Pokémon Champions - releasing April 8, 2026

I'd just point as important reminder that they played a dev version with incomplete availability of items / pokemon, with a extremely forced experience and no chance to "experiment".

Most of the missing features (some moves not having full data, pokemon and items missing) are likely to just be there on actual release.
Items missing is expected because you have to buy them in the shop.

Pokemon missing is a native feature of the game having a limited roster.

Move descriptions being incorrect is something that I fully expect to carry over if the game releases in 2 weeks and they feel comfortable showing this as a selling point, I doubt that's still being tweaked last minute.

Bizarre type matchup indicators against the opponent's party when Body Press's move details pop up (on the right). Why does it say SE on Starmie and Charizard?

Then Waterfall shows as neutral on Starmie and Charizard.
Seems to be a bug. The opponent probably did not choose Charizard and Starmie into their team, so the game fails to load their proper types, and treats them as Normal types by default.

Slightly different Japanese preview footage and Q&A from Famitsu.

Apparently this seems to confirm only fully evolved pokemon will be available on launch, specifically addressing the absence of Clefairy.

With "pokemon missing" I was referring to things like the lacking megas and stuff. I am aware that they dont plan to have NFEs around.

Saw it coming but that does suck for some creative eviolite sets.

I doubt we'd see stuff like servine make it in, ever, but also sucks for mons like doublade and magneton too.

Pikachu made it in but that feels more like pikachu just being privileged.

EDIT: Of note the main pokemon getting hurt by this;

- Eevee (has dedicated G-max and Z-moves)
- Meowth (has dedicated G-max)
- Porygon2
- clefairy
- doublade
- scyther
- Magmar (I think gen5 magmar was a thing in VGC?)
- G-corsola (maybe gets in by proxy of base corsola being single stage)
- gligar
- dunsparce
- ferroseed (low tier god)
- sliggoo
- clamperl
- Aron (although pretty sure sucks without toxic anyways)
- magneton
- servine (there is some stuff this does, eviolite with coil was the most used if you weren't using it as an eviolite sub-seeder or defogger)

Let's be honest here, with the game only allowing official formats, the only pokemon in this list that are actually relevant are
- Clefairy
- Porygon 2
- Electabuzz/Magmar (both received Follow Me back in gen 9)
edit: And Murkrow + Dusclops, cause i'm dumb

...that's it. Can add Eevee if Z-Evoboost makes a comeback though it was a very niche set and stopped really having any relevance later in gen 7 as it was too easy to stop / too hard to actually make use of the Baton Passed / Psych Upped boost to make up for playing -1 and -zmove.

Dusclops is also a pretty big loss for Trick Room.

A lot more niche, but Sneasel was also a pretty nice Fake Out lead that was immune to opposing Fake Out and Intimidate thanks to Inner Focus.

Oh my bad, i did completely forget of Murkrow and Dusclops. Been a hot minute since last time I saw both, but they do both see play early in the gens i guess.

NGL, this being intended to be a HOME-linked service, I hope they eventually get everything in.

I'd also enjoy seeing stuff like Megas, exclusive Z-moves, or Gigantamaxes being introduced here.

No Riolu for Prankster Coaching is also pretty lame.

I'm hoping we don't exclude NFEs for too long, but it'd be funny if Eviolite is there at launch and only Pikachu could benefit from it despite Light Ball existing.
"September 25th 2027 we will release our newest battle pass! It has several limited time items like Eviolite, the pokemon colosseum version of champion steven's theme, and a free Klang as one of our few NFEs!, only cost $19.99 + $1.39 accounting for digital tariffs! (requires nintendo online subscription to purchase)"

I hate that you chose Halo 3's 20th birthday for your example :psycry:

"In collaboration with the Halo franchise, we'll also throw in a Master Chief character outfit, 'One Final Effort' from the Halo 3 original soundtrack, 2 free Oran Berries (they're plasma grenades), and 1 free Primeape (it's a Brute)."

Someone made it on Stream using Pikachu, and Ashton Cox used Pikachu in 2016 as well. Scraggy also made Worlds alongside Calyrex-Ice as a Coaching user.
