The manga is at chapter 392, and the last non-filler episode (~227) of the anime was the equivalent of chapter ~320. Filler = eps that never took place in the manga. As such, main characters cannot grow (or die) and the story just stagnates.

Yes and no. I watched up until the bounto saga (I can't stand filler), and then I switched to readin the manga. Fyi, the manga for Naruto/Bleach/One Piece/etc. is like 100 chapters ahead of the anime.
