Mubs would have kept bothering me if I didn't post today so here's my team dump from the 2v2pl tour.

So for some reason i was place into ORAS despite the fact I was at the time i was technically more of a SWSH & BW main so the most experience I had with ORAS 2v2 was with the random room tours and me spamming shaymin sky, greninja and kyurem black on the same teams so I ended up just yoinking and recreating teams from the replays of ORAS2v2 that were available at the time.

https://pokepast.es/1a91f4cd1903c0c8 Pretty Generic TR team. Set up TR with either jellicent or porygon2 and then click the buttons that kill the opponent. Stole this from a replay.

https://pokepast.es/9f54a7e6e5eecd85 Kyurem-black team I made with Metagross-mega cause metagross and kyub is a good core in usm so I figured it probably works here. The Volcanion's berry could also run wacan and I probably should have given it that when I was playing and the hoopa is probably the most changeable thing on here cause I kinda just took the set I found in the sets page and modified it a bit.

https://pokepast.es/bd3823152a9cd939 I stole this team from Poison Adhesive except I probably did terrible recreating it but its cool :D

https://pokepast.es/ace56a0fc01394d2 Talonflame and rain is super basic and I didn't bring this team but in theory it works and there replays of this working out as well.

https://pokepast.es/fd3202ba22cb500b D2TheW gave me this team and its hot shit but also kinda flames at the same time. Set up TR and Trick or treat the opponent and they blow up from a knock off from crawdaunt.

https://pokepast.es/22a1a23e7c2b51fe Gardevoir TR team. 100 speed mon using TR is kinda weird but you can afford to run bulk that way.

https://pokepast.es/ef47e5cc70a1ccce Talonflame + keldeo team. Set up and click moves pretty much.

Ended up helping other build/giving other people teams as well for SwSh so heres a quick dump of those teams as well.

https://pokepast.es/455c4db422591686 Some generic af TR that's actually just the first 4 mons on a VGC team except the rhyperior set is stupid change rock polish to hammer arm or something more useful and make it -spe.

https://pokepast.es/8464b52b74437928 Some stupid meme team that Kard actually brought

https://pokepast.es/90d67402f91e3dbd Lkjc gave this to me

eblurb asked me for teams instead of his team so here's the dump of all the teams I gave him.
https://pokepast.es/1c1b3951852ebad1 I like milotic and zeraora + sawk is a strong core.
https://pokepast.es/a1b97fdcc5b0580f rotom mow is filler I didn't know what to put.
https://pokepast.es/76aaed517c8bda24 read the paste's title for whether you should use it or not
https://pokepast.es/7c44cdd5fd2af080 loses to any decent water type
Also these all lose to whimsicott & sableye I'm pretty sure so don't use these outside of ladder

free teams free real estate
ss: tier feels very centralised around the support pokemon trio in mew sableye and whimsicott. These 3 make it aids to build around and at least one of them should be present in every single team to enable shit like terrak / cinder / both darms. Only solution is to hope dlc additions change the meta in a good way
https://pokepast.es/3fd5f91190f76cb5 standard as shit core in togekiss + arcanine with milotic to beat intimidate spam and dd draga to abuse follow me, won with it in week 1 but its pretty garbage against mew teams so I don't recommend using it
https://pokepast.es/f738ec102ff57845 pretty similar to the above team with the intimidate mon, incineroar in this case + milotic core, used an unorthodox mew set which is definitely worse than imprison sets but ally switch is pretty cool since they don't expect it.

sm: the tier is more unexplored than ss which goes to show how bad of a gen ss is
https://pokepast.es/72da54ac5bde529f built this for pazza week 1 because pa's teams all lose to ice coverage and he won with it so proves that Poison Adhesive is an ass builder
https://pokepast.es/55c852e71e31be38 this would have won but I built with the Robyn vgc kartana that has max hp 0 attack so it lost. The team is just fake out mon + 3 hard hitters and wide guard is pretty broken against zardy and zyg builds
https://pokepast.es/4d5d7e24b5811322 built this week 3 for pazza but his opponent didn't want to play bcz it'd hurt his 2v2pl record :clown: hoopa and volcanion are epic mons but the team probably loses to metagross + zygarde so it sucks

only built like 5 teams because I'm a lazy cow s/o arctovishes for being fun to play with

So after a small amount of discussion with Vrji we've decided to make a few noms. I know it's just before DLC, but we wanted to suggest a few things anyway.

