OU DPP OU Teambuilding Competition

The votes are in; and in a strange turn of affairs, the winner of their own theme, the agility teambuilding competition, was YouMeAndRNG! A three way tie between them, Lady Bug, and Jeong was broken due to the laters removal of vote and submission.

Since it is an even numbered competition, the next theme can be any pokemon with no restrictions, and will be chosen by YouMeAndRNG as a reward for winning the last competition. If they don’t want to choose, or don’t choose by 12/05/25, then I’ll post a theme by 13/05/25 (GMT).
Once it's announced you win the competition, comment your choice in a new post with the new theme at the top of the message.

There are some rules as to what you are able to pick.
- For every odd teambuilding competition, you can pick any pokemon from the top 30 of the VR (link).
- For every even teambuilding competition, you can pick anything you want with no restrictions.

These rules are in place to ensure that we don’t get too many difficult mons to build with in a row, which has caused inactivity in the past.

You can also choose a set or a theme to build with instead of a pokemon. E.g., Build with banded tyranitar, or build with water spam. You can choose more difficult themes if you wish, but please exercise discretion.

Once picked, your choice can't be changed, so bear that in mind.

With the freedom offered by an even numbered competition, YouMeAndRNG has chosen a new theme!
Your teams must include a Pokemon, (magnezaone and metagross excluded), whose name starts with the letter M! (For example, a team involving mespirit is allowed).

Since this theme has been submitted later than normal, I'm extending the deadline to Saturday the 17th of May, at 11:00 pm GMT.

As usual, the winner of this competition gets to choose the next theme.

Happy building :)

The theme is the letter M, so I chose a marvelous Pokemon named MAROWAK!

:Zapdos: :Celebi: :Starmie: :Jirachi: :Marowak: :Tyranitar:
https://pokepast.es/a6ca09ebc0b87b2b

:Marowak:
The team's focus is to provide paralysis support so Marowak (and Tyranitar) can mow down the opponent. While paralysis helps Marowak with its miserable speed, the speed EVs allow Marowak to outspeed Choice Band Swampert that can't be paralyzed. The rest is to maximize Marowak's Attack and HP. Some issues Marowak faces is Starmie and Celebi with their Natural Cure. Defensive Starmie straight up OHKOs Marowak with Surf, and Utility Celebi can survive a +2 Fire Punch from Marowak without entry hazards, so make sure you have Stealth Rocks up and Tyranitar to murder with them. Keep in mind that Marowak is fairly light so Grass Knot's Base Power is only 60. I decided on Double-Edge since it's more reliable than Stone Edge for accuracy and can still KO crucial Pokemon that are immune or resist Earthquake. Fire Punch allows Marowak to OHKO Skarmory after Stealth Rocks and any other Grass-types. Defensive Rotom-A tanks a +2 Fire Punch and can hit back with Will-O-Wisp, so be extra careful.

:mesprit: :lucario: :magnezone: :tyranitar: :bronzong: :latias:

I made this forever ago in a fugue-like state. Is it good? Probably not. It wasn't the most consistent team. It looks cool, though, and lead Mesprit scores you lots of aura points or whatever the kids say these days.

There is logic behind this janky mess, surprisingly. I was attempting to greed really hard around Lucario instead of doing the smarter thing which is to go for a more divide-and-conquer approach (where you accept that it will have hard matchups instead of trying to oversupport it). Lucario hates fast stuff that resists its priority, so scarf Magnezone is there to paralyze fast fire punch/CM Jirachis (and reverse trap other scarf Mags I guess), Tyranitar traps too many things to list which helps Lucario, OTR Bronzong and Lucario share checks like Zapdos/Gyarados/Rotom/etc which they can trade with to help out the other, etc. You're sort of left with an annoying puzzle of how to cover the rest of the metagame after greeding out 4 slots, and Mesprit and +1 Gyara ice fang bulk specs Latias was the best attempt to figure that out I could make.

Mesprit sets rocks, u-turns Lucario and Ttar in on targets like opposing Ttar (for Lucario), Heatran, Clefable, etc, while giving you some buffer against Gyarados and Dragonite sets---all while helping vs. Breloom without being weak to rocks. There isn't really anything that offers that compression of roles, and to be honest it's surprisingly decent.

:Uxie::Magneton::Mamoswine::Tyranitar::Gengar::Gyarados:
For letter M I chose Mamoswine. :Uxie: lead for rocks and twave but a bit more longevity as opposed to zelf. It also can be a check to loom in a pinch if you need it. :Magneton: because you obviously want a magnet if youre using mamoswine, a (almost) guaranteed para on rachi is also amazing for mamo. :Mamoswine: can be pretty threatening behind a sub. Its basically a faster, slightly weaker rhyperior with priority but also a non-stab stone edge. :Tyranitar: because its ttar. stone edge cause i want a way to actually hit zapdos but could maybe be something else. spread lives 2 specs lati draco's after sr and a spike since specs lati can have a field day vs this. chople cause gar can be annoying. :gengar: just plopped this on here for a loom check tbh. taunt to annoy fatter stuff and dbond just cause i figured that this teams defensive backbone is weak enough that dbond could maybe come in handy. could maybe be a lum superachi or something else. :Gyarados: is a grass natural gift set because of the support it can also give mamo. it allows it to heavily chip or ko bulky waters i.e cune, pert, milo that mamo does not want around. although eq might be required because without it, this team gets basically 6-0d by agiligross.

