Metagame 350 Cup

Hi all! This is my first post but I just love this Metagame and have been trying to keep up with some of the stuff going on. One set I've been looking at is Mankey.

1571615362647.png

Mankey @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Defiant
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Close Combat
- Earthquake
- Ice Punch/Fire Punch/Night Slash
- Gunk Shot/Poison Jab/Rock Slide

252 Atk Mankey Close Combat vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Cranidos: 380-450 (80.5 - 95.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252 Atk Mankey Close Combat vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Ferroseed: 212-252 (55.7 - 66.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
252 Atk Mankey Close Combat vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Abra: 155-183 (50.9 - 60.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252 Atk Mankey Night Slash vs. 0 HP / 0+ Def Abra: 400-472 (165.9 - 195.8%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Mankey very much suffers from 4 move slot syndrome but can fit on many teams with a varied set. Close Combat is the go-to move and can damage much of the metagame, even one-shotting a lot of things. No one runs max defense Abra or Cranidos and Mankey can easily outspeed both and one-shot them with non-max sets. Any suggested add ons are appreciated and hope to see more of this metagame going forward!

The main issue I have with this set is that it practically has no niche over Choice Scarf Mienfoo, which has Knock Off over Night Slash to be more disruptive, plus more bulk and power.

Mienfoo @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- High Jump Kick
- U-turn
- Knock Off
- Poison Jab

Try this out; see how you find it!

when is the suspect results getting revealed?
also to prevent one-liner post I will post some ideas

Don't Bully Me (Rowlet) @ Leftovers
Ability: Long Reach
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Leaf Blade
- Roost
- Brave Bird
- Sucker Punch

basically beats nothing.

Killer 2.0 (Mewtwo-Mega-Y) @ Mewtwonite Y
Ability: Pressure
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Aura Sphere
- Shadow Ball
- Psystrike
- Ice Beam

mega mew2 y is underrated. It can easily kill cranidos, abra, ferroseed, gastly, mienfoo, cubone and more

And with that, I think it's rather obvious at this point, but Cranidos will not be banned. It received a unanimous vote, making this decision even more obvious.

Now that it's been said, I know it's very late in the metagame's life for this month, but I hope everyone enjoyed this metagame! I know I certainly have. It's a bit disappointing that not much action was taken during the month, outside of the Pawniard quick ban and the Cranidos test, but I'm happy that those actions were taken.

I will work on what resources I can and put them up so we have a final and more accurate VR for the end of gen 7. I will be accepting some help with that, but otherwise, this was a fun metagame to play!

Why would I run zero speed Zorua? Not only does Zorua give up its ability to outpace Cranidos, it cant kill it without a boost and cant live a Stone Edge. I don't know what twisted world you live in where Zorua can be called a counter to Cranidos.

The month is coming to an end and I'm sad this means the departure of the 350 ladder, but I'll share some thoughts on the metagame and on some Pokemon I have ended up trying on the many, many teams I built for this metagame (i've seriously never built this much in the span of ~month ever since I started playing competitively in 2010).

First of all let me start by saying I did NOT expect to like an OM as much as I liked 350 and it's insane how fun and just overall nice this metagame is. I honestly am grateful whoever created this meta did so cuz it's really, really fun LOL. About the metagame itself, as an outsider looking into it maybe three or four things caught my eye: Cranidos, Gastly, Abra, and the fact that Arceus forms/pdon were allowed. And this is fair. I mean who will look at base 250 attack and 116 (which by 350 standards right now is not much btw), sheer force, and a diverse movepool (blizzard? wtf?), and NOT be surprised? Imagine my even bigger surprise later to realize it's not even close to being the best pokemon in the tier. Then there's the mandatory strong psychics/ghosts that are weak to pursuit. except in this tier it's amplified 10 times cuz fuck me gastly and abra are ridiculous and would be so broken without shit like grimer-a. they're also kinda balanced by not having focus blast lol. and finally, arceus forms/pdon. pdon is pretty great, but arceus forms from my experience have been very underwhelming. the only decent one is water and even that's kinda okay-ish, like B or B- at best.

it's been wild seeing baby mons actually being better than ubers, or ubers not even being close to the most broken mons in the tier. it's ridiculous all around and I love it

anyway, much to my surprise half my predictions turned out wrong: cranidos was underwhelming, gastly/abra are not centralizing/broken/unhealthy in any way, arceus and the lads are usable at best, and pdon wasn't as good as I expected it to be.