:Weezing-Galar: Weezing Galar: C+ -> B-/B
Weezing fulfills the role of a support mon really really well. Neutralising Gas is an amazing ability which disables all abilities, not only helping your other mon counter sun/rain teams but also shenanigans like whims/sableye. In addition to this, it gets a decent typing in Fairy/Poison with decent coverage, and great physical bulk in 65/120, which can be enhanced with hp investment. In addition to this, it gets decent spread moves in Dazzling Gleam for STAB and Heat Wave for general converage. However some downsides of Weezing are its crowded speed tier of 60, average special bulk of 65/70, and a reliance on choice specs to deal damage with it's base special attack of 85. Levitate is also another option to outplay sand but togekiss is probably a better support user in this case. You can also run general support moves like Taunt, Wisp, Clear Smog etc for a non choiced set.
Weezing-Galar @ Choice Specs
Ability: Neutralizing Gas
EVs: 252 HP / 176 SpA / 80 SpD
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Thunderbolt
- Dazzling Gleam
- Sludge Bomb
- Heat Wave
This set tanks Venu Earth Power with max hp for maximum physical bulk and rest dumped into spatk. You can also creep other base 60s with 4/8 speed investment

:Goodra: Goodra: UR -> B/B+
Goodra, with its amazing SpDef stat of 150, solid hp stat of 90, and very good physical and special movepool including draco meteor, acid spray, thunderbolt, hydro pump and ice beam, is the best and safest counter to the massively popular sun teams as well as generally doing well against any special attacker. It's also quite free in its item choices and can run Assault Vest for even more SpDef, Lum Berry for some insurance against sleep or toxic, or any choice item and different berries, or even weakness policy. Sap Sipper is used to avoid being slept by Venusaur Sleep Powder or other sleep moves and for an extra immunity. However, Goodra's average physical defense can leave it vulnerable to physical attackers such as Excadrill or Zeraora, although it can patch that up with acid armour. Its mediocre offensive stats can also leave it struggling to do enough damage, for example failing to OHKO Zeraora without choice specs. Also check out pqs' goodra nom here (didnt know this existed until now):

After DLC Weez will probably go down in VR a little bit (B- maybe) due to Volcorona and Magnezone being introduced, and Goodra may rise still further. Feel free to discuss any points made or any sets you want added with us below! (tag both me and Vrji in any replies)

what
you already have sap sipper, which blocks sleep powder from venusaur, so is there anything you actually need lum for? toxic users are almost non existent in this meta lol Vrji too

e: also no mentions of weakness policy? your sets are crazy lol
i dont actually have a weakpol set. feel free to pass. Im not actually overly familiar with goodra so i just copy pasted what Vrji wrote and i added toxic against stall since sap sipper and yea i thought it was odd
e: updated with weakpol and also added a reference to your nom

With dlc coming soon let’s look at some possible ways these mons could be used in 2v2! Only relevant mons included, don’t expect to see emolga.

EEA6EFF5-C538-4D99-BD05-EBECA7342622.png

Urshifu - This mon is getting banned lol

:Golduck: - A cool anti sun mon, maybe anti sand too, but it’s only niche really is stopping weather.

:Poliwrath: - One of many new swift swimmers, most swift swim users are special attackers so maybe it could be the dedicated chansey beater on rain with it getting close combat now.

:Magnezone: - Not very good in doubles, maybe could use electro web but then it’s a worse rotom.

:Chansey: - Disgusting mon. Super fat, ally switch, and recovery. This mon is going to be very good.

:Kingdra: - The perfect rain mon. Draco meteor, hydro pump, and it gets hurricane this gen. Busted mon that is returning to its BW glory. :psynervous:

:Scizor: - Not very good in 2v2 :I bullet punch is fun I guess.

:Azumarill: - Huge power is always fun but I don’t see it having a big niche.

:Politoed: - Worse Pelipper. :blobsad:

:Exploud: - Honestly specs scrappy hyper voice / boomburst could be pretty good. It also gets good coverage with like fire blast and surf.

:Krookodile: - Intimidate, dark type, stab earthquake. *Sand incineroar noises*

:Amoonguss: - This mon is going to be really good with trick room. It gets rage powder and spore, so epic support options.

:Mienshao: - Fast sawk with fake out. Honestly going to be insane.

:Volcarona: - Rage powder, quiver dance, heat wave. :psysly:

:Talonflame: - With speed mechanics in gen 8, priority tailwind is going to be an extremely good tool, it doesn’t even need to drop any coverage because it’s only usable moves are brave bird, flare blitz, and protect anyway zzz.