The team obviously isnt great as for reasons I already mentioned. Its pretty weak defensively and asks way too much of magneton for anti offense stuff. but i think its really fun to play with.

:azelf: :gyarados: :jirachi: :latias: :heatran: :machoke:

So yeah machoke is definitively much much weaker than machamp. Regardless it still has the potential to bs through all its checks, which are pretty much everything with an attack/spa stat.
Im not a very lucky person so trying to get the haxy wins was very hard, specially vs low ladder (they will use weird defensive mons that are very hard to break).
Still i dont think the team is too bad, but its not something id recommend for laddering. Got 27-10 so not great.

Could roll in with a milo team, but that’s a bit too tame. So I figured, why not up the ante a little bit?

https://pokepast.es/3cd50a41f648a985
:mesprit: :marowak: :miltank: :muk: :magneton: :mismagius:

The concept is a paraspam with healing wish support, that would be Mesprit's niche pretty much imo (jirachi's better in this role too but you'd want to be using a different rachi set usually). Ice Beam is probably better over healing wish to alleviate loom problems, it’s a bad habit of mine to take the unique advantages cuz why use mesprit specifically otherwise?
Marowak acts as the breaker akin to how rhyperior is used in paraspams, but obv it's a lot more frail. It is also one of the ways to combat rt rotom which is otherwise difficult for the team, if I manage to paralyze it / force it to rest and then sub on it.
Miltank is fitted a spdef set to combat rt rotom and generating avenue for marowak. It actually takes advantage of Scrappy which makes seismic toss go through and pressure rotom while heal bell shrugs off burns and can generally combat rotom decently well with its own twave and healing.
Unfortunately metagross is not available, so Muk is my next pick. It can answer breloom, a huge threat to the team once spore is accounted for, and its high spdef allows it to go into heatran or pivot into draco meteor if necessary (milotic is much better in this role but struggles against breloom), but it also provides a clef switch-in thanks to Sticky Hold and threaten back with explosion. Brick Break also hits clef and more importantly lets it answer heatran or at least get it low enough for a trap, while pain split allows it to keep up throughout a battle and act as an anchor better.
Magneton paves way for marowak by removing skarmory, forcing paralysis on rachi (and doesn't mind taking it in return as much thanks to heal bell!) while providing much needed insurance vs dders and faster threats like starmie, infernape and gliscor. It's just a wonderful mon that can potentially do many things at once.
Finally Mismagius is added here to not be overly reliant on Marowak for breakage, it can land an unexpected trick on clef and goes into fighting moves which are otherwise very threatening for the team. Also spinblocks in a pinch. Unfortunately unlike gengar it doesn't get focus blast but you wouldn't wanna be using that with specs anyways probably.

hey this looks like I just put these together randomly but it works!

https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen4ou-2360274707 (This one I lost but it demonstrates the team well)

Wow after all this I just realized I got ninja'd by lady bug. Props :( (still check out my team though)

Edit: Gave an appropriate name to the team bc there’s also a theme of “evil” sorta going on between miltank, marowak and mismagius
Edit 2: After deliberation, I think that a competitively-minded team cannot have such a flimsy plan against breloom, something you see maybe every 3-4 games. The team originally had a milo in it but muk answers breloom a lot more consistently and is still a decent switch-in to heatran due to great spdef.

:suicune: :jirachi: :medicham: :tyranitar: :gyarados: :latias:

weird ahh team. Medicham flings the Fist Plate into Rotom so Gyara can clean up without needing Wacan. Fat ass Tyranitar to soak up Latias and Zapdos and get up rocks, taunt Custap is coolio so Ttar isn't setup bait. Edit: changed Taunt to Superpower after laddering it for a bit, still think that it has its uses tho. Calm Mind Jirachi with Draco and HP Fire to lure both Latias / Skarmory for Medicham. Suicune lead baits in stuff Ttar can get up rocks against. + breaks holes for Jirachi. Double Lum because no ground type + Loom is desasterclass threat with this Ttar and Gyara. Latias so it's not insta joever against Gyara etc. Not much else to say, probably loses against any reasonable team but HJK is dopamine maxxing.
Results on ladder:

Once voting concludes and the winner is announced, they will choose the theme for the next competition.

My, my! So many teams to choose!

Ummmmmmm.... Bygone's team. Nice to see Medicham in OU since ADV. (Could be a potential OU mon, sorry Hariyama)

Team 11.

rackham i think is best but WTF IS FIRE BLAST DOING ON A DD SET WHEN YOU HAVE MAGNEZONE

the milo teams are both nice but underestimate breloom
medicham i dont see the point of considering other mons with CC outdamage it
the mono Ms are cute but i dont wanna vote for them
planet and robert i think will struggle with bronzong since they opted for magneton over magnezone (you have iron ball bronzong but that in and of itself id need to see to believe since youre just shitagross until the trick goes off)
machoke and marowak im just not a fan of sorry
dk is i think the most underrated team here, i prefer rackham but if i couldnt vote them id go with dk