I already talked about cubone and grimer-a so I don't wanna delve too much into them again. I talked about natu before but I now believe this is the best set:

Natu @ Psychium Z
Ability: Magic Bounce
EVs: 204 HP / 128 Def / 176 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Calm Mind
- Psyshock
- Hidden Power Ground
- Roost

This is a more adaptive set to the meta in my opinion. psyshock lets you win cm wars and hp ground can hurt grimer-a who is a hard counter otherwise. you just need to have some prior damage on it, by having another lure or have it switch in repeatedly into hazards and having good checks/counters to it. this is the calc:

0 SpA Natu Hidden Power Ground vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Grimer-Alola: 116-138 (22.1 - 26.3%) -- 11% chance to 4HKO
+1 0 SpA Natu Hidden Power Ground vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Grimer-Alola: 174-206 (33.2 - 39.3%) -- 100% chance to 3HKO

you can hit it w/ hp ground on the switch which is delicious damage paired w/ SR and then it'll think twice about switching in again, especially cuz if it does get in and gets the 50/50 between pursuit vs knock wrong it can die. so that makes it so there's 2 layers to switching into natu and they can't do it blindly (unless its av in which case im fairly certain it always wins? but im not sure). I forgot what the speed was for (probably cranidos?) but the defense is to fare better vs ferroseed gyro ball. Natu overall is decent imo but just cuz of grimer's existence i'd probably place it around B or so.

Staravia @ Leftovers / Flyinium Z
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 HP / 240 Def / 16 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Brave Bird
- U-turn
- Roost
- Defog

Staravia @ Choice Scarf / Choice Band
Ability: Reckless
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Brave Bird
- Return
- U-turn
- Pursuit / Double-Edge

Staravia @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Intimidate / Reckless
EVs: 176 HP / 168 Atk / 164 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Brave Bird
- Return
- U-turn
- Final Gambit

Everyone knows about Staravia honestly so there isn't much to say, I'll just say its been by far the most fun mon for me to use in 350 just cuz clicking brave bird and still to this day being surprised by how much it does regardless of investment is a very refreshing feeling. It's also sometimes surprising to see how little it takes in its defensive sets.

Clefairy @ Leftovers
Ability: Magic Guard
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpA
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Moonblast
- Toxic
- Soft-Boiled
- Healing Wish

Again not much to say here, but clefable is a wonderful utility mon. You can fit in stealth rock somewhere if you need it although i dont like using it personally, clefable wants to use what little free turns it gets to try and get a toxic off or healing wish to bring a teammate back refreshed. I had a lot of games where the opponent had a team that was very weak to one of my mons, for example magnemite or grimer-a or staravia or w/e. Said mon would wreak havoc and then be brought back to life to finish its job. happens surprisingly often considering how volatile the meta is, and checks/counters are not always reliable to do their job in checking or countering that one specific mon, if you know what I mean. Sometimes the opponent relies on staravia to kill itself with recoil for example, and its check is pdon, but pdon still takes a hefty amount and you can just bring back staravia later with healing wish.

you can customize the clefable to fit whatever you want: stealth rock, spdef spread, heal bell, or anything else you want.

Scraggy @ Poisonium Z
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 240 HP / 52 Atk / 72 SpD / 144 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Knock Off
- High Jump Kick
- Poison Jab
- Dragon Dance

This is a weird spread that chazm gave me but I used it and the bulk is supposed to let it survive a moonblast from clef/spritzee, but honestly the random bulk has helped me survive so much random shit that included a fucking staravia brave bird that i did NOT expect it would live and MAN i was SHOCKED (wasn't even at full hp). i thought scraggy would be underrated but not to this degree, it was incredible to use and almost every time I was able to set up I was able to get more than one dragon dance off. it also has 3 viable abilities in shed skin, intimidate, and moxie, as well as two boosting moves in DD and bulk up which gives it like 3 or 4 different sets it can use: DD w/ rest and shed skin, DD max speed/this spread, bulk up to 1v1 some staravia variants, choice band, or a moxie set of some sorts. I've only tried this set to be fair but I'm excited to try and see what I can come up with for this mon. it's certainly a fun one to use.

