A Prototype Sandstorm Team

Status
Not open for further replies.
This is probably my second attempt at an OU singles team, so please be gentle.

Ambipom (M) @ Life Orb Trait: Technician
EVs: 248 Atk / 252 Spd / 8 SDef
Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Fake Out
- Taunt
- Low Kick
- U-turn
Anti-lead lead. Pretty basic. Can scout out the opponent's team.

Magnezone @ Leftovers
Trait: Magnet Pull
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Spd / 252 SAtk
Naive Nature (+Spd, -SDef)
- Thunderbolt
- Hidden Power Grass/Fire
- Substitute
- Magnet Rise
My steel killer/ special sweeper. Can use magnet rise on predicted switch to eliminate its major weakness.

Lucario (M) @ Life Orb
Trait: Inner Focus
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spd
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Swords Dance
- Close Combat
- ExtremeSpeed
- Crunch
My physical sweeper. Pretty basic.

Gengar (M) @ Life Orb
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Spd / 252 SAtk
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Focus Blast
- Substitute
- Shadow Ball
- Pain Split
My main special sweeper. I use pain split on him to counteract the damaging effects of sandstorm. Also, thanks to Pain Split, is able to heavily damage opposing special walls, namely Blissey. Immune to ground and fighting, so pairs well with metagross.

Tentacruel (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Clear Body
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SDef
Calm Nature (+SDef, -Atk)
- Toxic Spikes
- Rapid Spin
- Sludge Bomb
- Toxic
Is able to absorb toxic spikes, as well as put up some of its own. Pairs well with my other pokemon, as it can take water-type attacks like a beast. Is able to rapid spin out entry hazards as well.

Hippowdon (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Sand Stream
EVs: 252 HP / 168 Def / 88 SDef
Impish Nature (+Def, -SAtk)
- Earthquake
- Stealth Rock
- Slack Off
- Roar
My physical wall, as well as my sand streamer. With its bulky ev set-up, and slack off, this guy can last a long time. He is also able to set up stealth rocks, and roar out stat-boosting pokemon.

alright since this is your first team i won't be too harsh.

first of all, for a sandstorm team, you have no pokemon that actually abuse sandstorm in any way. ambipom isn't a good lead for sstorm teams, so change hippowdon to your lead.

gengar isn't doing much to this team, and it constantly gets hurt by your sstorm. gliscor (sand veil) is a vital part of a sandstorm team, as is cradily (cursing ones). tentacruel isn't doing much to this team either, so replace that with mamoswine or regirock or something like that, something that benefits from sandstorm.

anyways, gl with the team (i just gave a quick rate :(

P.S expand your descriptions or the forum moderators will lock it, no kidding.

I appreciate the input, and I'm sure you know what you're talking about, but tentacruel and gengar are both very valuable to this team. Not all pokemon on a sandstorm team need to benefit from it, and gengar provides a counter to many of this teams checks. As does tentacruel, and it also serves as my rapid spinner. I did in fact use hippowdon as my lead on this team for a while, but I really wanted a pokemon that could stop others from setting up, and was fast. As for Ambipom, I do agree that he is probably not the best pokemon for a sandstrom team, but I need a taunter on this team. I would love any suggestions for a possible taunter.

Given that you don't like Hippowdon as your lead, maybe try Aerodactyl? It has a fast taunt and can proceed to set up Stealth Rock. This set perhaps?

Aerodactyl @ Focus Sash
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 4 HP/252 Att/252 Spe
Jolly nature (+Spe, -Sp.Att)
- Stealth Rock
- Taunt
- Earthquake
- Rock Slide

Also, since Tentacruel doesn't really benefit from Sandstorm, maybe try Forrestress? It can set up Toxic Spikes and Rapid Spin, like Tentacruel. Maybe...

Forretress @ Shed Shell/ Leftovers
Ability: Sturdy
EVs: 252 HP/ 122 Att/ 144 Def
IVs: 0 Spe
Relaxed nature (+Def, -Spe)
-Toxic Spikes/ Spikes
-Rapid Spin
-Gyro Ball/ Payback
-Earthquake/ Explosion

Forretress also pairs up quite nicely with Heatran, if you want to swap someone out for him. Gengar perhaps? You don't want too many Pokes on a Sanstorm team that aren't immune to Sanstorm, or it's rather redundant, and only half of your team has an immunity. If you need Gengar for spin blocking purposes, you could try replacing him with Rotom-H, who's Thunderbolt and Overheat help with pokemon like waters and Scizor, respectively. Hope I was able to help. :)

Thank you guys so much. The only reason I don't lead off with Tyranitar is that, in order to outspeed any of his major counters, he needs a choice scarf, and taunting with a choice scarf is pretty stupid. I think I'll try out aerodactyl, percussionist, I don't know why I didn't think of that. I used to use Forretress, and I don't remember why I stopped. I think I'll try using him again.

3. Have some actual words in your post beyond your six Pokemon and their moves. Not following this makes your post quite boring to read and rate. All Pokemon should have a good reason for being in your team anyway, so why not post that reason? If you are having trouble with this one, start by giving an explanation for each team member. Why are they there? What role do they serve? How do you get them in? Then, give an explanation of how you would open with the team and how you would go about using it. All of these things help people rate your team and allow us to offer more helpful advice.

Your descriptions are lacking, which means you are violating the above quoted RMT rule. If you wish to remedy this problem, explain your reasoning behind each Pokemon and why they work on your team more thoroughly. I recommend lurking through the RMT Archive in order to see prime examples of what we're looking for in an RMT! If you improve your explanations for your Pokémon, please private message me indicating that you've done so by showing me your new descriptions. Once you've done that, I will re-open this thread. Thanks.
