Hmm... I've got a Shiny Rhyhorn that I caught on Victory Road in Crystal, and a Shiny Pidgey that I caught in Fire Red. I missed out on a shiny wurmple thanks to a critical hit. :(

Actually, I wouldn't worry about Skill Swapping on Rhyperior at all. Stone Edge won't get more crit as High Critical moves aren't a %Effect, which is what Serene Grace doubles. Getting hit by Earthquake on the other hand - that's a bit more worrying.

Because it's still quite counterable. Any 2v2 team worth it's salt will have protect somewhere. Plus plenty of things resist it (Especially with the 75% damage thing in DP, it's not as scary). Oh and Ghosts lol.

Uh, none of those items exist in Advance. <_<; In Advance you've basically got the choice of Leftovers and Choice band as reliable items, plus a handful of decent 'hax' items.

I'm sorry, but this point bugs me. A professional athlete will be better than an amateur, because they spend more time on it. You aren't removing any disparity whatsoever with competitor. Those with more time will spend more time battling on competitor compared to those who don't have as much...

I thought the game did 3-4 RNG checks for a capture, not just one? If so it would explain why the capture rate of things is much lower than it is...
