2010 music

Heartsrevolution's debut Ride Or Die is semi-set for a release 11/10/10. I'm hella excited this duo is finally releasing an album!

Website: http://heartsrevolution.com/zine/
Check out their videos, they have instrumental clips of some of their songs ("Teenage Teardrops", "YSL", "Valentine", "Brilliante").

Also minor update: Finally Sleigh Bell's Tell 'Em single is on iTunes. Remastered Holly (B-side, was first of their 2HELLWU EP) got a Infinity Guitars-esque power boost and is went from really awesome to like HOL[L]YFUCK AWESOME :D

oh man, been listening to Jamey Johnson's new double album all weekend.

yeah it's country. and yeah...it's fucking awesome.

I'm listening and this is pretty awesome, it's kinda got a Minus the Bear feel but very different at the same time. I wouldn't be surprised if this grew on me in a big way.

Nice to hear dude, trying to go see them next time they play London - shows are selling out fast at the moment.

Also, is it bad that I ONLY JUST discovered Sufjan? I know he is pretty unheard of in the UK, but my god, he is just great. I have a serious mancrush on that man.

Yeah Idunno so after a few listens, Everything Everything's album is pretty good but there are a few tracks on there that completely blow the others out of the water, which is kind of sad.

definitely check out the new Intronaut everyone

awesome sludge/prog

Sludge isn't really my thing but this is pretty cool, downloading now.

guess i'll weigh in

the suburbs really resonated with me when it came out. rode my bike to it all the time and i remember nearly crying to 'we used to wait' at points. i've listened to it at least 50 times. from what i hear, critics are calling it 'the ok computer of this decade.' that's some high praise, but you know, i don't think that's too much for this album. took me a few listens to get in but as happens with albums that don't immediately click, they get better and better with each listen (unless they're just not my vibe at all, but i usually know that pretty quickly).

halcyon digest was also a repeat listen clicker. definitely a top this year. whoever said he didn't like 'we used to laugh': that's probably my favorite track. just saying. now that i know the story behind helicopter all of the copter remixes i've been vibing on seem a little bit... irreverent. but i guess that's a remix for you. this album gets 5 out of 5 sivenses.

everything in between by no age seems like another clicker, but i've only listened to it through like twice. i know i like it, i just don't know how much. i can't deny that it's good though.

kanye: christian dior denim flow omg, monster omg. nicky minaj's verse, okay? fuckin RAW.

new zach hill (face tat), just picked it up and listened to it this morning a little bit. i liked it, but then again i was on speed and i liked everything. BUT this is probably good -- zach's otherworldly on the drums, check this out if you like lightning bolt and shit like that.

um, what else... got the new avey tare, haven't listened to it yet. got the new how to dress well, haven't listened to it yet. oh yeah -- KING NIGHT guys. witch housewitch haus which howswhich house. salem is like satanic dubstep or something. whompin.

i've been looking for good new 'fall' music i guess, because like, i don't want to listen to modest mouse another 100 times. cymbals eat guitars is something like what i'm talking about -- sprawling, dynamic rock that makes you feel simultaneously nostalgic and excited about going somewhere. so if you have found anything like that, let me know.

i feel like my writing is really stilted in this post but that's okay because i've been writing papers all weekend and i am 'over writing.'

to conclude this post here is memoryhouse (an absolutely beautiful 'chillwave' band, check out the years EP if you like feeling relaxed at the beach at night) covering my bloody valentine's 'when you sleep' -- this video melts my heart and makes me want to kiss every girl: http://vimeo.com/15241704

My favorite album this year is Chronic Decay - Justify Your Existence. Excellent death/thrash metal, for some reason this album went unreleased since it was recorded back in '94. Makes no sense to me, this thing kills.

Love the new Digital Mystikz joint, their hiatus felt like eternity. Malory and School of Seven Bells have put out some of my favs from this year too. Ulrich Schnauss put out a great collaboration with Jonas Munk from Manual, I think you can still download it for free, it's a digital-only release so far. Great year for all the styles of music I follow.

Hurts' album is ehh, decent I suppose. I couldn't get into to much, and it just kinda... Blends away. Maybe I'll rediscover it someday (Probably not).

Still listening to Forget because I kinda forgot about it in a rush to listen to everything. It's getting a bit "ehh it's a chore to listen" but I really like some of the songs and want to give it another chance.

Bunch of new additions... I totally forgot about Salem, and that whole "omg witch house" movement went over my head so to speak (aka, no fucks were given about ~witch house~). But then I remember that "King Night" was a really awesome song and I was kinda excited for their LP back in the day, so WHAT THE HELL.

