  • Hello, below is a Rhyperior team that me, sockzz and colton worked on in the discord. I sent the loaded dice lightning rod team because this one seemed very funny to me, especially against raging bolt. Is there anything we should change? What are your thoughts on it?

    In the 2nd replay I accidentally pressed Rock Polish instead of Rock Blast, but despite the misclick Rhyperior can 6-0 sun teams

    This seems cool! I love the creativity, and this Rhyperior could definitely mess some people up. I'd say Leftovers + Stone Edge is worth testing as well, but Loaded Dice may be optimal. My main concern is just that I doubt Rhyperior is good enough as a sweeper to justify a slot here. When stuff like Ogerpon Wellspring exists... But it is fun!

Normally, when writing to professors, I'd say something about the weather to like acknowledge that they're a person and not just a tool that grades my papers. Unfortunately, I have no idea what the weather is like for you because idk where you live. The weather in my city is lovely today.

    I have this Rillaboom Garganacl BO that has been kinda sucking for me, but I don't understand why. I lost to DD Espeed Ice Spinner Roost Dragonite. I lost to a mono bug team. I'm going insane.

    I have a really hard time getting/keeping rocks up. Also, while I haven't really been losing to ground types or ground coverage, I feel like I can't add a Ground immunity without being too weak to other things.
    I also tried to restart and ended up with this wip, but it still looks really sketchy.

    So my question is, is the core of Rillaboom + Garg just not viable? I feel like I went wrong really early in the building process. Is that true?

    Happy to report I put rocks on Heatran, made Garg curse, and changed the Glowking to toxic + future sight over tspikes and psynoise and these changes have dramatically improved my winrate. Still happy to take feedback though.

    Glad to hear it's going better! Rilla Garg is definitely a solid core, Garg is great at setting up Stealth Rock and keeping it on the field, which is great for Rilla, and Grassy Terrain is nice for Garg. The main issue with the team seems to be the complete lack of speed, counting fully on Grassy Glide is going to make certain sweepers and breakers that resist Grassy Glide VERY difficult.

    Hey Pink! Made this team that works around Specs Valiant.
    It does fairly well its a certified mid-ladder demon, breaks nicely, but speed control is a bit of an issue, especially against Banded Oger and Zamazenta. Any tips?

    For Banded Oger, Leftovers on Kingambit and a more defensive set would help. It's a power trade-off for sure, and Oger-Grass isn't super common, but that's the fastest fix for that. As for Zama, I think your team can handle it most of the time, but one possible answer is going with a Tera type like Fairy / Bug / Ghost on Raging Bolt. Probably Ghost is best of all. You can even run Discharge over Thunderbolt, I like that on Leftovers sets. If these two pokemon prove to be too big of an issue, Pecharunt over Rbolt is a possibility. I'd definitely go Aqua Jet on Hrott in that case though, that change makes Iron Moth scary.

    The main issue here is that this team is horrifically weak to hazards. If Stealth Rock goes up, or Spikes, it's going to be extremely difficult to win. You definitely need solid removal if you're using non HDB Dragonite. I question the viability of Scarf Dragonite in general, but if you're set on trying to make that work, I'd make sure you fit in a Great Tusk or Iron Treads here. I'd also suggest a defensive core of some sort, Scarf Dragonite is going to be very easy to take advantage of and you'll need to switch it out a lot. Your current team has no defensive core and thus hates switching. Pairing Multiscale with Sand is also not ideal.

