Pokémon Day 2026 - Pokemon Winds and Waves coming 2027!

Supremely disappointed by Feraligatr, both because Dragonize is a bad name and because Feraligatr doesn't get much out of the effect. It already has strong Dragon moves and it doesn't get any interesting Normal moves. I guess if it ends up running defensive sets then Body Slam could be cool for the paralysis but other than that it's basically nothing.

"Serebii Update: New Abilities have been revealed for Mega Evolved Pokémon in Pokémon ChampionsMega Meganium gets a new one called Mega Sol uses moves as if Sunny Day is in effectMega Emboar gets Mold BreakerMega Feraligatr gets Dragonize - Turns Normal-type moves into Dragon-type"

Most obvious benefit with Mega Sol is with Solar Beam and Synthesis (huh, just realized the Chikorita family doesn't get Growth, odd, though with Meganium it would just be a Nasty Plot). Meganium also got Weather Ball in SV so it now has a surprise 100 Power Fire-type Move.

Feraligatr of course gets Thrash so there's your go-to Dragonize Move. Though I guess Slash & Body Slam shouldn't be too overlooked. And of course got Giga Impact to be a Dragon-type nuke.

Odd Emboar didn't get a new Ability, though then again there's plenty of old good Abilities we don't need to make a new one everytime. Mold Breaker may be a bit boring but it's not a useless, though I think Emboar may have prefered Sheer Force. Hm, what would a Signature Ability for Emboar be like though? Maybe one which decreases its Speed but increases Attack & Weight?

fire weatherball on mega meganium is actually 150 bp because sunlight also boosts fire moves by 50%

thrash is too risky in singles because of fairy type immunity, and moves like that are bad in doubles. it is probably sticking with double-edge
dragonize is lame, was really hoping they'd give it regidrago's ability but I guess they want to keep that exclusive

I was hoping it would get Supreme Overlord or like Reckless + Rock Head as a new ability

I just realized how the game is monetized

This is awful

You basically trade having to spent dozens of hours on a single mon to spending potentially hundreds of bucks on one

This will, if anything, only make the game significantly less instead of more accessible

the mega meganium ability is literally an ability that is in like most fangames/hacks with mega meganium in them, lol
if it works the way it is worded that's 2/3 health synthesis, +2 atk/satk growths, instant solar beams, and the fire 100 bp weatherball
That would be amazing if Meganium could learn Growth. I wonder if Game Freak is willing to let that happen now...

Legends Z-A Pokedex said:
This Pokémon can fire a tremendously powerful Solar Beam from its four flowers. Another name for this is Mega Sol Cannon.
Interesting that it turns out this wasn't just flavor text.

M-Meganium ability is so great.

Built-in sunlight means Solar Beam isn't affected by weather, nor is Synthesis health gained affected by other weather conditions. Growth always results in a +2+2 no matter what weather is up and Weather Ball is suddenly a 100 BP Fire Move under all circumstances. Even if external weather was able to override such effects, the fact that all of them work in neutral field with no Sun support is nasty.

Surprised to see new abiltiies; I kind of figured they would have given a new one to the Kalos mega starters.
Pretty neat, though. Does make me think Eternal Floette has a new ability, too.

Although Feraligatr's feels a bit odd. It has like every physical dragon move it could want, even with the extra 20% boost.
Here’s the English trailer;

Ancient Power is back, so that opens the door for removed moves.

Mega Meganium truly won. We waited it out for decades but she won!!!

Also the graphics look fairly good. The models are quite detailed and even the move animations are quite good (for a f2p)
Ancient Power's only absence was, I believe, in base-game Z-A. If it was following on SV as a baseline then even that brief blip wouldn't have mattered.

I feel like the moev animations are about what I'd expect. Just because it ws F2P doesnt meant hey were going to be substantially worse. However yes the texturing/lighting on the models is much improved. Thank goodness, it was absolutely dire before.

the starter known for sheer force shenanigans and having a big jaw is going to be spamming a recoil move (double-edge)

while the guy known for spamming recoil moves loses its recoil boosting ability in favor of breaking the mold, oh boy. boar can ignore unaware, I sure hope the most popular unaware pokemon in both singles and doubles isn't a bulky water type, that would be unfortunate.

they really gotta stop giving mold breaker to megas, this is like what the third one now lol

Small observations
-At first I thought maybe something was odd with the messages, since earlier they showed no SE message for that Decidueye-H, but they showed it later. Combined with still showing the charging message with Mega Sol, I guess there were no updates to the messaging system beyond noting x4 effectiveness. Pray for at least altering how it handles multiple stat ups.
-You got 200 points for winning a match. 200! 200! IT COST 250 TO CHANCE A MOVE
-The move descriptions are more detailed. Dragon Rush states directly it has a 20% flinch chance and always hits minimized opponents (& at doubled power). Outrage also now calls its effect "Rampage", too.
-OK but seriously it cost 250 to change one (1) move. 500 to change nature, 500 to change ability. 5 per EV.
-Item shops are 400 for at least the berries. 2000 (!) per mega stone
-you got 200 per battle?????

