Umm...If you've never done a Capture Project before I'd say start out with a stationary legendary without any roaming NPC's (ex: Heatran, Palkia, Dialga, Darkrai, Azelf, Uxie).

The fact that a simple fall could do that tells me that Datel is a cheapass 'doesn't give a shit that it's selling to kids and should be making tougher fall-resistant products' company.
Never heard of that particular problem. You may have to reset the AR and reload the codes. I'd do some research first, though. Once you reset the AR, you pretty much have to deal with a blank AR and if it turns out to be bricked, well, you just have to work with an AR that won't communicate with the computer.
Btw, don't be hard on your little brother. My AR bricked for no apparent reason while I was loading in new codes using the computer. After researching this, I discovered that the AR programming or hardware or both is very fragile and bricked ARs are one of the main complaints from AR purchasers.
It may be bricked. You may need to manually re-enter all the game codes. I happen to use a bricked AR. It can't work with the computer, but I can manually load in everything I need.

When I didn't have my AR, I used rare candies. You can either save just after the egg hatches, so you can soft reset to keep your rare candies. Or you can save after 10 rare candies, which will keep your pokemon at level 10 of course. But with at least 10 rare candies, you have an idea if the IVs are not the ones you were trying to get.
Hi. I tried getting the cowgirls facing each other, both up and down postions and side to side. I had fairly reasonable stable frames when calibrating, but the moment I had to use the journal for an RNG attempt, I had a really hard time. So the cowgirls getting saved facing each other didn't help me. Sorry.
