  • hello pinkacross ! ive been experimenting with a team that revolves around using metal coat gholdengo but im having alot of trouble deciding on a last mon. ive tested ogerpon ( both wellspring and cornerstone ), blaziken , and multiple different versions of walking wake. currently ive landed on scarf samurott hisui for its spikes and powerful stab knock offs and pivoting but it still dosent feel quite right. ive noticed the issue with the team is that i end up too slow with my fastest mon still getting somewhat regularly outsped. id love to hear your input on the team though ! https://pokepast.es/aecca2796a33f0a6
Hi Pinkacross, I've been playing for quite a while and only recently got into teambuilding, your videos really helped me to get a good start.
Do you have any advice on building offense teams? I noticed that whenever I try building an offense team (i mainly play SV NDOU), I always end up going back to very bulky and slow cores, and I can't figure out how to make my teams more offensive without immediately losing to something I had not planned for. How do you get over the fear of getting steamrolled by a random MegaGyarados or Z-Volcarona that your limited defensive core cannot handle?
For example, today I built this OgerponW+Gholdengo "offense" (https://pokepast.es/141ec6673620ab94). I wanted it to be an offense team, but somehow the final version of the team included a TankChomp, Toxapex, Defensive Zapdos and a nonSD Kingambit. The team performed decently on ladder, but it was much more slow and bulky than originally intended. I'm not asking for help on this team specifically (since it ended up not being offense), just some general guidelines/tips to keep in my mind for next time
Hello Pinkacross, sorry to bother you, I just realised that the team I submitted for the team fixes is weak to tera water garganacl and low-key alomomola. This is only relevant if you choose it for the video. Thanks. :)

Hi Pinkacross, I wanted to know if you think SD SpD Gliscor functions fine as wall and stall breaker. The issue is I need all of a wall, something that can at least do good chip to stall, if not make good progress, and something that can set stealth rocks. I tried Ting-Lu but it was a huge momentum drain and forced me to commit tera to not die to chip, which lost me a game where I didn't think far enough into the future to see I needed tera elsewhere, and I'm not wholly confident in lower ranked mons at fulfilling this role. Any help would be hugely appreciated.

Is it worth considering running Hatterene modest 180 SpA evs to guarantee a 2HKO on Toxapex or is that overthinking EVs? Toxapex is an issue for my team so I would like Hatterene to hard counter it as magic bounce blocks Toxic, TSpikes, and can't recover due to psychic noise.
    Pinkacross
    Pinkacross
I'd suggest defensive, Hatterene living a hit is often MUCH more important than it dealing more damage.
Hello Pinka, I'm here cuz I need some recommendation for this team. I found Specs Raging Bolt + 4 Attacks Waterpon to be a really solid breaking core. I've been racking my brain on how to support this and the result was being very weak to Dragapult and Darkrai. I put Tera Dark on Slowing but it wasn't good enough.

Have you tried Assault Vest Tera Fairy on Slowking? That might be enough. You could also try special defense Mirror Armor Corviknight to help with Specs Pult and Rai.
Hello Pinkacross, Lately i've been watching some of your videos on making a balance team in Competitive Pokemon

I would appreciate your help in improving my team

This has no power really at all, you're fully counting on Scizor to sweep basically as a wincon, nothing else has a good shot of making progress against even a balance team. I'd suggest perhaps using some sample teams for a bit, until you have a better idea of the metagame.

Hey Pinkacross, I’ve been testing a new team since my other one was trash, and this one has been doing well for me, revolving around Rillaboom and Gholdengo as a breaking core. Most of the pokemon on my team have been doing what they needed to do, but I’m considering swapping cinderace maybe for a different fast pivot because I feel like tusk is doing its role in hazard removal and I would maybe benefit from something with more offensive power than cinderace. I’ll link the team, tell me what you think about it and swapping cinderace. Thanks in advance! https://pokepast.es/ec77a1326fcaf8b0

Also I'm not sure if this is just this version but you should make all of your mons female to avoid cute charm enamorous
    Ominous Void
    Ominous Void
Rillaboom was the only one that needed to be female cuz all other contact moves are for switching like on cinderace, but if you want to make them female despite that it won’t really change anything
    Pinkacross
    Pinkacross
Glad to hear the changes are working well! To help with Kyurem, a Tera type like Ice on Tornadus is also a decent option.
Good luck on the garg stream ^_^

Also is it possible to ditch high speed for raw intimidating breaking power such as slow pivoting into mamoswine using chilly reception
    Pinkacross
    Pinkacross
I'm not sure what you're asking, could you please reword the question? Slow pivoting is definitely helpful but Glowking / Slowking aren't breakers.