Oh my bad for some reason I thought Ancient Power had been removed in SWSH but it wasn’t my mistake.

champions seems to be designed in a way that makes it as unpleasant as possible to play it without also playing all the other pokemon games. it makes sense because they wouldn't want to endanger the reach and sales of the mainline titles, but then like what is the point of champions if it doesn't really even bring in new players? lol

like cool you can grind endlessly on your phone later in the year I guess yippee, but you will be at an insane disadvantage and have to spend a lot of time and or money to not be incredibly underpowered

"You got 200 VP for winning a battle but need to pay 250 VP to buy a single move" is going to be rotating in my head for at least a week

People surprised at the monetization pretty much requiring you to own other pokemon games or whale..

No, really, were you really expecting they'd give VGCers a way to play for free without owning the games? :pika:
Oh I was expecting something close to this (grind battles to buy literally everything), I just thought the values involved might be a little different.
Especially since you can't just buy VP directly.

Mold Breaker isn't a bad ability but that's kinda lame for Mega Emboar.

So Mega Meganium and Mega Feraligatr have new unique abilities huh. Mega Sol and Dragonize. Dragonize is quite clearly a Dragon-type equivalent to the -ate/-ize (Normalize/Aerilate/Pixilate/Refrigerate/Galvanize) abilities and is probably called Dragon Skin in Japanese, turning Normal-type moves into Dragon-type moves. It would've been hella good if Return still existed. But not bad.

Mega Sol on the other hand is quite good for Mega Meganium. Instant 120 BP spammable Solar Beam for STAB and a Synthesis that heals 67% at all times without weather intact. That has a lot of fun potential.

Mega Feraligatr's ability is pretty lame. I guess Body Slam being Dragon-type and at the same power level as Return is...ok, and Double-Edge becomes pretty strong, but it really would have liked Dragon's Maw instead. Feraligatr already has Dragon Claw and Outrage, it didn't need this ability.

Mega Emboar's is even worse. Great, it can ignore Unaware, but most of the best Unaware walls are Water-type already. I guess it can boost past Skeledirge and be immune to Wisp, and hit the Rotoms with Earthquake. Whatever.

Mega Meganium's, however, is really cool. They actually went along with the dex entry lore and it can shoot 1-turn Solar Beams. Boosted Synthesis healing is also great, as is Weather Ball being Fire-type. I hope it gets Growth at some point, though. All it has for SpA boosting is Work Up, which doesn't get amplified. I do have a question, though. Would Weather Ball not only be 100 BP + Fire-type, but also get the 50% Fire-type move boost Sun typically provides?

I think the biggest irony of mega emboar's ability as a fan of emboar is that they really should have just given us mega typhlosion instead, lol

typhlosion with mold breaker is a lot more synergistic than giving it to a guy with 75 defense and 75 speed, lol

who knows, maybe emboar gets a brand new move in gen 10 that makes it busted regardless of its ability like rage fist made annihilape absolutely insane

According to serebii;

Currently US and Europe prices have yet to be revealed Battle Pass: 1400 Yen a season
Starter Pack: 980 Yen - Contains 50 Training Tickets, 30 Teammate Tickets, 50 additional box space and music from Pokémon Let's Go
Membership: 700 Yen a month or 7000 Yen a year -Gives unique missions, access to music tracks, more Battle Teams and more Pokémon in the box
You will be able to spend Victory Points on cosmetic items as well as items from the store

My biggest complaint is how much FOMO is going to mire this game's reputation/cause fatigue in it, especially if you're telling me I have to pay a 2nd home membership to expand my boxes in champions when I can just use home and transfer back and forth... you're paying for qol.

Glad we saw a mega stone section in the shop but like... we also saw emboarite as a paid pass exclusive so wtf is the long term for these stones?

___

On another note, we haven't seen a pre-evo or mention of eviolite yet have we? I'm impressed at just how much variety by trailers and screenshots floating around there is and I'm wondering if they're going to take the "everyone in their final forms is here but not the pre-evolutions or legends for the time being" approach.
