ORAS OU 1st Post/1st Competitive Team

Hi

Looking to see what you guys think of the below team. So far it has only been used in Wifi battles, won some/lost some. Unsure if it can be easily improved or if there is maybe 1/2 changes which could be made to boost the teams strengths

I have read over the forum rules so hope i'm not posting anything out of place or if its in the wrong place please feel free to giving me a telling off!

Sylveon @ Leftovers
Ability: Pixilate
EVs: 252 HP / 240 Def / 16 Spe
Bold Nature
- Calm Mind
- Substitute
- Baton Pass
- Hyper Voice

Used as a baton passer. Setup with substitue/calm mind and then can spam hyper voice before baton passing to something else with the stat boosts.
Can take a hit fairly well and as long as I can predict what they opponent will do, shouldn't get hit with a super effective atack.
Still require a held item however given that Skarmory takes the Leftovers in the team and this would usually be what I give to Sylveon

Gardevoir @ Gardevoirite
Ability: Trace
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
- Hyper Voice
- Calm Mind
- Psychic
- Shadow Ball

Fills the slot of the mega, wanted to include one and this seemed to fill the spot based on my other members types.
Usually using calm mind/psychic however hyper voice hits hard when mega evolved. Shadow Ball is used to give it a little extra diversity.
Could be replaced by another mega on the team however unsure what would compliment the rest?

Skarmory @ Leftovers
Ability: Sturdy
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 Spe
Impish Nature
- Roost
- Brave Bird
- Stealth Rock
- Whirlwind

Mostly used as a hazard setup/tank. Can take a hit and do status damage
Was advised to change brave bird for Toxic which might help this tactic however currently I setup stealth rocks and whirlwind for damage.
Roost is used to keep health up whilst whittling away at the opponents and generally cause an annoyance.

Chansey (F) @ Eviolite
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Bold Nature
- Soft-Boiled
- Seismic Toss
- Heal Bell
- Toxic

Used as the wall of my team, try and switch Chansey into attacks which I see coming, then used Toxic/Heal to keep my health up and again whittle away at the opponents.
Seismic Toss is used to do some damage, always like having at least 1 attacking move in the moveset.
Never been the best at using this type of pokemon however and feel I could be using it incorrectly

Nidoking (M) @ Choice Specs
Ability: Sheer Force
EVs: 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
- Earth Power
- Ice Beam
- Sludge Wave
- Shadow Ball

Special sweeper of the team. Either use Blaziken or Magic Bounce Espeon to baton pass stat boosts onto it before sweeping.
Earth Power hits for alot of damage and Ice Beam/Sludge Wave/Shadow Ball give it great coverage. Shadow Ball is the least used of the moves though and could possibly be switched out as Gardevoir usually covers this
Does alot of damage but (either by luck/poor play) Seems to go down far too easily.

Haxorus @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Mold Breaker
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Earthquake
- Dragon Claw
- Superpower
- Poison Jab

Physical Sweeper of the team. If I can get Haxorus setup properly it can be a monster.
Hitting hard with Earthquake/Dragon Claw. Poison Jab gives coverage against Fairy Types (If I can outspeed them) and Superpower is there for a 1 hit at the end of the match.
Usually wins the game for me if I can keep it until later in the match.

Any help someone can give would be greatly appreciated

Thanks!

Hi, and welcome to Smogon :)

Unfortunately by RMT rules you need around 3 lines of description per Pokemon explaining what it does, why you use it, etc. or the thread may be locked. I would suggest adding that in.
As for the team, though, it seems pretty solid, although there are improvements. The first would be Toxic > Brave Bird on Skarmory. Coming off of Skarmory's unimpressive Attack, even with Brave Bird's high base power, it generally won't be doing much damage. Toxic lets Skarmory wear down Pokemon much better (especially defensive Pokemon). It doesn't affect steel types, but those are generally not very threatened by Brave Bird either.
On Nidoking, you definitely want to put those EVs in Speed as opposed to HP. This makes the most of Nidoking's decent base 85 speed and let's it outspeed (and nail) as many things as possible, such as Excadrill and Mega Altaria. If possible a Timid nature is, in a similar vein, a bit of an improvement. Especially with specs, Nidoking doesn't need the extra power. Also, Shadow Ball doesn't give that much important coverage and Flamethrower>Shadow Ball to hit important things less scared by Earth Power like opposing Skarmory and Ferrothorn.