    Hey Pinkacross I made this team https://pokepast.es/ee0d54270a35f756 that revolves around a Ogerpon Grass + Zap VoltTurn core. I use hazards to break and also have a somewhat niche Shuca Berry on Glowking to trade with ground types like Tusk to open up Volt Switch and punish rapid spins (on early turns) so hazards can stay up for longer later. I was wondering if you could rate it on a scale of 1-10 so I could improve stuff I didn’t really notice myself (also cuz I’m low ladder)

    I made a second version (which I think is better) where I replaced TWave on Zap for Heat Wave (so treads doesn’t wall) and replaced FSight on Glowking with Psychic Noise for immediate damage vs Iron Moth and also to chip Blissey (or rarely) Sub Kyurem, as well as simply changing its nature so I’m slightly better vs special mons. The last notable change is using Razor Shell > Aqua Cutter just so I can chip / break down walls like Corviknight more easily. Here is the team, you can rate either if you have the time.     Looking at the second version, it seems quite good! I'd have to play it to give an accurate estimate, but I'd say about a 6.5. My main concern is Fire types, Hrott as the only resist is rough. Iron Moth and Cinderace could be problematic. Aqua Jet over Encore on Hrott may help, but if the problem persists then you may want to rebuild or restructure. You also may want to throw Tera Ghost on Treads here for another spinblocker.

    Mostly this seems solid, but the lack of a dragon resist worries me! Ceruledge also seems like a bit of a random choice here, it doesn't really fit with the rest of the balance team to have a random hit-or-miss sweeper

    The Cinderace is an odd move. A Great Tusk could replace Cinderace for removal, and it helps with Garganacl. As for Banded Oger, honestly I don't see how thats an issue given you have Kyurem, Ceruledge, and a Booster Speed Ival...

    Zeraora is a solid pivot with it outspeeding the entire unboosted metagame so I made this team. however this team hates to deal with ghost types and I got no good fix with it also making me horrendous against fairy types.

    Yea, rocky helm defensive lando works. Go jolly speedy, outspeed Pecharunt at least. Defog EQ U-turn filler, knock toxic taunt are all solid

    Hi, I've watched a lot of your videos recently, but I can never seem to nail a good team, maybe I just need to get better before I start teambuilding but so far I have made 2 teams that I think are decent but they both have some flaws, can you tell me what I might be doing wrong and maybe fix them?

    Team 1: Try speed boosting max HP Great Tusk with a Rocky Helmet, this will help with Dragonite. For fairies, perhaps consider Venusaur over Brute Bonnet.

    Team 2: Tera Fairy on Hydrapple could help with Specs Bolt. No Knock Off isn't a huge issue here, the whole point of your team is just bringing in Hydrapple over and over basically. You could try to remove Kingambit for a Knock Off Dark type like Weavile though.

    Team 1: Ill try that, I was thinking of replacing Brute Bonnet anyway, no priority sucks but I guess Venusaur is fast enough to make do

    Team 2: Ill definitely be changing the tera type. I think youre probably right about knock off, and replacing Kingambit with Weavile definitely doesnt seem worth it. I might also replace stealth rocks on Landorus with grass knot, not having the two most important moves on my team feels wrong but having no knock off, no reliable spinblocker, and two ways of removing my own hazards on top of being a massive momentum sink on a choice scarfer makes it feel mostly useless here.

    Honestly this team is extremely strange and lacks a typical structure. Many very meta pokemon, like Kingambit and Wellspring are a complete nightmare for this team. I'd suggest trying out some sample teams or looking for a team on the Rate My Team forum that suits you, until you have a better grasp on the metagame.

    Yea this does indeed lose to Zamazenta. Physically defensive Glowking often works well on these teams to help with that.

    You'll have to give up one of your breakers, and potentially remove Mandibuzz, it seems like quite a momentum sink here. This team has WAY too much power, which is not inherently a problem but it's impossible to defensively support

    The least structurally vital pokemon seems like Iron Valiant. I'd go Specs on Pult, and swap Ival for a Ground. Ting-Lu over Gambit could also work, but I'd go Vacuum Wave on Iron Valiant if you go that route.

    Hello again, this time I'm wondering about your thoughts on this offense (I think that's the proper archetype) team I built around Mega Lopunny & Lele (two of my favorite mons; I'm glad they're good). The team itself feels like it works really well, but sun is a pretty rough matchup.     A little bit of both, but Charizard-Y is the main concern. And yeah, I've noticed the lack of fairy resist is rough in opposing lele matchups, but most other fairies seem to be dealt with just fine with the little defensive core the team does have.

