Celebi - [ Help! ]

I really needed a defensive grass type in my team that can learn stealth rock, and Celebi fit the job perfectly. However, I have been having a lot of trouble coming up with a set. It needs a powerful grass attack do deal with my Swamper weakness, the move Stealth Rock, and a way to deal with Pursuit. Here's what I came up with. It could really use some help from some of you more experienced players.

Celebi w/ Leftovers
Nature: Bold [ +Def, -Atk ]
EV's: 252HP/200Def/58Sp.Def
Ability: Natural Cure
- Stealth Rock
- Grass Knot
- ???
- Leech Seed

Please help!

I really don't know much about Celebi. D:

Any suggestions are wanted.

Leech Seed or Recover is a must. Celebi can hang around for a long time, and both have advantages.

Leech Seed allows you to beat Blissey one on one (provided you have 101 HP subs) while Recover allows Celebi to come in more often. HP fighting is a waste of a move, as Grass Knot does more to Tyranitar anyways.

Thanks for the suggestion.

Would Thunder Wave be a good option over HP Fighting?

U-Turn does not, I know this for sure. I've never used pursuit on a baton passer before (or had been pursuited whilst baton passing)

Reflect seems ideal for the last spot. Helps against pursuit and your team and well reflect celebi is hard to take down :o

If you have a substitute up when you switch out, you don't get hit by pursuit... the sub breaks though. It already disappears when you switch out anyways. This is another reason why I reccomend Substitute.

**Baton Pass still makes you take half damage from Pursuit... but ONLY IF YOU ARE SLOWER. Don't try this on Tyranitar.**

I second this.

This is not true.

Ah, well there you go. Use Baton Pass. U-Turning against only pursuiters faster than base 100 speed Celebi doesn't seem like it'd be that much fun.

Yes b/c Weavile could just Ice Punch you, if it knows you will be slower and take the hit b/4 using Baton Pass (as the game drags on the foe w/ Weavile would know Celebi's moveset).

I recommend Recover over Leech Seed. Leech seed is Unreliable vs other Grass types (which are also resistant to Grass Knot), and it's recovery depends on the foe's HP.

Recover can always be an instant 50%.

One thing U-turn has over Baton Pass is not being Taunted.

(Tyranitar with max speed/Jolly nature outspeeds nutral Celebi).

It can have:

Pursuit
Taunt
Stone Edge/Filler
EQ/Filler

You cannot use Baton Pass before taunt and, when you try and switch, you get STAB Pursuited in the face.

Well, in that situation you're screwed either way. At least with Baton Pass it gives you another option.

I think Recover would be more useful than Leech Seed because if you are wanting to recover to take a Pursuit, it might be more efficient to do it quickly at one time rather than increments that may not come as fast as they are needed.

because you would predict/guess if they're going to ice punch/pursuit and switch/uturn ._.

You should use this; http://www.smogon.com/forums/showthread.php?t=36399&page=80

It's a simple question.

That last slot needs Recover. Suprisngly, I did not read anyone ordering you to put Recover in the last slot, however, I am.

With your EVs, you don't need 200 defense, use 176 EVs in defense. Then add 16 EVs to get to 240 speed. With the rest in SDef. Obviously keeping max HP, though, you could use 240 EVs in HP to get 401 HP, though, 404 is prefered.

LSTORM
Reflect
Srock
Recover

Use each move (Except Recover) once, and then switch out. Reflect covers Pursuit.

Leaf Storm covers Taunt-Tar. (about 66% damage, and then 33% after the Sp. attack drop), which means it will survive 2 hits if it has leftovers, but most likely it will switch out before dieing.

Using it as a lead may be difficult (with Weavile, Salamence's Fire Blast, etc. also being common leads), because of other threats, but try the Ev Spread Taylor gave you. It helps to be defensive.

If needed, drop some Def. evs and put them into Special Defense b/c it has Reflect anyways.

T-wave can be used better on many more pokemon...

Reflect provides a better alternative as it gives his team defense (in a mostly Physical Offense Metagame), and Thunder wave temps you to stay in longer, hoping for a switch, which is rather contradictory as Srock/Leaf storm promote Celebi switching out after their 1-turn use.

T-wave can go on so many more things.

I really don't suggest stealth rock on Celebi. You'll find that you'll need recover or another attacking move. I personally like this set if you must use Stealth Rock.

EVs: 252hp, 220pD, 36Spd
Calm Mind
Psychic
Recover
Stealth Rock/Baton Pass

I've tested this special defense lately and it seems ideal for calm mind and survivability. Though you choose what you want.