    Hello Pinkacross,
I've been a huge fan of your content since I discovered it. I'm trying to get back into the swing of things with competitive Pokemon and I appreciate you trying to make sense out of a metagame as powrcrept as SV OU.
I recently made a Sticky Web hyper offense team featuring my favorite Pokémon, Haxorus. I know it's not a good Pokémon due to its terrible bulk and mono-Dragon typing, but I specifically chose it because I wanted to take advantage of Mold Breaker to screw over Dondozo and Clodsire. I specifically chose Loaded Dice Scale Shot with Tera Steel as I believe it's the best way to make this thing work in OU.
I would greatly appreciate your help in improving this team. As this is my first team in a while, I tried to play it safe with the other Pokemon and didn't deviate much from what is recommended on Smogon.

    Link to the team: https://pokepast.es/6cd5efbfe2843a9c

I can definitely imagine Cinderace being a pain in the ass immediately. I also don't necessarily have anything that can immediately threaten Zamazenta, especially since my Kingambit is Tera Dark. Speaking of Kingambit, it's also my only Ghost and Dark resist, so I'm basically counting on it to break as much as possible.
    Pinkacross
    Pinkacross
I think this set is a good approach for Haxorus! There's a very popular webs option that can fix all of your issues-- Choice Specs Tera Fairy Enamrous. It provides another breaker, threatens Zamazenta immediately, AND it helps with Cinderace. In the Cinderace matchup, you can Tera Fairy to ground the Enamorus, then you get a Contrary speed boost if the Cinderace uses Court Change, giving you an insanely fast and powerful Modest Specs Enamorus.

I'd recommend replacing either Glimmora or Iron Moth for Enam, whichever is performing worse.
Hello Pinka, been watching your content for the past year or so, and learned quite a lot of stuff that can also be applied to other tiers while doing so! However, whether if I can actually have the patience to use my time and think carefully enough to make use of that knowledge is something else, I’m always super jittery like on substances when I play games with barely anything on the line at all!

Now, back to the main topic of today, I’m just a normal ahh kid who don’t have the capital to just throw out dozens of dollars at once for the tutoring sessions, and neither do smogon got the resources available as it has been a whole year since my request in a non OU tier has been out with nobody available… so I’ll make best of what I can.

I’ve learned a thing or two while in my unexpected hiatus from mons, while I won’t get into all of them one of them includes the fact that knowledge playing OU can apply to other tiers as well, which is exactly why I’m going to start off trying to teambuild and play in OU first and foremost.

    https://pokepast.es/eb7e524bd8fe3a30

Help would be very much appreciated.

My philosophy in teambuilding first and foremost is to have an option that can trivialize most stall with basic plays and positioning, then build off from there. Whether the said set has utility into other teams might be hard to say, but for this specifically it does.

Regardless, wellspring might still be an issue.
    Pinkacross
    Pinkacross
Seems like a fun Steel spam team! My main concern is that you have 3 pokemon weak to Ghost and no resists... this is a pretty major issue. Also, while this Raging Bolt set is interesting, it DOES make your Wellspring matchup a lot worse. Starting with a way to beat stall is a good way to build, but I'd recommend considering these defensive requirements more afterwards! Your team has a lot of power, but relies almost entirely on Glowking and Great Tusk as a defensive core.
    Pigbeeef
    Pigbeeef
Maybe kingambit or something over pult for the ghost resist? Rai? Maybe? I’ll probably go with that as a base, but by doing so having three mons weak to fire might be an issue. Could def go Tera fire lefties gambit for the longevity against ghosts.
But idk, gambit as ghost resist sounds way too exploitable, any ideas?
    Pinkacross
    Pinkacross
I don't think there's any quick fix for this team, probably replacing Scizor with Kingambit would be the easiest but that will likely lead to a really rough Hyper Offense matchup. Rebuilding is probably the best course of action.
    Quick question
Any pokemon able to be paired with bulky nasty plot ghold + sub curse press dozo that can deal with dragon types (the pult situation is crazy )
What do you think about :Hydrapple:?
I personally think it's the most underrated Pokemon by far
    Pinkacross
    Pinkacross
Hydrapple is good, I like it! Solid Wellspring switch-in, and great for breaking fat teams. The problem is that fat teams are pretty rare.
Hey Pinkacross, I made this bulky Hazard Stack and I was looking for a few pointers for improvement. I think it has the potential to be great! https://pokepast.es/9fdae9be06b36341
    Moss/chaotic
    Moss/chaotic
Does substitute actually work on Dozo?

