Welcome to Battling 101! If you're seeking a tutor for SV OU, you are in the right place. Please read all the rules carefully and fill out every part of the application.

RULES

  • You must be able to access Discord, or whatever your tutor wants as the primary form of communication.
  • You must be willing to use Pokemon Showdown! even if you are being tutored in a cartridge format such as Battle Spot or VGC.
  • You, the tutee, should have at least 15 posts before signing up AND your account's age should be a minimum of at least 1 month old before signing up.
    • This is not a strict requirement meaning you may still be paired without satisfying it, so no matter what, DO NOT spam post elsewhere in the forum. That is an infractable offense and we do not encourage such behavior from potential Tutees.
  • You must have battled competitively for a decent amount in at least ONE of the Smogon tiers or Battle Spot / VGC to sign up. Playing 10 or so matches on the PS! ladder is not substantial enough, ~70 or so is more reasonable. This experience does not need to be for the format you sign-up for; this is just to weed out people who have never played competitively that can improve themselves simply by using resources already available to them without needing a tutor to hold their hand.
  • You, the tutee, are responsible for setting up times with your tutor. When you receive the Smogon notification informing you of the pairing, please take the initiative and post on their VM wall first. Continued scheduling and communication is key to a successful pairing!
  • Use the Tutee Talk forum to complain about your tutor (or praise them if they're doing a good job). These are no longer mandatory, but if your tutor is ridiculously inactive or is a complete jackass, COMPLAIN HERE. Nobody can see your tutee talk posts except for you and the Battling 101 Staff; everything is confidential.
  • Signups older than 4 months or 1 month since last login will be considered inactive. These will be moved to the Inactive Posts thread, and can be returned back to this thread by request.
  • Tutors can and will drop you if sessions go badly, and significant violations may result in a ban from B101. Be active, be enthusiastic, be respectful. Make the best of your time together!

Tell us a little about your experience in competitive Pokemon (min. 3 sentences): I started playing competitively in early XY and spammed Baton Pass on the ladder. I was pretty skilled I guess. I then got more involved with Smogon and started to play in various tournaments like UUPL and later on Snake and SPL. I could use a bit more practice in this tier though, so I'm looking to get help

Tell us a little about your experience in competitive Pokemon (min. 3 sentences): I do not have a lot of messages on the forum as I am mostly a lurker and enjoy reading. I only started competitively playing in Gen 9 OU in 2024 and I am currently hovering around1400. I have enjoyed it a lot and am looking to get better. I am comfortable playing HO but would like to get some guidance on balanced or otherwise more defensive teams and overall battling. I am also interested in team building and want to mostly use my own teams.

Usual Hours of Availability: I work 9 to 5 usually M-F, but I'm remote so as long as I don't have a meeting heavy day I can usually make time. Generally available after 7 PM most days. I'm currently away for vacation so the earliest I can be available is 1/4.
Tell us a little about your experience in competitive Pokemon (min. 3 sentences): I've been playing competitively pretty casually since DPP OU and while I've been OK at battling, I struggle a lot with team building and playing consistently well. However, I haven't really tried too hard to get better since I was a kid. As of recent, I've had a bit of trouble laddering in SV OU and would like to develop fundamentals to get to the 1700s on the ladder in OU and then hopefully take those skills to other metagames as well. I'd eventually like to relearn Gen 4, Gen 6 and 7 as those have been my favorites to ladder in, but I feel like this would be a good starting point.
Are you able to use Discord?: Yes, and can probably mic up too (would have to set it up though).

Tell us a little about your experience in competitive Pokemon (min. 3 sentences): I've been to around 1500 Elo, but normally sit around 1400. I've been played everyone once in a while for years as a kid but only recently discovered how to actually play. I only really do well with RMT teams or Samples, and would like to learn how to build on my own.

I've been playing competitive mons since the start of SS but started seriously getting into tournaments this year. I'm decent at SV OU, going 6-2 in the recent OUFL. I can play with most teams, but I struggle with maintaining consistency on high ladder. I'd also like help with teambuilding, as I find it really difficult.

Tell us a little about your experience in competitive Pokemon (min. 3 sentences):I want to improve in the tier, I play ladder frequently, always picking between 1800-2000. I'm not that good at teambuilding so this is one of the main topics I want to work with my tutor. My best result at SV OU tours is a 2-0 at Teamballo.