Abra @ Focus Sash
Ability: Magic Guard
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Counter
- Psychic
- Hidden Power [Ground]
- Shadow Ball

this is the only viable abra set, period. counter is primarily as a lure/check for grimer-a but it also works vs random threats that ur team doesn't like. hp ground is also for grimer-a in the rare cases where u can get rid of it while still having sash intact.

Gastly @ Choice Specs
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Shadow Ball
- Sludge Wave
- Trick
- Hidden Power [Ground]

I haven't used gastly much but I also believe this is p much the only(?) viable set, I could see life orb or some substitute set but I wouldn't personally use them much cuz specs hits hard as fuck and not much in this tier resists shadow ball. there's staravia but that's wrecked by sludge wave, and if u have a staravia + ground/steel type then it's just mindgames i guess, which is the reason I don't high /that/ much high regard for gastly but it's still very much a scary threat. hp ground is the only hidden power to run for psychic and ghost types honestly.

Solosis @ Life Orb
Ability: Magic Guard
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SpA / 4 SpD
Quiet Nature
IVs: 0 Atk / 0 Spe
- Trick Room
- Psychic
- Shadow Ball
- Hidden Power [Ground]

i only used this in a handful of games and it either gets OHKO'd or it sets up TR and sweeps, no in-between. it hits harder than abra/gastly do cuz it can run modest and psychic fucking hurts. like, it fucking hurts. if only it had a tiny bit more bulk it'd be so much better but even with max hp it still gets hit really hard by most stuff :[ although once TR is up it's often gg unless they have a dedicated wall that's still at full HP.

Salamence @ Salamencite
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Def / 252 SpD
Careful Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Roost
- Refresh
- Return

on paper this looked like it could really work. it lives moonblasts, it lives ice beams, and it can roost up on ice beams even. can get up multiple dragon dances and status doesn't bother it with refresh. but i used it in exactly two games and one game i tried to set up DD vs an mmy psystrike, and it lived, but it didn't outspeed the next turn at +1 and died. the other game i don't remember what happens but i think I swept clean. anyway, after that incident with mmy I didn't use it again lol. i feel like there could be an optimized spread somewhere but idk. it seemed very underwhelming but i'd be open to the idea of exploring it again in the future.

Those are most of the mons that I tried and were surprised with/thought are really good (with the exception of mega mence). There's also mienfoo, foongus, and slowpoke, but I feel like those are self-explanatory. I wanna say though the set I found most success with with mienfoo is the defensive one Chazm posted a page back, so that's worth considering. Also the best slowpoke set I found is scald/eq/toxic/slack off, eq can hit pdon and grimer for some decent damage if you wanna go for guaranteed damage instead of fishing for burn vs grimer-a.

- Hidden Power [Ground] / Hidden Power [Fire]
- Shadow Ball / Dazzling Gleam

While not as effective with Pawniard being banned (sub was GREAT at luring out Sucker Punch), Life Orb Abra is still a very very powerful cleaner / wallbreaker. I honestly don't even value Sash Abra as a Grimer-Alola lure, due to a) that particular spread not getting the OHKO against Grimer with Counter and b) most sets handle it well by simply breaking its sash with Clear Smog, seeing that Sash Abra can't do much reasonable damage to it.

I think I thought of running substitute before but never really did after I tried sash counter cuz abra lures grimer like burnt sugar lures flies. what grimers use clear smog though? it already struggles to fit 4 moves, on band at least. does av run it?

Most SpD Grimer-As use Pursuit / Knock / Gunk or PJab / Clear Smog or Fire Punch or Shadow Sneak. And I have never seen a Band Grimer-A

That's a "misconception" in the sense that I see quite a few people run spdef/av grimer-a because of the notorious reputation muk-a has for running a spdef or av set. imo it's wrong cuz in the metagames that muk-a is used in it needs AV to live the hits its supposed to, but in 350 grimer-a doesn't. just its typing + hp stat carry it, so wish pass was usually enough for me to sustain grimer without having to need to use av, and it's quite bulky too cuz it doesn't need too much speed investment

with all that said i honestly believe this is the best grimer-a set:

