Pokémon Presents - Pokémon Day 2025 - Pokemon ZA Info & Pokemon Champions Announced

I mean, I am also mostly joking about how speculation can kind of take root based on so little.

That said since you leapt right to the GF are incompetent part of the discussion horseshoe: All they said was it had a buff to attack & defense! I don't think there's any dumb decisions to call out on unless it mysteriously doesn't buff defense beyond like 10 points. And even then at that point my raised eye brow goes towards the people responsible for writing the blurbs.
Come on, when have Pokémon fans ever overthought something based on circumstantial evidence and gotten pissed when it turns out they got things wrong? I mean aside from all the times it happened, it basically never happens. Besides, if it did, the fandom would be smart enough to know by now that flavor text doesn't always mean the maximalist interpretations of said text.

Realistically though, I can imagine that the attack/def buffs would be basically a +25-40 pt buff and maybe an ability like scrappy or whatever they thing fits while also being decently strong. Not all the abilities Megas get are that flashy.

from the nintendo website https://www.nintendo.com/us/store/products/pokemon-legends-z-a-nintendo-switch-2-edition-switch-2/
"Pokémon™ Legends: Z-A – Nintendo Switch™ 2 Edition features improved performance, enhanced resolution, and smoother frame rates—meaning Lumiose City is now more vibrant than ever!"

They are also charging 10 dollars for the upgrade pack, rather than it be a free performance upgrade, so it might run really poorly on the Switch 1. The performance difference between Tears of the Kingdom on Switch 1 vs Switch 2, a game that also has a paid upgrade, is pretty large and notable for comparison. Might also be so they can justify charging 70 dollars for it on Switch 2? Who knows, not like we could get an official answer that isn't PR deflection if we asked TPCi about it.

Also, most of the footage of it has been running on the Switch 2 and all the demos for it are on the Switch 2 as far as I've seen people speculate. The performance of the game in trailers also got a lot better once the Switch 2 was officially announced which doesn't help with the cynicism.

In the US its 59.99 vs 69.99, only a 10 dollar difference, but maybe the diff is larger in other territories.

My cynical view is I think that, regardless of how it might run on S1, Nintendo might be charging for the patch solely because its a "Switch 2 Edition".
All the games that got free upgrades only have a S1 edition, iirc. Z-A is just in the position of seemingly having no other "bonuses" no matter how small (ala the extra save files and Zelda Notes for BOTW & TOTK). It wouldn't surprise me if Metroid Prime 4 is similar.

I do think that it's reasonable to expect SOME sort of notable bulk increase for mega-Hawlucha. The no-selling a Karate Chop after he mega'd seems like a very specific decision, when dodging or countering it were more obvious options. But with lowish base HP, I'd normally expect that bulk increase to be ability-based, and we don't have those*.

*If this was a game with Abilities, I'd be no joke telling people "Calm down, it probably just has Battle Armor"

It wouldn't surprise me if Metroid Prime 4 is similar.
already confirmed when they announced the switch 2 that Metroid Prime 4 has a "Switch 2 Edition" and has an upgrade pack page on their website (without the pricing listed because the release date isn't out yet)
MP4 has a 120fps mode on Switch 2 fwiw. I feel like charging for that kind of performance upgrade is kind of understandable lol.

Pokémon Trading Card Game

The Pokémon Company International have been kind enough to offer us the exclusive official reveal of three of the cards in the upcoming set, Mega Evolution. This set is due out on September 26th 2025 in the US and October 10th in parts of Europe.
The first card is the standard card for Vulpix featuring artwork by Naoyo Kimura
The second card is the standard card for Ninetales featuring artwork by satoma
The third card is the Illustration Rare card of Vulpix featuring artwork by saino misaki

... Mega Ninetales?

We got no teasers today so it seems we won't be getting a new reveal this week

However, while not directly Z-A related, we did get an interesting announcement. Pokémon Unite is going to add some Mega Evolutions to the game:

It could just be Megas we already know since Unite does have quite a lot of mons with XY-era Megas, but Mega Lucario and Mega Charizard X were explictly named and given a release date while the other two were completely unspecified. This leads me to believe these might be brand new Megas that will debut in Z-A

This could mean that the Unite roster could point us towards Pokémon that might get a new Mega in Z-A - the game does already have Dragonite, but also some particularly likely candidates like the Kalos starters, Sylveon, Goodra, Zeraora and Mew

Edit: If they are actually Z-A ones this would also be the first game to reveal their abilities lol

I'm going with the two unrevealed Megas joining the Unite roster being Mega Greninja and Mega Delphox. I can't see the two unrevealed ones being Mega Dragonite, Mega Victreebel, or Mega Hawlucha, since the best way to market even more new Megas that have yet to be revealed is to cross-promote them with Unite, Pokemon Go or other platforms, and since Chesnaught is the only Kalos starter to not be part of the Unite roster, that's why I have landed on Mega Greninja and Mega Delphox.

