Resource DPP Simple Questions, Simple Answers Thread

In Gen 4 there is a glitch with Rage and Transform that allows you to use any moveset. And yeah because of Mimic this does mean any Pokemon you bring can have almost any moveset, which would be busted.
However, using this glitch you can give Pokemon certain egg moves they otherwise can’t have, like Head Smash Probopass and Volt Tackle Electivire.
Why can’t we use those moves when you can technically get them without hacking and only using the Transform glitch movesets on an entirely different Pokemon?
These move are obtainable only with glitches. Why would they be different from any other move that's obtainable only with glitches? I know this is irrelevant to the gen 4 thread, but do you have any opinions on gen 1 OU not allowing tradeback moves?
I'm not sure if it's a bug or not, but in the Forum Dex they recommend in other options Mirror Coat in their SpD set with RSpin.
It's probably just a mistake that got past QC. You can report it in this thread.

My own questions: The best Swampert EV spreads are usually Atk/Spe, HP/Atk, and HP/Def, right? Which moves are usually used with each spread and how do people decide which one to use on their team? Why do defensive Swampert sets prefer relaxed over impish?

To answer the first question, some breed moves are coded into the game but not obtainable through regular means. Like Nosepass getting Head Smash as an egg move but not having any partners that can normally learn it.
This is different from just letting every Pokemon that learns Mimic have Smeargle movepools because that is overriding their movesets. Plus I’m only against mimic glitch movesets because they’d be blatantly overpowered, and less so because they are glitches.
On tradeback movesets for Gen 1, I enjoy the fact that there is a format for tradeback movesets, though wonder why that isn’t the norm.
Maybe glitch moves could be its own format for Gen 4. Would be interesting to see what changes would be made to the metagame and what rules would be put in place for it.

It depends on the team. Knowing this, it more or less takes shape. For example, the typical team with Roserade and Heatran. I guess the best set here would be the tank with Protect or Roar to abuse SR, Spikes/TSpikes. Then on teams with things like gross, Rotom, specs/scarf latias, lucario, rachi... I think the physical or even special offensive can fit well.

Good question. I've always been more guided by the Relaxed nature over Impish. The only difference is Ice Beam vs Gliscor or loom which is the best option over IPunch. Otherwise, I don't see any differences vs nite or flygon. And if you want higher damage vs latias, better IPunch over IBeam.

So you're saying the physically defensive sets are more likely to run stealth rock, protect, or roar, and the offensive sets are more likely to run 3 or 4 attacks?

I don't understand if this is really a doubt you have or if you are trying to test me.

As I said, it depends on the team or the situation. I don't know if they are more prone, but I guess the physical defender may have more options to get SR's in and take more hits. And depending on that, you can use Roar if you sense a possible change or Protect vs Rotom scarf / Latias specs or Scarf.

The physical or even special offensive set is scary, because it takes advantage of its ability and can eliminate things that the defensive one can't, like gengar, Rotom, fable or Skarmory. Even with a mixed set (4atk) you can break the core ttar - fable - nest with little effort. By the way, I once used the special offensive full speed with EBelt for Adamant loom. It may sound a bit fun, but it's another option.

Does anyone know why the lead Hariyama set runs 164 SpD evs? All the strategy dex entry says is "The EVs are chosen so that Hariyama hits as hard as possible and takes special attacks superbly".

Will the speed tiers ever get updated? I think updated speed tiers would be helpful even if it included only the common 0, 252, and 252+ spreads and the boosts for common dragon dance or choice scarf users.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I think the info was written back when DPP was current & some Azelf leads ran Psychic.

I like to use Hariyama as a status absorber against Rest Rotom & Gengar, Excal has an entire post written on Yama in the DPP discussion thread.

Thanks for the response. I'm definitely gonna check out that Excal post. I've been using the lead set, but I should definitely try it outside of there 'cause it has the potential to be extremely destructive.

Are there also Gen 4 OU Double tournaments that I can register for? If so, where?
I think this is what you are looking for:

I hope I have been helpful.

Question about how pursuit damage is calculated in gen4 when switching out?
In the calculator it shows doubled pursuit doing more than crunch but that shouldnt be the case after gen 3:
Gen 3 formula
Gen 4 formula
In the gen 3 formula there is a separate multiplier called "DoubleDmg" for moves like pursuit and in gen 4 it is combined in the base power multiplier as per bulbapedia, https://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Power

Unsure if this is an issue with just the calc or on ps as well, or if I am missunderstanding something, would love some clarity

With Pokemon Battle Revolution's battle system, there has been the possibility to play with Team Preview in Gen 4. Are there any resources playing by that kind of metagame in Gen 4?

I think I am not forgetting anything.
- Quick claw
- Swagger
- Freeze clause

Also related changes which weren't bans:
- showdown copycat bug
- showdown knock off bug
- showdown RNG generation changes (multiple changes to prevent RNG manipulation on showdown, or make it harder)

Edit: On second thought I'll just post an updated list of changes.
