As I had posted in the RNG topic but apparently nobody noticed, here's what I've at least noticed: headbutt advances to the 3rd frame if done from the start, so if you did elm calls 5 times, it will get you to frame 8. Also, only headbutt on trees where wild pokemon appear, and I basically did trial and error for each available frame until I got what was desired.