Is it like kyurem where they’re just bulky enough to set or is speed a bigger factor
    Moss/chaotic
    Moss/chaotic
Because lanche/press , curse , liquidation and sub kinda is the opposite where it reduces speed
    Pinkacross
    Pinkacross
I wouldn't ever recommend running Substitute on Dondozo, but testing is key. If its working, keep using it until it stops working!
Hey Pinkacross! I’ve made a Hydrapple team that I’ve really liked using and I’d like to know what you think about it. I have two versions but I’ll send the first one. I am having a lot of trouble with pokemon like primarina and iron valiant, as they often force a Tera on my Hydrapple if they place correctly. Here is the team, I was thinking of replacing maybe dragapult or Lokix, but still wanting to keep the volt turn core with Rotom. https://pokepast.es/717c15d7f82a08f6
    Ominous Void
    Ominous Void
I couldn’t write it on the message above, but I did change Lokix for slowking galar and made pult banded, but stall still feels like a weird matchup to me after those changes so I’m not sure if the changes were correct.
    Would this team be viable?

    https://pokepast.es/9ba6c546edf89361

I love Frosmoth and I wanted to build a snow team around it to make it tanky with the def boost from snow and ice scales + quiver dance. I do worry about priority though.

I switched tusk for treads because hatterene was rough
    Pinkacross
    Pinkacross
I would recommend fully comitting to the Hyper Offense, a Frosmoth in the middle of a balance team is generally not a good idea due to how inconsistent it is.
    Pinkacross

I explain that further in this video:
Back again for the third time I have an idea to use scarfed Tera psychic indeedee with expanding force and psychic surge

Would this work in ou? (It one shots dozo after spikes)

I've tried it, didn't get it working but I do think its viable!

Hey Pinkacross, I tried building a team centered around darkrai but I have been struggling with bulky offence teams could you suggest some improvements to the team
    https://pokepast.es/3b185919d67fdf6d
    Pinkacross
    Pinkacross
Lack of immediate power may be the problem. I'd recommend slapping a Choice Specs / Band on either Meowscarada, Darkrai, or Ival. You could do Specs Ival, for example, and keep the rest as is.
What are your favorite things about SV OU as a metagame?
    Pinkacross
    Pinkacross
I like how there are a lot of super crazy powerful pokemon. Not a fan of Tera for the most part, but I love that you can slap a band/specs on something, Tera into a STAB type, and just blow everything up
Could umbreon be viable in ou? I really like it as a mon and it's really low usage, but I think it could function as a wish passer like mola.
    Pinkacross
    Pinkacross
I would say it might be viable not sure. It probably is! Not an amazing Wish passer, but Foul Play is a really good move to have. Wish Tect Foul Play Toxic/Twave is the best set for sure, physdef imo.
Back again with another question. I’m planning on making a balance hazard stack team with my fave pokemon sandy shocks and I wanna know what teammates it likes - the curious moss in your basement
Hey man, I moved on from Showdown months ago, but I just wanted to say I'm glad your community is still going strong! Thanks for everything bro
    Pinkacross
    Pinkacross
Thanks for the kind message! :D
Hey pinkacross you have an idea for what supporting pokemon snorlax would like in the current meta of s/v ou. - from the clump of moss growing in the corner of your basement
    Moss/chaotic
    Moss/chaotic
    Aguav berry too
    Pinkacross
    Pinkacross
For a Snorlax in SV OU, I'd probably go CB 4 attacks or Curse Rest EQ Body Slam... Neither are great. If you want to go with that set, probably go Tera Fire to avoid burns. I really wouldn't advise that though. As for supporters, light screen and reflect on Hyper Offense will probably be best. Not good, but best.

Grassy Terrain might also be good, help give lax some passive healing.
    Moss/chaotic

Thanks I’ll try it out - the happy moss pile in your basement
