is this for doubles or singles?
    Yosen
    Yosen
Built for both, more singles than double. I really did want to make mega ampharos work. I'll take your idea of full rebuilding though
Hey Pinkacross, I recently made a team that I thought could be ok. I like the idea of a screens offense/HO, and so I made a team to experiment. Does this team have any fundamental issues that may need rectifying?

I thought CB scizor could be good for stall, but if the set doesn't fit I'll try something else. Could a metagross work? I know it's not 100% viable but my I-Val matchup isn't great, so I would like some priority.
    Pinkacross
    Pinkacross
Metagross and Scizor are both absolutely never getting past a Corviknight or Dondozo I'm afraid. Priority is good to fit in, probably the priority user won't be the same pokemon as the stallbreaker. SD Scizor is a solid team member, but you'll need another slot to work toward stallbreaking.

Could a Specs Raging Bolt work? I can use SD Iron Boulder to beat Blissey, and the rest of the calcs are pretty good, AV Glowking could be an issue however.
Hello. I got recently inspired by your balance building video and i wanted to make smth similar. I decided to make a specs moth team but when i asked what mons could fix my problems all they talked about is me being a idiot for using moth next to the now removed dondozo ( setup btw ) aka they didnt help. I at the end wanted to ask at a place where skill wouldnt be mentioned. https://pokepast.es/a31ae0d3b9741214 heres the team:) all i wanna know is what mons are problems and what could fit to check them.
I wanted to take inspiration from you recent video on fixing teams, and so I wanted to work on a fake stall team. Would Dondozo be viable or is it too much of a momentum drain to really fit on the team, even with an offensive set?
    Pinkacross
    Pinkacross
Dondozo is a great option on fake stall. Curse Protect 2 attacks with leftovers is very solid (Tera Dark Crunch Avalanche or Tera Ground EQ Avalanche are my favorites) or there's also the Choice Band Wave Crash route!
    Someonewins
    Someonewins
I also wanted to ask if I needed priority on a fake stall team, as I worry for the HO matchup, but if the team is relatively bulky already (due to being fake stall), do I need priority?
    Pinkacross
    Pinkacross
I'd say you're thinking a bit too deeply about it... Fake Stall isn't really a viable archetype, it's more in memeteam territory. If you were to try and make it viable, I don't think it's possible honestly, but it is an interesting idea! Priority probably would be a good idea in that case.
    Hi Pinkacross,
I love your teambuilding videos; they really got me into competitive singles (even though I'm not that good at battling yet). Recently, I've been challenging myself to build teams with only mons from one generation, and this gen 4 hazardstack has been my best attempt so far. I'd love to hear your input! Paste: https://pokepast.es/8fa520cffef56f68

Gliscor: Pretty standard set, spike setter+knock absorber is a staple on these kinds of teams. Eq could be swapped out for toxic for less passivity or u-turn for a nice a pivoting core with Rotom.

Heatran: Stealth rock setter. I hate magma storm with a burning passion, but I feel like it pairs too well with taunt to pass up. Tera ghost helps with certain Zama sets, which are otherwise a big problem for this team.

Mismagius: The only real option for a spinblocker that I had, but it performed surprisingly well compared to my expectations. Levitate + colbur berry makes it a fair answer to most Great Tusk sets, and pain split works well with Mismagius' low HP. This team has multiple ways of spreading burn to hopefully shore up its abysmal physical defense and boost hex damage.

Rotom-W: Contact punisher and pivot with volt swtich. Tera steel lets it tank grass moves (As an aside, this guy really would really benefit from scald and it seems thematically appropriate on a washing machine).

Weavile: 4 attacks boots attacker that loves hazard support. Low kick destroys gambit and other opposing dark types.