Thanks for your advice!

Will remove Roost on Skarmory and replace with Toxic & Remove Shadow Ball on Nidoking and replace with Flamethrower since I've had to remove Blaziken due to OU ban.

Replaced him in the meantime with Sylveon, using it instead as a baton passer and should hopefully do a similar job!

Welcome to Smogon
I don't know why you are using sylevion, but Celebi is clearly the better batton passer. And also, haxorus has no use in ou.It doesn't have a setup move, and yet you said it's a sweeper.I don't see a reason on why you would want a dragon sweeper on you team. But if you really want dragon, dragonite is a good choice, although talonflame is clearly the better choice.Third, you are using an offensive team as you say.Chansey has 0 use in offense. This replacing chansey with starmie is a good choice, considering talonflame/dragonites stealth rock weakness. And like Tiki said, using flamethrower in nidoking is better. Also, never use specs on nidoking, use life orb.
Talonflame
Ability: Gale Wings
EVs: 80 HP / 252 Atk / 4 Def / 4 SpD / 168 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Acrobatics
- Flare Blitz
- Swords Dance
- Roost
Nidoking @ Life Orb
Ability: Sheer Force
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Earth Power
- Sludge Wave
- Ice Beam
- Flamethrower
Celebi @ Leftovers
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 HP / 156 Def / 80 SpD / 20 Spe
Bold Nature
- Recover
- Calm Mind
- Giga Drain
- Baton Pass
Starmie @ Life Orb
Ability: Analytic
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Rapid Spin
- Hydro Pump
- Psychic
- Ice Beam

Hi!

I actually made a few changes last night whilst playing, one was to swap Haxorus for Dragonite, seems to work much better as a sweeper with Dragon Dance.

Never actually used Celebi so might give that a shot later, think that's what my teams missing at the moment. Updated team for just now is

Skarmory @ Leftovers
Ability: Sturdy
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 Spe
Impish Nature
- Roost
- Toxic
- Stealth Rock
- Whirlwind

Breloom @ Life Orb
Ability: Technician
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 Spe / 4 Def
Adamant Nature
- Spore
- Bullet Seed
- Mach Punch
- Swords Dance

Played against him several times, seemed to cause me a lot of problems so decided to give him a try. Enjoying him very much, either leading with him or Skarmory, using Spore/Swords Dance followed by Mach Punch, seems to be working well

Chansey (F) @ Eviolite
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Bold Nature
- Soft-Boiled
- Seismic Toss
- Heal Bell
- Toxic

Dragonite @ Choice Band
Ability : Multiscale
Evs: 252 Atk / 252 Spe / 4 Hp
Adamant Nature
- Outrage
- Dragon Dance
- Earthquake
- Fire Punch

Works as a much better sweeper than Haxorus, possibly as you said I was using Haxorus incorrectly.

Been messing around with the last 2 slots but currently have Excadrill (mostly as a rapid spinner) and Rotom-Wash.

Could possibly swap both of them for Starmie/Celebi and maybe balance the team a little more.

Use Focus Punch on breloom rather than swords dance, breloom doesn't have the bulk to set up.It also has a good synergy with spore.
If you're using dragonite, use the dragon dance variant.
Like I said before chansey is not for offensive teams.
Excadrill is also a great spinner like starmie.

I'll give focus punch a try yeah

Chansey was supposed to be someone I could switch into and could take an attack, clear status conditions will heal bell and whittle away with Seismic Toss

Definitely going to give Starmie a try though, think that'll work well

Celebi @ Leftovers

Sir, Haxorus has DD.

