Metgross and dragonite is good
For a while I used dragonite, heatran, and empoleon, but emplolion just never pulled his weight.

Well I built my classic togekiss, cloyster, dragonite team when I was doing GBU (global battle union) batles, so it is an ultraoffensive team.
But you clearly have stall in your blood.
When I did a rain team and my little cup teams, I went to the monthly usage reports and started picking three of the top usage pokes that seemed to fit together, then added pokes as I went down the line.

I see Genesect and politoed are still at the top, a good pair for a rain team because rain weakens fire and genesect does not like fire.

You could also team up dragonite and heatran (though I have never had luck with heatran) But Heatran resists most of what dragonite is weak to.

Or maybe build around any of the dragons toward the top with a scarf. I see that a lot nowadays. once again you could use hetran as a switch in defensively and maybe even use it for stealth rocks.