Darkrai: Standard boots set with some nice offensive overlap with Weavile. I would love to fit knock off, but I didn't think I could justify it with how useful its other coverage moves are.
    Pinkacross
    Pinkacross
Cool challenge! Given the constraints you're working with, the 6 you've picked seem solid. My main suggestion is that you change Heatran to Lava Plume over Magma Storm, and go Protect over Taunt. And then I'd go Knock Off over Nasty Plot on Darkrai. This maintains your solid breaking core, but honestly Magma Storm SpDef Heatran really isn't breaking anything, it's just unreliable and misses a ton. I think this will work better, but let me know!
Hello Pinkacross I think I am now being good at teambuilding. I am now don't using tools like Munchstats or Pikalytics instead I am taking notes of what my pokemons job and starting notes for ''What pokemon it struggles to break, what pokemon its not walling, what pokemon can make use of my pokemons breaking problematic mons for it'' and this is now like this because of you, you show me the way and the first team I post to you is this: https://pokepast.es/80f8820782c76ad5 (Nat Dex)

Dhelmise is created for Hazard Stacking for sure because it has Rapid Spin for hazard removal and Ghost typing for spinblocking. 12 Attack EVs is for OHKO Mega Latios and Gholdengo and %50 chance to OHKO Glowking

Hamurott is nearly mandatory for Hazard Stack and pairs well with Dhelmise also I choose AV set maybe Its not that popular but I use AV set because I want it to be more bulky, it hits harder than Choice Scarf set or non SD offensive set and because of non choice lock it can use other moves I want to use

Landorus-T is the Physicall wall, Stealth Rock Setter, toxic spreader and phsical wall of the team (may remove 36 speed IVs in Landorus-T I put that for Outspeeding a pokemon but I forgot now)

Iron Moth is completing Grass/Water/Fire core and stopping Fairy types that threatens the team (if that Fairy type is not Scarf Lele or Maybe Iron Val) and can be a good switch in punisher with Energy Ball or the STABs and It can keep momentum up for the team

Tapu Lele is the teams Z-move user and setup sweeper and a Psychic resist pokemon is a needing for this team

Zamazenta is teams speed control (maybe changing Ice Fang into Heavy Slam can do the work because It hits Iron Val and Mega Diancie)

What do you think about the team? Is anything need to be change?
    Umbravex
    Umbravex
Maybe I can scarf Lele for much better Kyurem matchup? or am I needing to put Scarf on Hamurott? I don't know
    Pinkacross
    Pinkacross
For Kyurem, potentially Roar Moltres over Moth would be good. Are there any other problematic pokemon?
    Umbravex
    Umbravex
I do that but it still don't work. I think Dhelmise is a bum bc that 70 HP stat don't do anything even if you invested in def or spdef
    Pinkacross

I wouldn't go Serious Nature on Bolt but yea that's the idea. Other options are worth testing as well, but this could be worth a try. Fighting types definitely could get scary though yea.

    We've all done that lol
One: I'm a newer player for OU and I've loved the idea of stall, but this team I made keeps losing (highest I've gotten is 1050)
    https://pokepast.es/e34fbddfbc199fff

Gliscor is for knock off and to help with my ground weakness that comes from two poison types. Issue it that it can't stop steel types (Mainly gambit) and I can't do much to opposing Gliscor
Hydrapple is one of the three regenerator pkmn I have, and is also my phaser. Issue is that I cant beat iron valent

Toxapex is my hazer, and I have no issues with it, also the second

Clefable is meant be my back up anti set up but for some reason cant safely use wish

Pecharunt is anti rapid spin, but I i'm force to tera ghost it infront of Great Tusk 99% of the time

Alomomola is my second wish user and third regenerator, I just took a pre made set, no notes

Thanks for reading this and thanks even more if you can somehow salvage it!
    Pinkacross
    Pinkacross
No Blissey or Dondozo is unusual, but the team doesn't seem too bad. My main concern are special setup breakers like Gholdengo and Darkrai, those seem really tough. You could try a stall sample team! I will say though, this team seems like it could reach 1700/1800 at least, if the highest you've gotten is 1050, the limiting factor is definitely your skill in piloting the team. Practicing more is the key here!
Hey pinkacross, love your vids and thanks for helping the community soon by doing stuff like this!
love your team-fixing videos and I wanna see what you can do to this team of mine
I got 1 game off top 500 with this team before tanking and I feel like it has a lot of potential but I'm having trouble figuring out what to change. The worst matchups for me are:
    - gliscor (mostly just encore it into protect with hawlucha and try to slam whatever switches in with CC)
    - Kyurem (very very strong into my team, I end up either tera steeling my rillaboom then hitting it with low kick, or somehow pivoting into blaziken to just do a crap ton of damge to kyurem and whatever switches in)

I made two versions of this team and I'll explain all the choices below.
    https://pokepast.es/56c16c0a197b01ec
    https://pokepast.es/e1d3950591b91d86

I wanted to try to make blaziken work in OU and I remembered in gen 8 when blaziken was viable at the very end once people figured out the bulky leftovers + protect set, so I decided to try something similar with grassy terrain support from rillaboom for even more healing.

below I break down the set for each of my mons feel free to just ignore the yap and look at the team if you want to.
Overall I'm just wondering what you see I could fix in this team to improve it and really push it over the edge. thanks for your time!