My plan was to use Dragon Dance on Haxorus, messed that up with the moves in the previous post

Never felt like I could ever get it setup though, feel Dragonite gives me more options

Hey, dude! Welcome to smogon! I'll do this in an easy to follow list format. I'm tight on time so lets keep this short!

1. I would replace slyveon with celabi, as it can use baton pass, it's more useful in the meta and you already have a fairy type with pixellate + hyper voice + calm mind.

2. I would tweak the set on gardevoir, as the moves you have don't hold much competitive value

3. I would change specs nidoking to life orb nidoking, because you already have a choice user and it does enough damage with life orb sheer force alone

Thats it really. Heres the finished team:
http://pastebin.com/xf3YtP4V

Much appreciated :)

Just sat down to play some at the moment so will give that a try, at the moment just tweaking a few members here and there to try and find something which works for me

Hmmm..... You said that you usually use blaziken (which is banned) or ESPeon (Its not in the RMT :/) so yeah. Also i would always go with timid gardevoir always because (sadly) in competitive battlin 100 bass speed is slow.
For Haxorus I would go lum berry instead because now you got the same speed as if you were scarfed and if you set up on a rotom-w and they willowisp you you dont get burned b/c of t he berry and you can OHKO back with eq since you got mold breaker. Hope this helps but yeah. If i were you i would probably lead with haxorus and do as much damage as u can and then stall w/ the skarm chancey core and then sweep again with sylveon/gardevoir.

Yeah sorry I had a bit of a play about with the team not long after posting so included magic bounce Espeon for a while, just didn't add it onto the RMT

Since posting I have changed the majority of the team tbh lol! Got what I think is a more rounded team these days and seem to be winning a lot more matches

Ferrothorn @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Iron Barbs
EVs: 252 HP / 88 Def / 168 SpD
Relaxed Nature
IVs: 0 Spe
- Gyro Ball
- Stealth Rock
- Leech Seed
- Thunder Wave

Standard build. Usually try and get it out early to get stealth rocks setup and chip away with Gyro Ball.
Switch between him and Heatran, still unsure who actually works better.

Scizor-Mega @ Scizorite
Ability: Technician
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Bullet Punch
- Swords Dance
- Superpower
- Bug Bite

Mega of the team these days, normally just use swords dance/bullet punch to everything which isn't resistant.
Have sweeped a good few teams after getting rid of Talonflame etc

Talonflame @ Sharp Beak
Ability: Gale Wings
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Brave Bird
- Flare Blitz
- Swords Dance
- Roost

Following on advice from an earlier poster, decided to give Talonflame another shot. Can usually eliminate at least 2 opponents
Comes in, hits hard with Brave Bird/Flare Blitz and then gets destroyed. Alot of stealth rocks about these days though so becoming tougher to use.

Weavile @ Life Orb
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Knock Off
- Icicle Crash
- Ice Shard
- Low Kick

I have never used/considered using Weaville before....regret that alot now! It's a beast for me.
Outspeeds alot, has good coverage with Low Kick/Knock Off and has proirity with Ice Shard, won matches for me itself!

Garchomp @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Rough Skin
EVs: 240 HP / 176 Def / 92 Spe
Impish Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Earthquake
- Dragon Tail
- Fire Blast

Still hanging around....mostly because I cant find much to replace him in the team!
Will give the lum berry a shot as noted above, rocky helmet/rough skin is nice if I can switch into a resistant physical attack.

Tentacruel @ Black Sludge
Ability: Liquid Ooze
EVs: 248 HP / 244 Def / 16 Spe
Timid Nature
- Rapid Spin
- Toxic
- Scald
- Protect

Switch between Tentacruel/Starmie as the spinner of the team.
Feel Tentacruel can last a bit longer and can stall/toxic a few opponents, also has the occasional burn with Scald.

Doing much better with the above team compared to what I had !

Appreciate all the help given on this forum....allowed me to build a much better team :)