:Dragalge: - Trick room sludge wave?:blobshrug:

:Lycanroc: - Fast stab rock slide and accelerock exist

DLC is finally out (though not on PS) and I wanted to share my thoughts on some of the new faces we'll prob see:

Ban territory:

  • :magearna: This will probably get quickbanned. Does the same thing it did last gen and is even more stupid this time around.
  • Urshifu with its good stats and protect-ignoring ability is def under my radar for things likely to be broken.

Notable Pokemon:
  • :Chansey: The mon invalidates a lot of Sun and Rain builds, along with just being a bulky nuisance with ally switch. Top tier for sure.
  • :Kingdra: Really nice rain mon. Hurricane gives it a nice move for bulky grasses. This will probably bring rain back in the conversation as a top teamstyle.
  • :Amoonguss: Does what it did last gen. Really nice bulky redirector with Spore for Trick Room.
  • :Porygon2: Another TR setter with great bulk and nice abilities, if it gets the move.
  • :Azumarill: Nice rain abuser can be run on balance builds looking for a nice Water-type for sun.
Notable Pokemon v2 but its blitz:
  • :Alakazam: Nice Psyspam abuser.
  • :Mienshao: Faster Sawk with Fake Out.
  • :Volcarona: Nice Fire-type with faster redirection. Kaif we bringing back clef ho?
  • :Slowbro: Another TR setter.
  • :Talonflame: Cool Tailwind.
  • :Lurantis: TR Abuser.
  • :Scizor: Offensive Steel-type for rain.
  • :Porygon-Z: Hyper Beam.
  • :Politoed: Secondary rain setter that isn't 4x weak to Electric.
  • :poliwrath: Nice physical rain mon for chansey.

My 2c. As always thanks for reading and have a nice day.

just a few things
1. how are you planning to use fake out in psy terrain? (yes i know flying types exist but it seems pretty niche and probably other options exist)
2. The only way to actually status an opponent is with rilla's body slam so i dont see a use case for hex

magearna and why we should ban it

magearna.png

Magearna is inherently broken in a Doubles format due to its ability, Soul Heart. This causes its Special Attack to be raised by one stage every time a Pokemon on the field faints (note: you don't have to cause the faint, anything can). This alone makes Magearna great but it has some other features that make it even better, such as its Steel- / Fairy-typing and excellent STAB moves in Flash Cannon and Fleur Cannon, which hits many types super-effectively and is only resisted by opposing Steel-types and Fire-types, in which the former typing can be covered by Magearna with either Aura Sphere or Focus Blast -- your choice. Usually Magearna's last moveslot goes to Protect, since a lot of threats will be focusing Magearna since it's such a big threat on the field, so using Protect is really helpful since your partner can clean up any threats to your team, and you in return get a Special Attack boost. Speaking of partners, the most notable one right now is Final Gambit Accelgor, because if at least one of your opponents have a base HP less than or equal to 80, which there is almost always going to be, and you also aren't outsped by anything, you can usually Final Gambit the aforementioned low base HP Pokemon and make both your opponent's Pokemon and your Accelgor faints, Soul Heart boosts Magearna's Special Attack twice, which combined with an Attack boosting item like Life Orb, does crazy amounts of damage. Just look at some of these calcs:
+2 252+ SpA Life Orb Magearna Fleur Cannon vs. 248 HP / 0 SpD Assault Vest Incineroar: 441-520 (112.2 - 132.3%) -- guaranteed OHKO - That's the bulkiest Incineroar is gonna get, and Magearna just rams through it.
+2 252+ SpA Life Orb Magearna Fleur Cannon vs. 248 HP / 0 SpD Torkoal: 406-477 (118.3 - 139%) -- guaranteed OHKO - Yeesh
+2 252+ SpA Life Orb Magearna Fleur Cannon vs. 248 HP / 24 SpD Ferrothorn: 261-308 (74.3 - 87.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO - Doesn't KO but still really big chip damage & can usually KO the next turn.
+2 252+ SpA Life Orb Magearna Fleur Cannon vs. 248 HP / 0 SpD Scrafty: 2152-2532 (646.2 - 760.3%) -- guaranteed OHKO - Just a for fun calc :psysly:

I'm not the best writer but if you go on ladder and try out Magearna, with the right combo it just gets free wins. Here's a team I personally made which consistently gave me a lot of wins.

This team was originally just me playing around with the new DLC Pokemon, but ended up being one of my favorite and best teams. Magearna + Accelgor is a broken core, as I've explained already, and I chose Alolan Marowak as the third Pokemon because it soaks up Rising Voltage spam from Alolan Raichu and Pinchurin, and also has the rare niche of absolutely obliterating the common Magearna + Accelgor core due to it being immune to Final Gambit, and resisting all of Magearna's attacks. Amoonguss was just a filler since I had a sour Rain matchup, but it can really be replaced by a lot.