First, rillaboom is here to set grassy terrain and not much else. Tera steel to help for pecharunt, although I end up tera-ing primarina half the time there

There are 4 blaziken sets that I've been running interchangably on the teams, although the flame plate set has been the most successful
    https://pokepast.es/24fdf2719edafd23

With grassy terrain, you can often stay in and burn earthquake users like lando, and with a burn you live a defensive great tusk headlong rush. Every now and then you absolutely mess up a gliscor trying to switch in on a close combat, and you can burn a lot of the walls that tend to stop blaziken like corviknight, pecharunt, dondozo, lando, etc.
With the flame plate, flare blitz does a ton of damage without any setup, and people almost always expect a swords dance turn one so slamming into them with flare blitz is pretty good. The flame plate lets blaziken 2hko dragapult and do 25% to moltres (2hk0 if I knock it off and rocks are up)

Primarina is a great special wall and attacker. Moltres matchup isn't too bad due to the offensive overlap of rillaboom blaziken and hawlucha - moltres struggles to handle all 3, especially when primarina gets a free switch in whenever moltres comes in against those 3.

Hawlucha is just the grassy terrain goat. Encore is massive and a solid amount of my games have been won by getting a single swords dance up and cleaning everything in the endgame. most of the time hawlucha doesn't come in until his walls are chipped, so I swapped tera flying for tera ground to absolutely fry raging bolt.

Iron Treads/Garchomp: Ground type hazard setter. Garchomp also helps me punish contact VERY well, while iron treads gives me more knock off users. the hazard control is also nice too although I run corv with garchomp

Zapdos/Corviknight: Big pivot birds. Corviknight also does some hazard removal too I guess. both are tera dragon to save my soul in the wellspring matchup.
    Pinkacross
    Pinkacross
Interesting team! On the Garchomp version, you may want to try SpDef Corviknigth with Leftovers. This helps a lot with Kyurem, and it gives you a nice split of one physical wall and one special wall (unless you count offensive AV Prim which I guess kinda counts). Lack of immediate power worries me a bit, there doesn't seem to be a real breaker here. I mostly wonder if you really need Terrain Extender on Rillaboom. I'd give Choice Band a try and see how much you really miss the constant terrain.
    IamNotInPain
    IamNotInPain
I ended up using the zapdos treads team and swapping out zapdos for a choice specs iron crown bc you said I need immidiate power and it's been working great! really helps against kyurem too. I swapped the corv to spdef and gave rillaboom a choice band on the garchomp version but I haven't tried it out yet.
    Hey Pinkacross,

I'm quite new at competitive pokemon, and even more when it comes to building.
    I made a Hydreigon team inspired by Storm Zone's one : https://pokepast.es/5c7ce47843a0e6d8

I started with Hydreigon and IronMoth because of great defensive synergies and wish Alo for longevity.
I lack priority but Moth's booster, Ogerpon's Tera and Zapdos' paras seem to do the trick. Encore and substitute also help a lot againts clap and sucker.

I don't know how my luck went the right way but I've reached my best Elo multiple times with it (in de 500s).
When I start playing something else my Elo drops ... Don't know, i might be onto something ?
I'm not strong enough to bring it to high Elo though.

I would very much appreciate a feedback and/or a piece of advice from you.
I realy enjoy the team and would like to give it its best shot.

Congrats for your good work !
It's not that easy to find content creators that actualy theaches you stuff.

My pleasure! LMK how it goes
    Le_Q_94
    This is funny actually !

I watched your breaking core and balance building videos a second time and I did two things you specifically did say not to do.
Booster moth on balance and favorite mon + good type synergies
I watched it because I realized that heatran or not, the team can not break. Heatran helps (at the cost of beeing weak to fighting which led me to try sinistcha) but still, it does not break.

