2010 music

No mention of deerhunter yet? I've been listening to it since it's leaked and it's pretty good actually. I'm loving pretty much all of the tracks so far with standouts like earthquake, desire lines, and helicopter. I really recommend it so far.

I need to raid this thread for recommendations. I've been slacking on the new music front lately. Keep up the good suggestions guys!

Actually I think I downloaded that one but it slipped over my head for some reason, I'll go listen now.

Steel Train has a new album out, gonna check that out.

new deerhunter and no age arrived from amazon today and i set aside some time to given them a proper listen, having got back from school early, so impressions:

both albums will definitely be growers, but halcyon digest stood out to me more. i was hoping i'd be a bit more into both of them after the pitchfork reviews, but i found everything in between a little samey in places, similar to nouns. it started and ended really strongly, but i lost interest in the middle a little. i still find no age a little too simplistic in a lot of places where they aren't melting your face like in their best tracks (teen creeps, fever dreaming etc), and there a few of those moments on here, mostly towards the start and end like i said, but on the whole it didn't amaze me. on a first impression, id probably go with a strong 7/10, but i can definitely see this one growing on me.

halcyon digest is way more than i can wrap my head around in one listen, but i fucking loved it for almost the entire album with the exception of a couple of tracks, which felt a bit hollow and throwaway, like the final track, which definitely did not need to be 7 minutes long. also, hearing helicopter again in the context of the story that inspired it (which is printed in the liner notes) was really affecting. that track is so goddamn beautiful ;(

(for those who don't know, the story is a true story about a young russian boy who gets wrapped up in the world of prositution, where a russian crime lord develops an obsession with him, which eventually culminates in him being kidnapped and held as a sex slave for several years, before he kills himself by jumping out of a helicopter. it was really moving stuff, i recommend people find the story and read it while listening to that track)

halcyon would be a strong 8/10, but again, i expect it'll grow on me a whole lot.

the Walkmen's new album, Lisbon, is great. the music is a lot more...triumphant?...I can't quite think of the word to describe it. there's a bit of a surf-rock vibe around it which I really like. "Blue as Your Blood" is quite an awesome song.

for rap, I like Curren$y's album Pilot Talk. the beats are awesome and kind of remind me of old-school Manny Fresh: live instruments, awesome bass (fyi: Juvenile's 400 Degreez is a must-listen for any bass guitar enthusiast).

excited about Deerhunter and No Age, but Cosmogramma is still the best album this year by a mile.

For anyone that like celtic inspired music, such as Dropkick Murphy's or Flogging Molly, there is a canadian band that is touring right away here and releasing an album as well.

The first song is clearly a polka song which is really good, surprisingly. They are really awesome.

Leaked Yeezy track: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-80eGcDlpcc

the GOOD Friday tracks have been pretty great so far... Lost in the World is awesome ridiculously awesome [link above]. Can't wait to hear the final version. Man, this album is going to be killer considering some great tracks like Monster and So Appalled didn't make the final cut lol.

Finally Hearing Enslaved's new album. I have'nt heard any past material by these guys but there new album is some solid progressive black metal.

but YES this album will be amazing and he tweeted last night that it's finished and being mixed by 4 engineers so it can be finished as quickly as possible apparently. hopefully it'll drop before november

Yeah it sounded pretty rough, but just imaging the final version... Yes. Genius use of Bon Iver sample, too. I really hope it is out before November! Come on, Mid/End-October-ish time.

Utada Hikaru is really a singles collection (Volume 2), which also comes with 5 brand new songs (:happybrain:) before she goes on hiatus for ~year ;( Sucks, but I hope that means new music in 2012 then?! Ha. Can't wait to hear the tracks, one of them is a cover of Edith Piaff's "Hymne a l'Amour". Gotta wait till Nov. 24th, unfortunately.

Post-hardcore giants Chiodos' have their new album streaming and you can find it for download, but it's pretty bad, their new vocalist has talent but not the same presence, and musically it's just a mess, not worth looking into IMO.

Steel Train is awesome, anyone who likes Fun. should definitely look into it, you can totally hear the guitarists influence.

Bought the new Deerhunter. BLOWING MY MIND MAN. I'm gonna whore Helicopter more than I whored Dance Or Die this year.

james blakes new klavierwerke ep stands up to the cmyk ep pitchfork bnm'd earlier this year, imo. this guy and flying lotus are two pretty exciting producers at the moment.

more of a headphones listen, since it's abit fuzzier and more minimalist and there isn't a track like cmyk which is a clear standout, but just really pretty and considered.

oh boy good fridays are back on track, this is more like it.

i cant even comprehend how good this album will be. i need to stop listening to these tracks though or else nothingll be a surprise when the album drops

holy balls, after five years of claiming writers block and existential crises and writing symphonies about expressways and general dicking around, sufjan stevens releases not one but two albums (i'm counting all delighted people as an album cause its 60+ minutes long) in the span of a month. he is actually a crazy person. not that i'm complaining. i am so totally in love with his new direction and the album age of adz. i was resistant at the very beginning, but after a couple of listens i am seriously seriously digging it. all delighted people is imo one of the best songs he's ever done. i'm not going to say i like it more than illinois because i don't, i definitely think illinois is a better album, but that doesnt stop the age of adz from being an incredible weird album that im going to be spending a shitload of time listening to.

also, i literally spat out my drink when the i'm not fucking around part started on i want to be well. i didn't know if sufjan stevens could even physically curse.

check out Everything Everything - Man Alive , quality album, indie synthy rock with a real twist - favourite album of the year so far. Youtube "Schoolin' " if ya want. (also the album i robbed the artwork from for my avatar :) )

really enjoying twin shadow's forget, i get alot of beach house kind of vibes in the way that thing sounds and is just consistently strong the whole way through.

I'm listening and this is pretty awesome, it's kinda got a Minus the Bear feel but very different at the same time. I wouldn't be surprised if this grew on me in a big way.
