A Decent Team That Needs That *Something*

It was the year 2008. A loved teenager sat at is computer crunching numbers in his off time; thousands of attacks, weaknesses, and whole pokemon went flying through his head, for he was trying to build the greatest team of his life, while keeping a little originality. Then it struck him, a string of 6 pokemon that should, would, could work well together. and they looked like this:

230-3.png
469-3.png
448-3.png
475-3.png
110-3.png
Sadly the teen's vision was not reached, that's where you come in. Help me in my goal for total domination, without throwing together a team with the common 6.

starmie.png
"Death Star" the Starmie

Holding: Choice Specs
EVs: 252 SpA/252 Spe/6 HP
Nature: Timid
Ability: Natural Cure
~Surf
~Thunderbolt
~Ice Beam
~Trick

The Teenager invisioned a new way of opening the match with the proficiencies of ScarfGar openings dropping because of the lower Hypnosis accuracy. He seen it as an opening to create this, the Death Star. The Death Star has the normal Surf + BoltBeam attacks, but instead of using Rapid Spin or Recovery, he holds Trick, to, in theory, cripple one of the opponents pokemon. If the opening pokemon is something that Starmie just feels like Decimating, the 1.5x Special Attack from Choice Specs help it do loads of damage, and this beast can kill alot of leads.

kingdra.png
"Kingdracula" the Kingdra
Holding: Lifeorb (Open for change)
EVs: 252 Atk, 252 Spe, 6 HP
Nature: Adamant
Ability: Sniper
~Dragon Dance
~Outrage
~Waterfall
~Protect

The Teenager also noted a large change in one of his old favorites, Kingdra. Kingdra now had a very powerful dragon attack known as Outrage, tought to him by some magical tutor guy in the world of Platinum. The Teen plugged his new pokemon into his team, realizing he'd have to play to his best to get the setup allowed for this pokemon to flourish. He put Dragon Dance on the pokemon to allow it decimate opponents after only one, and be near unstoppable after 6. Outrage and Waterfall were placed on the Kingdra aswell, to damage all oncoming opponents, except a few select, with atleast nuetral STAB damage. Protect was added as a filler of the last slot, and was used by the Teen for scouting.

yanmega.png
"Yantastic" the Yanmega
Holding: Wise Glasses
EVs: 252 Spe/252 SpA/6 Def
Nature: Modest
Ability: Speed Boost
~Bug Buzz
~Hidden Power (Ground)
~Air Slash
~Protect

The Teen also realized, with his adolescent brain, that something fast that hit hard would be needed in his team, and he meant REALLY fast. He recalled that a Yanmega with the build shown above reaches 433 speed after the use of Protect. He quickly threw Yanmega into his team and didn't look back. He put 0 EVs in HP, to ensure that Yanmega could switch into Stealth Rocks a whole twice without dying. He put Bug Buzz and Airslash on for STAB, and put Hidden Power (Ground) there to avoid being walled by every steel ever made. Protect was there to boost said speed in a free turn.

lucario.png
"Anubis" the Lucario
Holding: Choice Band
EVs: 252 Atk/252 Spe/6 HP
Nature: Adamant
Ability: Inner Focus
~Extreme Speed
~Bullet Punch
~Close Combat
~Earthquake

Lucario was an unsure addition to the Teen's team. The Teen knew he needed more priority, but didn't know what to add. He asks you all for your help in this slot. Extreme Speed is his first choice at Priority, but is resisted by many. Bullet Punch is resisted by a few less, and can hit ghosts, so that was added to the set aswell. Close Combat and Earthquake, presuming they hit the intended target, will put a large dent in most things.

gallade.png
"Ninja?" the Gallade
Holding: Leftovers
EVs: 252 HP/252 SpD/6 Atk
Nature: Careful
Ability: Steadfast
~Drain Punch
~Zen Headbutt
~Shadow Sneak
~Wish

The predicament was this: the Teen needed a physical attacking Special Wall. He had to mix and match and make his own set, coming up with this. Drain Punch, increasing the survivablility of Gallade; Zen Headbutt, a strong STAB to abuse; Shadowsneak, because if he couldn't switch in on Gengar, he could atleast revenge kill him; and Wish, because any real wall needs to beable to heal.

weezing.png
"Pirate?" the Weezing
Holding: Black Sludge
EVs: 252 Def/252 SpA/6 Spe
Nature: Bold
Ability: Levitate
~Flamethrower
~Will-O-Wisp
~Hidden Power (Ground)
~Pain Split

The teen had admired this pokemon from afar, wondering why it suffered a lack of popularity. He decided to throw it on his team for the purposes of a physical wall, Scizor counter, Heracross counter, and physical Lucario counter. He was surprised at the success it had. He put Flamethrower and Will-O-Wisp, to work down the pokemon he was chosen to counter. Hidden Power (Ground) to prevent those bullying Heatrans from switching in, and Painsplit to heal Weezing.

More to come...

try not to make requests like these. if heatran end up fitting perfectly into the team im not sure why thats a problem! not using pokemon because they are popular (aka good) is not the attitude we have here at smogan!!

ill check back

I wouldn't mind adding, say "one" of the common six, I just refuse to have my team consist of ALL of the common six.

Ok team looks pretty good. I have a few concerns/suggestions though.

First off, you may want to run Stone Edge over Earthquake on Lucario, so you can actually hit Salamence/Gyarados, 2 of the most common switch ins. I'm not to sure that this team can really deal with DD Outrage mences, so I'm gonna suggest a Mamoswine over Lucario? He brings the same offensive precense, has the ability to "revenge" kill Salamence. And he has a Priority move, which you were looking for.

Also, you may want to try this Kingdra Moveset that RaikouLover recommended to me.

Kingdra @ Leftovers
Nature: Adamant
EVs: 180 HP / 212 Atk / 116 Spe
*Waterfall
*Outrage / Return
*Dragon Dance
*Substitute

Substitute prevent status, and is bulky enough to at least get a DD or 2 off. Return is just in case you don't want to get stuck being locked into a single move for 2-3 turns.

Well that's just my two-cents, hope you take it into consideration.

WOW, Mamoswine is a great idea, I'll check the weakness calcs tomarrow, after I'm not tired.

My concern with that Kingdra set is that Substitute + life orb is ALOT of life draining, and I dunno if he could keep it up.

So I was thinking of this Mammoswine:

Mammoswine @ Choice Band?
Adamant
252 Atk/252 spe/6 HP
~Ice Shard
~Earthquake
~Stone Edge
~Super Power

Anyone have any suggestions?

Why have a Yanmega without a spinner? You lose half of your health, and can only switch in once, or you're dead.

Instead of hidden Power Ground on Weezing, Thunderbolt would be useful. That would make it an effective counter to Gyarados, as it can KO with Thunderbolt, but will never die to a +1 Waterfall.

I'll rate more in-depth later, right now I have to go schedule a doctor's appointment. :-/

That's why I have 0 EVs in health, so I can switch in TWICE with yanmega. and I think Heatran eats me without HP ground, but Ican try I guess

I'd try thunderbolt on weezing for Gyarados, as you have Lucario for Heatran switch ins.

Rapid Spin over Ice Beam or T-bolt maybe. I always like Sub on Yanmega, since most foes expect you to Protect and thus don't attack anyway. Sub Petaya is awesome for a late game sweep.

Other than that, good original team.

hmm I'm not liking this team much... Needs moar... something... I'm going to try to find a good lead with SR, something to stop set ups, etc. etc.