But I'm hooked man, building bad team after bad team, trying to get a feel for the game.
When I work myself to the 600 I'll show you my successful team

    For the time beeing, salute
    Pinkacross
    Pinkacross
Building tons of bad teams is a necessary step to building good teams! You've got this! :D
Hey Pinkacross, idk if you remember but like a month ago I sent you an Ogerpon team, but recently I made it better with a simple change of Primarina > Samurott Hisui and it feels like this team went from mid to god tier. Since Prima is pretty versatile, I have a version with whirlpool + sub and also one with av but I’ll send you the whirlpool one cuz it’s fun. I’m wondering what you think abt the team now in rating and looks and if you think I can get to 1600s with it if I tried, thanks in advance https://pokepast.es/4ece1de0cac01edd
    Pinkacross
    Pinkacross
Looks quite good! Nice stallbreaking core, lots to help in more offensive matchups, solid defensive core... my only real concern is lack of priority, which may make some HO teams scary. I'd say 1600s is DEFINITELY achievable with this team, the limiting factor will be playing. Keep an eye on the Hyper Offense matchup and see how that goes!
    Ominous Void
    Ominous Void
    Tysm Pinka !
yo, this team is by lax and he said that it's one of his worst teams ever made in sv: https://pokepast.es/7b7ee84eadd7e304
i really liked the idea of a trade HO however and am curious to see what changes you'd make to it
    Pinkacross
    Pinkacross
Seems cool! I like the Cornerstone idea, personally I'd also include a Metal Burst Kingambit, it would go very well with the gimmick. As far as viability goes though, I'm not a huge fan of the concept, trading based teams are kind of inherently inconsistent. In particular this team is SUPER weak to entry hazards, taunt lead + offensive pressure is sometimes going to be enough but other times not so much... the team not having any hazards of its own is also really rough. The concept is fun for sure though, I like the Dbond Ival... I'll probably test something like this out on a livestream and see if anything works!
    Pinkacross
    Pinkacross
If I was just trying to fix this particular team, I'd probably try to fit in a Tusk somewhere for SR + spin, but that would kind of ruin the essence of the team I suppose
    mmtaccos

Hey pinkacross, im new to pokemon in general summary, love the channel.

My team is built around Dragapult as my opener. I bring it in three to four times a game and often get full health kills thanks to Draco Meteor nothing unscarrfed outspeeds it. Tera Dragon gives me the ability to threaten everything except fairy types, tera dragon makes draco deadly at .33 attack sometimes.
I run U-turn on Choice Specs so I can pivot out if I’m locked into the wrong matchup early.

My Great Task is maxed in speed and attack, primarily handling ground and fighting type threats, with Ice Spinner for Gliscor and the occasional dragon. Tusk does his normal job, spin gives me stealth rock removal.

Despite trying to cut Gliscor multiple times, it’s proven too valuable to drop, I get a ton of kills off poison and stalling.

King Gambit and Ogerpon both serve as my primary sweepers. Gambit can clean up the end of a game with 3 sucker punches. I switched from Black Glasses to Leftovers on King Gambit for better sustainability.

Ogrepon can sweep hard with ivy cudgel and Horn Leach healing, even a single setup turn has won me games.

I’m currently running Moltres for defensive bulk and Will-O-Wisp utility, but I’m considering replacing it. My broader concerns are that the team lacks hazard pressure and only has one reliable priority move—both gaps I’m looking to address. But im sure my team has tons of weaknesses, im pretty new overall.

Doesn't look too bad! I'd suggest adding Stealth Rock though, this is a REALLY good move that very few teams want to go without. I'd suggest adding it to Great Tusk over Close Combat. You could also add it to Gliscor. I'd suggest making Gliscor a U-turn set, probably over Knock Off or Earthquake! I'd also recommend trying out U-turn on Wellspring and removing Swords Dance, and going Power Whip over Horn Leech, this will help give your dragapult more entry opportunities! Lastly, I'd go Black Glasses on Kingambit to help with the stall matchup, and max speed instead of max HP. This does make your matchup into opposing Wellspring a bit scarier though, that's an issue to keep your eye on and see if it becomes too much, but I'd go Tera Dragon on Gliscor. Hope this helps, lmk how it goes!
    Hi Professor Pinkacross,

Big fan of the videos, I feel like I've become a better teambuilder by watching them. I made a ogerpon-c balance team that I feel good, but I feel like it has speed and immediate power issues, any suggestions? Thanks!