Grimer-Alola @ Choice Band
Ability: Poison Touch
EVs: 140 HP / 252 Atk / 116 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Pursuit
- Knock Off
- Fire Punch
- Gunk Shot

I honestly forgot what the spdef was for but I knew it was for a certain calc. moves are customizable depending on what you need. Ice punch can be really good too to ohko vibrava

grimer-a has the strongest knock in the tier and in the rare scenarios where theres no grounds/steels left, gunk shot is just actually insane, so that should really be taken advantage of with a choice band imo

all in all i firmly believe grimer-a still does its job in checking what it checks w/o needing AV but I guess it makes it more guaranteed? I personally like the explosive power of cb though

One slight issue I have with this spread is that the HP and the Atk investments are flipped.

It should actually be this:

Grimer-Alola @ Choice Band
Ability: Poison Touch
EVs: 252 HP / 140 Atk / 116 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Poison Jab
- Knock Off
- Fire Punch
- Pursuit

Grimer does just fine without max attack investment- the spread here is meant to avoid the 2HKO from HP Ground on Abra. As bad as HP Ground is, it actually has a chance to 2HKO Grimer-A without any SpD investment with the Life Orb boost. As such, I found it crucial to avoid that, as it lives everything else from Abra. (E: Poorly worded- fixed)

On a different note, I am still seeking out help with the VR, and will also be accepting sample team, even though it’s near the end of Gen 7, I’ll have those teams to showcase 350 cup during the month.

I love Gen 5 way too much and even though 350Cup won't be playable on the main server in....2 days....I decided to list every single Gen 5 mon that gets a boost to its stats along with some moveset tips for no reason at all. please help me

yeah half of these are probably outclassed by anything else but are they from gen 5?????? yeah thats what I thought

New stats: 90/90/110/90/110/126/616
Snivy is a stronger Serperior, since it's faster, bulkier and stronger. It gets access to Contrary + Leaf Storm, as well as Defog. Its Speed isn't great, but it can run a Scarf set just like....Serperior. Its coverage sucks though.

New stats: 130/126/90/90/90/90/616
Just use Darumaka. It doesn't even get Reckless.

New stats: 110/110/90/126/90/90/616
It has some good SpA, and access Hydro Pump, Ice Beam and Air Slash. It also learns Sacred Sword, so there is potential for a mixed set.

New stats: 90/110/78/70/78/84/510
patrat sucks dont use it

New stats: 90/120/90/50/90/110/550
Lillipup has.... okay stats. Its abilies are useless, which is a shame. Just use Buneary or something.

New stats: 82/100/74/100/74/132/562
This thing is a better Liepard, and also gets access to Prankster Copycat, which is a pretty fun gimmick. Not much else it can do, though.

New stats: 100/106/96/106/96/128/632
They have the same stats, but don't have too many good moves. They're able to run mixed sets thanks to their 106/106 offenses, and can learn Nasty Plot and Work Up. Not too much coverage, though.

New stats: 152/50/90/134/110/48/584
Munna is pretty fat, but like.... Spritzee outclasses it. Munna is not a Fairy-type, but still. Just use Spritzee. Does Spritzee get Forewarn? No. But Spritzee learns Wish and Munna doesn't.

New stats: 100/110/100/72/60/86/528
pidove sucks just use doduo or staravia

New stats: 90/120/64/100/64/152/590
Blitzle will always be immune to Grass or Electric because of its abilities, which is a nice touch. Physical Blitzle is probably better because of its movepool, which is... bad. It gets Flame Charge, Low Kick (on a LC-heavy meta? yeah), Pursuit, Wild Charge and Volt Switch for pivoting.

New stats: 110/150/170/50/50/30/560
170 Def and 150 Atk are pretty good, but then you realize that this thing's got no coverage. Earthquake and Stone Edge, that's literally it. It can set up SR, though.

New stats: 130/90/86/110/86/144/646
This thing is tremendously fun to use. SubSalac CM Simple Woobat destroys teams all by itself. Your opponent thinks his Scraggy completely walls you because it's a Dark type? No. Air Slash. It doesn't hit Steel very hard, so you're going to need better coverage.