SM 2v2 PL teams that helped me go 3-0. I haven't built since like, June 2019, so I'm v surprised these are still up to date.

Hyperspace to break Protect + stuff to hit hard is dope but I usually just end up clicking the stab and killing shit.

should be everything I've used

I'm aware Magearna has been banned from DOU which by default means it is banned here but we should seperate our banlist from them because our metagame is different, even if both are Doubles formats.

Magearna is definitely not broken and I dont think it can be considered meta defining or uncompetitive in any way. Soul-Heart is indeed an ability that can come in handy and I can understand how it might sound overpowered when Magearna does not have to cause the faint itself and can simply sit there and receive the boosts, but this does not always mean that faints are easily caused or that the boosts it obtains comes heavily into play against the last remaining Pokemon. Magearna is quite clearly a good Pokemon because of everything surrounding it from its stats and typing to its movepool, however, it is simply a good Pokemon and doesn't shake the metagame like some say. Magearna looks like any solid Pokemon and while being a viable pick it has no clear bannable factors that come into play.

Soul-Heart only proves to be broken on paper.
I frankly dont understand what you are trying to tell me with these calcs, from what I can see this tells me that Magearna is not capable of defeating these Pokemon on its own unless it is at a +2 which is not always very easy to achieve. I am aware that these take into account the boosts that are given when it is paired up with Accelgor using Final Gambit but here's where the real problem comes in.

Final Gambit as most people know is capable of easily defeating a Pokemon by simply having more HP available than your opponent. I believe this move was made legal because most of the abusers had disappeared, namely Victini, but as we have seen lately Accelgor has risen to the top as the main Final Gambit abuser and has been able to cheese matchups exactly like how Victini was able to. It should be clear that Magearna is not the problem here because while yes, Final Gambit functions exceptionally well with Soul-Heart, this does not mean that it only functions well with Magearna. There are many ways that this move can be used in and it looks to be very uncompetitive exactly like it was last gen and should not have been allowed in the first place. Less abusers does not make it more of a fair move.

TL;DR Final Gambit is the problem, not Magearna.

I had not played much 2v2 before premier league and was not planning on joining, but with the extra free time I thought i'd give it a shot and I enjoyed it quite a bit and we came so close to winning. I did not get too creative in my building as I still have quite a bit to learn there, but I always tried to think of some new stuff every week. Teams are probably bad now with DLC, but I look forward to playing some of the upcoming tours and building with the new mons. If I didn't post something that, I used I didn't build it or I didn't like it.

I built this early on when I thought that sun beat everything except Tyranitar, so I slapped Keldeo onto the suncore. I really like Ninetales from DOU and I think the fast fire mons can just win vs some teams, but overall the team has some issues with no tect venusaur probably being bad and trash vs dragons.

I was using Sun on ladder and kept getting fucked by Goodra, so I thought I'd try it out and put it some mons that don't take fire attacks too well. I'm guessing the EVs don't mean anything cuz I'm too lazy for that.

I think this sun team is better than my original as the combination of STAB moves from Cinderace makes it generally more threatening than Charizard. I would probably change the Zera to Play Rough to help with dragons, but overall I liked this team a lot. I really like Ninetales and I never lost with during the tour.

I had Sylveon over Cinderace earlier in the tour, but I believe Cinderace is better to help blow back faster things especially under Tailwind. Terrak and Cinderace both appreciate Tailwind so much and there are very few mons that can handle pressure from both. Protect on Whims is something I thought was stupid before, but it's really useful to help with Fake Out and then provide Twind with the new speed mechs.

I forgot Iron Defense on my Ferrothorn in my match, but it should have had it. Both Necrozma and Ferrothron can function well with Blastoise and Zera support depending on the matchup. I was happy with this team and it did well with testing on the ladder.

The 2v2 Doubles Council has decided to resuspect Dracovish.

The voting requirements are a minimum GXE of 75 with at least 15 games played. For this suspect test, you must create a new account that begins with 2vSH to qualify. Dracovish will be legal on the ladder. The suspect will end on June 29th, 11:59 PM EST. Dracovish will require a vote of 60% Unban to remain legal after the suspect.

You are encouraged to give your thoughts on Dracovish in this thread. Tagging The Immortal or Kris to have this implemented on PS!

Also, this is my 50th post in the thread, so obligatory thanks to Felucia for letting me take over and all of you for playing the tier.