Again, I wanna remind everyone that outside of the Worlds '25 poster we have seen no sign of Chespin, Fennekin or Froakie in Z-A promo material: Compare this to how often we saw the Sinnoh trio in Arceus trailers. Mega Kalos starters would be just about the most appropriate option for a Big Final Reveal before the game comes out

Who's to say the final two Megas joining the Unite roster won't be the last ones revealed? I guess it's possible they'll be revealed soon, but there's nothing to suggest that they won't be saved for the end either.

I would like to point out that the new megas for Unite were stated to be for Pokémon already in the game. Not brand new ones, so the only valid ones for the 2 missing slots are: Charizard Y, Venusaur, Blastoise, Slowbro, Gengar, Gyarados, Scizor, Tyranitar, Blaziken, Gardevoir, Sableye, Absol, Metagross, Latias, Latios, Garchomp, and Lucario for classic ones and Dragonite is the only newly revealed mega whose base form is already in Unite.
And the only leaked possibilities are Clefable, Delphox, Greninja, and Falinks.
Hawlucha, Victreebel, and most of the leaked megas aren't Pokémon in Unite.

No they didn't.

"Pokémon Legends: Z-A, a new frontier for the Pokémon series, is slated to release October 16, 2025. In it, Mega Evolution will be key to battling.

In Pokémon UNITE, we implemented Unite licenses for Mewtwo that can Mega Evolve into Mega Mewtwo X and Mega Mewtwo Y. Now, we’re planning to add more Unite licenses for Mega-Evolving Pokémon, to celebrate the release of Pokémon Legends: Z-A.

We hope you enjoy the new strategies and fun that Mega Evolution brings to battles.

More details will be announced at a later date."

Is what was said re: Megas in Unite.

also diva, spoilers..

Why are you talking about leaked content without a spoiler tag
Ah, sorry.

Huh, must've been an error on Serebii then.
"It has been confirmed that Pokémon UNITE is to add Mega Evolution to existing Pokémon starting on October 3rd. On October 3rd, Mega Lucario will be added to the game with Mega Charizard X coming three weeks later on October 24th. Following that, two more Mega Evolved Pokémon will be added to the game by the end of 2025. We'll provide more details as they come."

None of Empoleon, Vaporeon, Dhelmise, or Pawmot can Mega though? And that's supposed to be the lineup of new Pokémon coming for this year, you'd think if they were gonna add Hawlucha or another old Pokémon or two they'd have already announced them before the Mega announcement.

I think it's the way Serebii has worded it.

"It has been confirmed that Pokémon UNITE is to add Mega Evolution to existing Pokémon starting on October 3rd" So this refers to the existing Pokémon, Lucario, who is in the game.

Official confirmation, from either the Producer Letter in July, or even TPCI's tweet, don't mention that it's only for existing Pokémon - obvi they give their favourites their big toys, but I think the other 2 are still up in the air as to whether or not they'll be already in the game, or if they're brand new.

In the Producer letter from July they did state that from September we're getting 2 Pokémon per month. A lot of people theorised this would be 1 outright new Pokémon and 1 new Mega, however we only have Pawmot in September and then those 2 in October, so we either have another in the middle / end of September (Of Empoleon, Dhelmise, Vaporeon) then in November we get the remaining 2 of those 3, and then in December we get the remaining 2 megas. Or mix & matched. Who knows.

EDIT: I know this isn’t the Unite thread but just to correct myself, Empoleon is September 19th so that leaves Vaporeon and Dhelmise for November more than likely with the other 2 megas in December.

Unless they do technically 4(?) released in October but I doubt.

Oh, so we DID get Pokémon news for a third straight Thursday after all!… kind of. I didn’t actually know about this until I clicked on this thread, but I had a feeling Yung Dramps would make the connection between Malamar and a certain someone pretty quickly. Maybe even more than Victreebel I think this could (or could have) made for an excellent horror themed reveal, and what we know about Mega Malamar that’s too many Ms to keep track of lol so far reminds me of the anime where Malamar was painted as an antagonistic threat in Kalos, albeit a minor group of them in just two episodes or something.

You think Emma canonically uses her Malamar’s hypnosis as a lie detector for her detective work? I could see it.