New stats: 120/170/80/60/90/136/656
Drilbur. Mold Breaker allows you to set up Rocks without having to worry about Natu giving you the middle finger, it's a spinner, it has STAB 170 Atk EQ that eats things with Levitate like Gastly. Drilbur is a funny mole and you can't stop me from using it.

New stats: 150/160/110/50/70/70/610
This thing has Sheer Force, but Guts STAB 160 Atk Mach Punch.....yes. Its 150/110 defensive bulk allows it to flex its muscles and spam Bulk Up, just don't let it near anything with good SpA.

New stats: 100/100/80/100/80/128/588
I would say that it's outclassed by Oshawott, but it has better speed and can be used on Rain teams because it gets Swift Swim. It gets Sludge Bomb/Wave, Hydro Pump, Earth Power and an immunity to Water if you run Water Absorb.

New stats: 90/106/140/80/120/84/620
I was going to praise Sewaddle for its good 90/140/120 bulk, but it has two x4 weaknesses to pretty common types, which is unfortunate considering it can set Sticky Web up. Its abilities are pretty lackluster as well, but it might have a niche on Sun teams.

New stats: 60/90/118/60/78/114/520
It's bulkier than Scolipede (which doesn't mean much), but its Attack is lower. Don't think that having access to Speed Boost is a good thing, since it has no good moves. Not even Baton Pass. Use literally anything else.

New stats: 80/54/120/74/100/132/560
It gets Prankster, Taunt, Memento, Defog, Switcheroo, Tailwind, Stun Spore, Leech Seed... it can do a great job at disrupting. It has a good bulk as well, which is definitely useful.

New stats: 90/70/100/140/100/60/560
Dear Petilil,
lol u suck why do you have like 2 good moves and none of them are named Quiver Dance just use Snivy
- Peababy

New stats: 100/144/70/70/70/130/584
Sandile is actually pretty good! It has decent coverage moves and Moxie, which is a nice ability to have. 130 Speed is not the best, but it's still respectable.

New stats: 140/180/90/30/90/100/630
Firium Z Hustle Flare Blitz. That's all I have to say. Press Inferno Overdrive to win. Darumaka is stupid fun to use and surprisingly bulky, and it has pretty nice coverage as well.

New stats: 100/130/170/70/70/110/650
Dwebble learns Shell Smash and can have Sturdy as its ability. This thing is begging you to use it.

New stats: 100/150/140/70/140/98/696
Scraggy has three nice abilities, and to be fair, it can run anything it wants. Scraggy is really versatile and very fun to use thanks to its pretty balanced stats. Defensive? Intimidate. DD? Moxie. Hotel? Trivago.

New stats: 76/60/170/110/130/60/606
Cofagrigus, but bulkier. Can also disrupt very well, since it gets Haze, Toxic Spikes, Destiny Bond, Disable, Memento and it also has Mummy. Definitely worth trying out.

New stats: 100/100/124/80/124/130/658
Trubbish definitely has its uses. It can set Spikes and Toxic Spikes, has decent recovery in Pain Split, has good Speed, can disrupt with Clear Smog or Haze, and also has Aftermath. Give this thing some love.

New stats: 80/130/80/160/80/130/660
TIL that Trubbish and Zorua have the same speed lol what
Depending on what you turn it into, it can cause your opponent to misplay and let you go for a free Nasty Plot. It doesn't get Flamethrower or Sludge Bomb, which is sad, but if you slap it on a Fighting/Poison spam team you can force your opponent into awkward 50/50s. Is that a M!Gengar or a Zorua? It's a +2 Zorua and it's coming after you. You shouldn't have clicked Psychic.

New stats: 110/100/80/80/80/150/600
Skill Link Tail Slap, yeah. No Bullet Seed. No Rock Blast. Just Tail Slap. It can't make good use of Technician as well, so... yeah. Use something else.

New stats: 90/60/100/110/130/90/580
Shadow Tag is banned, use Abra.

New stats: 90/60/80/210/100/40/580
Same SpA as Abra and better bulk, but 40 Speed... it's definitely strong on TR teams, so go check those out.

New stats: 124/88/100/88/100/110/610
Useless abilities, but it gets Defog and Roost (suck it mantyke lol). It's still not too good. Use Lugia or something.

New stats: 72/100/100/130/120/88/610
A Weak Armor set does have potential, but it's pure Ice, so it might not live long enough to sweep. It's not like it has the tools to sweep with, either. Just use Kyu-W if you want an Ice-type on your team.