Narsha, Narsha, Narsha. Self-titled debut mini-album by, uh, Narsha (1/4 of girl group Brown Eyed Girls). Pretty interesting KPop, and at first I was like ehhh but it's a real grower with some interesting and infectiously catching tracks. Too bad it's so short, but oh well. It's a whole bunch of awesome. Ga-In's solo I have yet to listen to, but it's on my ipod ready for my ears. Apparently it has a lot of Spanish / latin influence... That should be interesting.

I dunno who or what Caribou is but my friend told me to check out so. And I just wanted to check out Zola Jesus because I enjoyed the album cover and she has some interesting sounds. It's kinda like Fever Ray, if Fever Ray wasn't so dark and gloomy aesthetically... But at the same time, not really. ~_~ Hard to articulate what I mean...

Good to see someone gets Teenage Dream is "meh". My radio station plays it ALL THE TIME.

I'm sure everyone around here agrees that teenage dream is terrible. (California Girls is still a guilty pleasure, that music video is just so hot goddamn <____<)

<___________________________________<

Anyway, I'm going to look into Alter Bridge's newest album, some people have even referred to it as prog-metal which is... well shocking to be honest, but I'm looking forward to it even more as a result.

As far as to-be-released things go, this year's kinda petering out (didn't I say that like a month ago?) but there's still Lupe, Architecture in Helsinki and the Age of Rockets in tow, so that's cool, but alot of artists are pushing there albums back for 2011 releases like Gaga, Panic! at the Disco and such, I guess there's a Rise Against album coming out too, eh.

I think I've listened to about 400 albums from this year now.. and the list of what I still have to listen to is huge

way behind the times on talking about them but new belle and sebastian and sufjan arrived in the post today (since im a lovely, moral person and bought them) and write about love is looking like a year-end lister already. the whole thing is just one big, lovely hug <3

will edit with thoughts about age of adz once i listen to it

edit: oh man, pretty excited by age of adz. sufjan absolutely makes the new direction work, but theres still plenty of the sufjan we know and love there too. wasnt sure how id feel about these two, but im loving both a whole lot right now.

october music delivers!

i had a lot to say about write about love, it's kind of like if xx was a bit more distant, that's a bad thing but the album while never daring is always darling

not hearing the xx comparison at all tbh. theres isnt a lot i could compare the xx to :/

(ps the fact they won the mercury prize is awesome since theyre actually pretty big here in the uk now. im seeing tv ads and facebook messages about it, which is awesome, but let's hope they don't go too pop in the future :x )

edit: i wish write about love had come out earlier this year so it couldve been the perfect summer record. she and hims volume two was almost perfect, but the second half was kind of boring. this thing would have been the perfect soundtrack to warm summery days if it had come out in june <3

(zooey deschaniel needs to get on a belle and sebastian track. that would be absolutely perfect.)

Wishy, check out Dead Fader.

you will splooge.

thanks for the recommendation! I did a quick playthrough of a couple tracks, and I'm really getting hooked on it.

King Knight wasn't as good as I thought it would be. And I saw some live videos... It's just, confusing to say the least. When they try to do their bigger songs, they just sound half-there, half-not. And honestly the front man isn't a very good rapper lol, which is easily masked on the album and distorted rapping sounds cool on a track like Trapdoor, when you hear it live it's like... Oh, so he is actually going to rap now? It's just two different worlds. Salem live vs. Salem studio.

Been listening to LP4 by Ratatat, good stuff, but not their best by a long-shot. Just got the new Belle and Sebastian I got a listen in earlier today, and I'm loving I Want The World To Stop, need to listen to this album more.

Jamey Johnson may very well crack open country music for me. his new double disc album is fucking awesome. had that bitch on repeat all weekend.

new Metaform is pretty damn slick.

The Chariot failed to do anything they haven't already done 3 times.

Njiqhadda released a free covers EP that's quite interesting (Neurosis, Burzum, Velvet Cacoon and Deftones).

the Hammock EP was enjoyable.

My Epic is actually a local band that's been making some waves around the internet this year. i finally got to their album and FUCK it's awesome. really kinda blew me away. HRIYL Circa Survive, Thrice, Tides of Man, et cetera.

new Cepalic Carnage is worth listening to if you're a fan of their other stuff.

new Midlake sounds like a not-as-interesting Espers minus Meg Baird (in otherwords, a less-good Espers).

My Carrion Friend was cool, got that whole doomy shoegaze thing going on that i like. i look forward to hearing a full length from him.

Wavves is fun, but forgettable.

Thranenkind's new EP is QUITE awesome. nothing makes me happier than solid atmospheric depressive black metal done right. ;)

that's the highlights from the past couple weeks.