    I have considered av mola but wish feels too good to pass up a lot of the time, especially considering my team loses a lot of longevity if I were to do so.

    A specially defensive Heatran over Kingambit would help some of these problems defensively, but the lack of Pursuit would hurt your breaking core. To get a Fairy resist, you could try Ferrothorn over Terapagos (this also helps your Wellspring problem) and changing Landorus to be Defog.

    I thought that maybe to fix the ogerpon matchup with rain maybe slither wing out work, this one is EV'd to survive a rain boosted jolly ivy cudgel and fire back with an ohko first impression.     Unfortunately the Fairy weakness here is horrifying... I think you need to try and fit on a Ferrothorn

    I have to thank you a lot Pinkacross. I watched some of your videos after being absent from the community for about six months, because I was mad that I kept constantly only hitting around the 1500s in National Dex OU, so I never broke the top 500, and I had a horrific day where I lost over 200 ELO. Anyways, I watched your video where you talked about habit playing and because of that and some brief advice by a former coach on the National Dex OU ladder, I was able to grow a lot as a player, although I still have a long way to go, and actually make the top 500 ladder in National Dex OU, I am currently sitting at 486 at 1643 ELO. This is the team (https://pokepast.es/5ab3aa510829eec1) I built and was using, it's good although it still struggles too much against Raging Bolt and Gliscor, which are major flaws that I am tring to work out.

    Congratulations on top 500, that's awesome! If you're struggling with Gliscor, I'd say the most replaceable pokemon here is Zamazenta. It doesn't seem to be doing anything defensively crucial, and you have other forms of speed control, so perhaps it could be replaced by something like a Kyurem. Alternatively, I realize your team has no Fairy resist, this is very concerning! I'd suggest Weavile over Kingambit (which also helps with Gliscor) and Ferrothorn over Zamazenta!

    Barra and Crown for the Force (Crown doesn't benifit too much from rain [neutral to fire] but its a great revenge killer or switch in when opponent wastes a turn)

    Can you tell me what you think and maybe suggest some changes that might improve it?

    After that, I decided to build another rain team just for fun, but this time I wanted to use different Pokémon to experiment instead of repeating mons I already used before. I tried Thundurus since it has higher Special Attack than Zapdos, but it doesn’t get Hurricane for some reason, which was disappointing.

    To make up for that, I added a Life Orb Tornadus to fully abuse rain with Hurricanes and Weather Ball. The rest of the team is mostly there to provide defensive pivots and safe switch-ins when I feel threatened. Corviknight helps a lot into Kingambit, but it can also end up sweeping teams on its own if the opponent misplays and lets me set up.

    These are both cool teams! With the first team, my main concern is burning turns. Gliscor in particular both runs down rain turns and doesn't take advantage of it at all. Hazard stack also worries me, Tentacruel is a VERY easy pokemon to spinblock. I'd give it Surf so it can actually deal significant damage to Gholdengo and Pecharunt.

    As for the second team, my main concern is the lack of sufficient speed or priority. A Darkrai, Weavile, Nasty Plot Deo-S, or even a CB Zamazenta are extremely difficult to deal with. The concept of taking advantage of two weathers with Weather Ball is cool, but I'd recommend replacing either Torn or Thundy and making Pelipper Choice Specs. Damp Rock isn't as needed when there are only 1-2 abusers that don't rely on Rain that much. Also, go HDB or some other item on Glowking, you don't need Lagging Tail unless you're running Trick Room. If you really want to underspeed other Glowking, just go level 99

    Yeah there have been games where I was unable to get the hazard removal with tenta and lost. Tenta is easy to block but I use knock off when any ghold comes in which is useful enough. Is it more better to abandon knock off and go for a special attacking tenta with surf and sludge bomb?