New stats: 120/120/100/80/100/150/670
Deerling has Sap Sipper, but it can also be used on Sun teams since it has Chlorophyll. A really solid mon overall, and it gets TW which is pretty cool. Probably not the best item, but an AV set could work nicely with Seed Bomb/Return/Jump Kick/Wild Charge.

New stats: 100/150/90/80/90/120/630
I mean, it gets No Guard Megahorn. Drill Run, Knock Off, Poison Jab, this thing has some good potential. Slap a Choice Scarf on it and you're ready to go.

New stats: 138/100/90/110/110/30/588
It gets Regenerator and Spore. This is literally bulkier Amoonguss, there's not much for me to say.

New stats: 110/80/100/130/170/80/670
Frillish has really good Special bulk, typing and an immunity to Water if it runs Water Absorb (which you should). This thing's movepool is pretty large as well, and it can learn Will-O-Wisp so that it's even harder to shut down.

New stats: 100/94/100/114/100/130/638
Can't learn Thunder and can't learn Sticky Web. Physical Joltik might be more viable than Special, even though it has 20 less points in Atk.

New stats: 88/100/182/48/172/20/610
Ferroseed is in NU for a reason. Look at that bulk. If Ferroseed is in NU even though it has 50% of those stats, do you really think that Ferroseed is bad??????? This thing is insane. Too bad Magnemite laughs at it and murders its family.

New stats: 80/110/140/90/120/60/600
Sorry, but I'm not talking about Klink. There's nothing noteworthy about it. It has, like, 3 good moves. If you're hungry for Shift Gear then go for it, I guess.

It learns five moves. I'm not wasting my time.

New stats: 110/110/110/170/110/60/670
It might have some niche in TR teams, but it's outclassed by Solosis anyways so why would you caare

New stats: 100/60/110/130/110/40/550
Litwick sucks. I love Litwick. I am hurt. It can probably do stuff when it's Trick Room time, but when it's not you just have to cry yourself to sleep. That's just the way life is.

New stats: 92/174/120/60/80/114/640
Mold Breaker. Dragon Dance. Sweep. This thing is a killing machine. It doesn't even need a Dragon STAB. Axew will wreck you, and is probably outclassed by some other dragon. Sorry, but it's true.

New stats: 110/140/80/120/80/80/610
It gets Slush Rush!!! Pair it up with A!Vulpix or some other Hail setter and it's ready to go. It gets a bunch of strong coverage moves that can really turn this into a threat.

New stats: 100/80/170/80/130/50/610
There are better walls out there, and Bug's not the best defensive typing either. Its abilities are also useless.

New stats: 90/170/100/110/100/130/700
This thing is a total no-brainer. Slap a Choice Scarf on it and your Reckless-boosted HJK becomes a disgusting nuke. There's nothing for me to talk about here.

New stats: 118/148/100/70/100/70/606
No Guard Dynamic Punch is a thing!! I guess. It's not the best thing out there, but it's gimmicky and I like gimmicks.

Rufflet and Pawniard are banned. lol

New stats: 104/130/100/90/100/76/600
Deino has Hustle and a lot of physical moves. Slap a Rockium Z on it and click Head Smash. Its Speed is not the best so Trick Room is your best friend. If only it learned DD....

I spent three hours writing this and I want to die

but before I do that I have to tell you three things

gen 5 best

watch madoka magica

i need sleep.

bye

Monster, how should I feel?
is a Pre-Contributor
Hey everyone! Thanks so much for showing interest in 350! It’s really late in the generation, and we’ll be seeing gen 8 rolling around soon, but I wanted to say thanks for playing!

On a similar note, I have a tentative VR up, although it is far from complete, I believe it accurately shows the viability of mons in 350 for S and A ranks. The B ranks are incomplete, but might not get added because not many options were truly explored, so it can be difficult to say what belongs where in the B ranks. I will do my best to make a comprehensive list for the B ranks, if possible, though.