Usual Hours of Availability: My availability varies depending on classes, club activities, homework and exams, but I’m usually free after 6:00-12:00 PM during the week and available anytime on weekends.
Tell us a little about your experience in competitive Pokémon (min. 3 sentences): I first started playing Pokémon Showdown in August and have been playing on and off. Lately, I’ve really been enjoying OU and have peaked in the 1700s on the ladder. I primarily play stall and semi-stall, but I feel like I’ve hit a plateau skill-wise. I’d like to improve my team building skills, identifying mid-ground plays, and proper positioning/long term game strategy. Also, I’d like to learn other play styles like balance or bulky offense.
Are you able to use Discord?: Yes, it’s my preferred communication method since I only lurk on the forums. My Discord is Pinkstork.

edit: I've recently peaked at 1926

Usual Hours of Availability: As I am currently an online student, I am available most times during both the week and the weekend. I am able to work around other’s schedules easily, if need be.
Tell us a little about your experience in competitive Pokemon (min. 3 sentences): I’ve dabbled here and there in competitive Pokemon for quite some time. I watch a lot of competitive content and aim to improve myself anyway I can. I’ve played a lot of Random Battles and a bit of OU (mostly during previous gens, but I’ve played a little of SV OU as well), but I’m still quite green at the game in general. I’ve only recently begun to take getting better at Pokemon bit more seriously. I am extremely hard on myself as a player, so I am very open to feedback and criticism to work towards improving. I think the biggest aspects I want to better myself at are teambuilding and understanding how my choices affect the game state in later turns.
Are you able to use Discord?: Yes, and if anything, I prefer it.

(I know I am slightly under the 15 post requirement, but I hope that's not too big of an issue.)

Tell us a little about your experience in competitive Pokemon (min. 3 sentences): I don't have a lot of experience overall. I played a bit of stadium singles on cartridge but got destroyed, and then I found showdown and played some SV OU. I'm now in the ADPL (undrafted roulette, but still in!), and want to mainly learn how to make good teams and how to play against other types of teams well.

Experience: Have been playing Showdown on and off pretty casually since SM OU. I have always had good knowledge, but never was involved in the community much. In the past few months I have been looking to get into more serious laddering and tournaments. I find myself usually around 1600-1700 on the ladder and am looking to really try and take it to the next level. I have struggled a bit to improve and find myself not really being fully locked into my more serious tournament matches, which does not allow me to plan for any sort of mid or endgame plans, and makes for as well a lot more carelessly thrown games than I would enjoy. This is something I would like to improve.

I've been playing CAP for a long while now and done well. mostly in past gens (SM/SS). I've played other tiers like OU more casually and am getting more involved in ND now, but definitely feel like I've plateaued as a player more than ever. I've tried taking steps on my own- laddering more, reviewing replays, etc- but haven't felt like I've gotten any better, so I'd love some assistance in getting better both in the builder and in-game planning/decisionmaking. (Tips about dealing with pressure, be it "high" ladder stuff or tournament games, would be huge as well)

I've been playing pokemon showdown since Gen 5, when this new gen came up I tried to adapt the first time actually got some good records and when the OLT started this gen in specific I got to 1700-1800 unfortunately couldn't qualify, I literally dropped this gen after wcup 2022 when it was the last time playing full current gen I went 1-1 with team Venezuela, I'm getting again this gen and would like to improve my builds and gameplan since OLT is coming again and I don't wanna miss it. Also to help me with other tours would definitely be a big plus getting better this tier

Although participating within the competitive scene of Pokémon is not entirely foreign to me, there are still many things I would like to understand about each tier, SV's in particular, for the most part. My aims are to become more efficient with teambuilding, interpreting metagames, in addition to performing at an overall higher level. Additionally, I'd like to shift my mindset toward the game as well if possible.

Tell us a little about your competitive pokemon history: I started playing PS! for Gen 2 OU and my elo stood around 1100. Out of rage, I decided to jump to other generations (my most successful one was Gen 6 with 1250 but then I underperformed and got to 1100 again) and then tournaments. It's safe to say I sucked at them. I only joined two and at both of them, I lost against the first opponent two rounds in and my second opponent called act on me. Because of this, I gained an excessive amount of doubt, carelessness and rudeness (go up a few lines and you'll see proof) against everything PS! related. In fact, before writing this signup post, I punched my roomates balls because he dared to show me a video.