    I think you are right about damp rock not being needed as much but I need roost so how can I use specs. What about giving Thundurus Scarf? I think tornadus is reliable with regen healing life orb damage so I would rather keep it, is it good enough though. About glowking it has trick so I mainly wanted to make the opponent slow, since my team is not super fast. I didn't intend on underspeeding other glowking at all.

    I'd say abandoning Knock is probably the move yea, being able to pressure Ghold is important. Knock isn't doing much to Ghold.

    As far as Scarf Thundurus, that seems solid! Worth a try for sure.

    Hi! Going back to your previous Tera vid, I had an idea pop up of using cheesy paraspam + Hex and Astonish Pult, so Tera Ghost both powers up Hex and brings Astonish to 60 BP to go in tandem with TWave. I had Spell Tag at first, which helps with Hex but not with Astonish, which sucked so I switched to boots (i am not touching Life Orb). i thought a fatter team would work best, and with the edits i am worried about ting lu + gholdengo, gliscor, and especially kingambit. also i have no idea if there are better tera for sanda and glowkinghow does this team look? as it suggests it is pretty cheesy but really fun to use.

    Honestly I don't think Astonish Pult is viable at all, but this is interesting! My main concern is that it doesn't look like you have any real abuser for all the paraspam. No substitute Kyurem, no Sub Darkrai, etc.

    A quick note though, if you're worried about Kingambit, going with Jolly max speed on your own Kingambit will help a lot

    Hey and first off, it's been fun & educational watching your videos on teambuilding, since that's really helped me reevaluate how I team build because before, all I'd really consider was typing. After improving, I think this spdef Tyranitar team of mine is good (https://pokepast.es/a1803474d02a57ad - I got to ~1740 with it on the ladder) but I know it lacks priority which makes it suffer into more offensive teams, and my time on the ladder confirms that. I'd be curious to hear what you have to say about it, since I know it's on the bulkier side which isn't going with the current meta trends. Again, thanks for the videos and I wish ya the best!

    Thank you for the support! This seems quite solid for the most part. My main recommendation would be making Hydrapple a bit faster to outspeed Blissey, this makes stallbreaking a lot easier. You also may want to consider Excadrill, potentially over Great Tusk or Gholdengo. Certainly not a necessity, but it's a strong pokemon when you have sand. That would also help in the HO matchup, Excadrill is WAY faster than Scarf Ghold.

    The faster Hydrapple is nice as it's somewhat more noticeable when mons get paralyzed by Ttar's twave. The experiments with Excadrill, while they are nice and allow me to sweep sometimes, lacking Scarf Ghold's on demand speed / Tusk's resists felt worse to me, but I also have more time with the older team than the newer ones, so that is probably a part of it.

    probably the lack of knock off, I tried knock off In Tsareena but leaves me to being walled by heatran who is hard to switch into and boots kyurem runs me over with its coverage

    This looks good for the most part! My main concern is that Gholdengo hazard stack is a NIGHTMARE, you also have no immunity to Will-O-Wisp. Cinderace over Darkrai might be a good move.

    hello pinkacross ! ive been experimenting with a team that revolves around using metal coat gholdengo but im having alot of trouble deciding on a last mon. ive tested ogerpon ( both wellspring and cornerstone ), blaziken , and multiple different versions of walking wake. currently ive landed on scarf samurott hisui for its spikes and powerful stab knock offs and pivoting but it still dosent feel quite right. ive noticed the issue with the team is that i end up too slow with my fastest mon still getting somewhat regularly outsped. id love to hear your input on the team though ! https://pokepast.es/aecca2796a33f0a6

    Metal Coat Gholdengo fits well on many different teams. I'm a bit confused as to why Umbreon was the first partner here, it seems like you considered type synergy, but otherwise this team is pretty wack. You have Garchomp and Hisuian Samurott to stack hazards, but Weezing as removal, and of course Defog removes your hazards as well. Remember to consider how all pokemon synergize with one another when building, not just the pokemon you're building around!