    Pinkacross
    Pinkacross
You might want to try CB Dragonite here! That would give you more immediate power and indirectly help with the speed problem, by giving you a stronger priority mon!
Hi Pinka! I made a Gen 8 OU team which I thought was pretty solid. I'm unfamiliar with the meta, and I also don't know the common threats that could destroy my team so I'd love a quick team scan by you. Thanks!

Hey pinkacross how are you im doing a trios tournament soon and would like your opinion on this team https://pokepast.es/1272001b6152a0f6 and if there are improvements and tera improvements please let me know! Thanks.

Honestly this looks pretty good! You might want to consider a pivoting set on torn, but Nasty Plot seems nice as well. Also you're missing 4 EVs on Pecharunt
Hello, below is a Rhyperior team that me, sockzz and colton worked on in the discord. I sent the loaded dice lightning rod team because this one seemed very funny to me, especially against raging bolt. Is there anything we should change? What are your thoughts on it?

This seems cool! I love the creativity, and this Rhyperior could definitely mess some people up. I'd say Leftovers + Stone Edge is worth testing as well, but Loaded Dice may be optimal. My main concern is just that I doubt Rhyperior is good enough as a sweeper to justify a slot here. When stuff like Ogerpon Wellspring exists... But it is fun!
    Hello Professor Pinkacross,

My name is Daxdleader, and I'm in your teambuilding 201 class. Normally, when writing to professors, I'd say something about the weather to like acknowledge that they're a person and not just a tool that grades my papers. Unfortunately, I have no idea what the weather is like for you because idk where you live. The weather in my city is lovely today.

I have this Rillaboom Garganacl BO that has been kinda sucking for me, but I don't understand why. I lost to DD Espeed Ice Spinner Roost Dragonite. I lost to a mono bug team. I'm going insane.
    https://pokepast.es/664e34fde5723b49
I have a really hard time getting/keeping rocks up. Also, while I haven't really been losing to ground types or ground coverage, I feel like I can't add a Ground immunity without being too weak to other things.
I also tried to restart and ended up with this wip, but it still looks really sketchy.
    https://pokepast.es/fca5be0a7351c637

So my question is, is the core of Rillaboom + Garg just not viable? I feel like I went wrong really early in the building process. Is that true?

    Thanks,

    Daxdleader
    Daxdleader

Happy to report I put rocks on Heatran, made Garg curse, and changed the Glowking to toxic + future sight over tspikes and psynoise and these changes have dramatically improved my winrate. Still happy to take feedback though.

    Pinkacross
Glad to hear it's going better! Rilla Garg is definitely a solid core, Garg is great at setting up Stealth Rock and keeping it on the field, which is great for Rilla, and Grassy Terrain is nice for Garg. The main issue with the team seems to be the complete lack of speed, counting fully on Grassy Glide is going to make certain sweepers and breakers that resist Grassy Glide VERY difficult.
Hey pink. i made this sun team and ive been having alot of fun with it, do you think its decent or should i scrap it?
Hey Pink! Made this team that works around Specs Valiant.
It does fairly well its a certified mid-ladder demon, breaks nicely, but speed control is a bit of an issue, especially against Banded Oger and Zamazenta. Any tips?
    https://pokepast.es/dcf7c23169ccc566
    Pinkacross

For Banded Oger, Leftovers on Kingambit and a more defensive set would help. It's a power trade-off for sure, and Oger-Grass isn't super common, but that's the fastest fix for that. As for Zama, I think your team can handle it most of the time, but one possible answer is going with a Tera type like Fairy / Bug / Ghost on Raging Bolt. Probably Ghost is best of all. You can even run Discharge over Thunderbolt, I like that on Leftovers sets. If these two pokemon prove to be too big of an issue, Pecharunt over Rbolt is a possibility. I'd definitely go Aqua Jet on Hrott in that case though, that change makes Iron Moth scary.

The main issue here is that this team is horrifically weak to hazards. If Stealth Rock goes up, or Spikes, it's going to be extremely difficult to win. You definitely need solid removal if you're using non HDB Dragonite. I question the viability of Scarf Dragonite in general, but if you're set on trying to make that work, I'd make sure you fit in a Great Tusk or Iron Treads here. I'd also suggest a defensive core of some sort, Scarf Dragonite is going to be very easy to take advantage of and you'll need to switch it out a lot. Your current team has no defensive core and thus hates switching. Pairing Multiscale with Sand is also not ideal.