Some explaination for some rankings:
:Cranidos: in A - Cranidos has really underperformed to expectations, so even though people may say that it is very powerful and difficult to wall, it isn’t that way in practice, and Cranidos can actually underperform, or even fail to do much due to how much easier it is to prep for Cranidos than it is for Pawniard.
:Clefairy: and :Spritzee: one rank apart - Clefairy has really cemented itself as an amazing pokemon in 350, although Spritzee is no slouch. People seem to collectively agree that Clefairy is better, though, so Clefairy is placed higher. However, Spritzee can still provide strong support, like bigger wishes, or more offensive options, like Nasty Plot sets, or Trick Room sets. All in all, Clefairy is a superior defensive option - at the moment.
:mienfoo:’s ranking - Mienfoo was actually difficult to really accurately place. In the end, it took a majority opinion on the team of people I had for the VR to place Mienfoo in A+, although it certainly could make a case for S. However, the common measures to beat Mienfoo has also hurt it, although it also speaks of its influence.
:grimer-alola:’s ranking - Grimer-A has really cemented itself as the best mon 350 has to offer. Extremely powerful sets like Band, Specially Defensive, and more does a lot for many teams, and with how it trivializes checking Abra and Gastly like no other, it’s safe to say that it’s difficult to really properly replace, and teams absolutely need to prepare for this, since Grimer-A finds many opportunities to use Knock Off rather freely, which can be devastating on Choice Band sets.

As my final thoughts for this post, I’m happy with how this VR turned out, and I’m looking forwards to making the B ranks and making the VR better. You’re also welcome to give some opinions on the VR, if you wish! Please do justify it with some replays, if possible, though. Once again, thanks for playing 350! See you next gen, too!

Drilbur. Mold Breaker allows you to set up Rocks without having to worry about Magic Bounce, it's a spinner, it has STAB 170 Atk EQ that eats things with Levitate like Gastly.

New stats: 150/160/110/50/70/70/610
This thing has Guts and Sheer Force, but Guts STAB 160 Atk Mach Punch is just too tempting. Its 150/110 defensive bulk allows it to set Bulk Ups easily. Just don't let it near Special Attackers.

Cofagrigus, but bulkier. Can also disrupt very well, since it gets Haze, Toxic Spikes, Destiny Bond, Disable, Memento and it also has Mummy. Definitely worth trying out.

Trubbish definitely has its uses. It can set Spikes and Toxic Spikes, has decent recovery in Pain Split, has good Speed, can disrupt with Clear Smog or Haze, and also has Aftermath. Give this thing some love.

New stats: 90/60/100/110/130/90/580
Shadow Tag is banned, use Abra.

New stats: 90/60/80/210/100/40/580
Same SpA as Abra and better bulk, but 40 Speed... it's definitely strong on TR teams, so go check those out.

New stats: 124/88/100/88/100/110/610
Useless abilities, but it gets Defog and Roost (suck it mantyke lol). It's still not too good, honestly.

A really solid mon overall, and it even gets TW for team support! Probably not the best item, but AV could work nicely with Seed Bomb/Return/Jump Kick/Wild Charge.

Physical Joltik might be more viable than Special, even though it has 20 less points.

It has, like, 3 moves.

That's just the way it is.

New stats: 92/174/120/60/80/114/640
Mold Breaker. Dragon Dance. Sweep. This thing is a killing machine. It doesn't even need a Dragon STAB. Axew will wreck you, and is probably outclassed by some other dragon. Sorry, but it's probably true.

New stats: 110/140/80/120/80/80/610
It gets Slush Rush!!! Pair it up with A!Vulpix and it's ready to go.

I spent three hours writing this and I want to die

but before I do that I have to tell you three things

gen 5 best

watch madoka magica

i need sleep.

bye
Very informative post. Even gave me some new ideas to toy around with. I will say however that Elgyem’s niche over solosis is analytic-boosted psychic. If you switch something into it, it will hurt like a fucking nuke.

another thing isi dont think Axew’s outclassed. Its pretty decent cuz i dont see any other dragon dance user with better offensive stats. Never used it but i have played against it and its /okay/ butthe speed sets it back a bit cuz its still outsped by almost any scarfer cuz the most common ones are like mienfoo and staravia and they’re base 130 and 160 respectively

Also deerling’s niche is a sub+ leech seed or sub swords dance set, definitely not av :p

Your post inspired me to try out frillish and baby cofagrigus tho. They seem like they could be worth something on the more defensive teams.
