a really average team

hey guys, new trainer here. I have a basic understanding of pokemon as far as type advantages, abilities, ev spreads and suchlike. I was hoping for some help editing this team I created. I have it centered around an offensive core of mamoswine and volcarona, with jellicent and ferrothorn forming the defensive backbone.

Mamoswine: Adamant, Thick Fat
life orb
252 atk/ 252 hp/ 4 spD
earthquake
ice shard
icicle crash
superpower

has perfect neutral coverage w/ EQ and icicle crash. ice shard for priority and possible revenge killing. superpower for ferrothorn cuz he walls mamo. main threats are scizor and starmie, especially in rain. (my team as a whole is weak to rain, part of why I'm needing help). this is where...

Jellicent: Calm, Water Absorb
leftovers
252 hp/ 36 def/ 220 spD
scald
toxic
shadow ball
recover

...comes in. it checks starmie and does a decent chunk with shadow ball even without investment. usually switch in on a hydro pump or surf to recover HP. Walls threats to mamo such as conkeldurr and terrakion. checks scrafty, scizor, and lucario to some extent. needs support form a physical wall to account for its weakness to dark and ghost type attacks. blocks rapid spin :)

Ferrothorn: Relaxed, Iron Barbs
leftovers
252 hp/ 88 def/ 168 spD
leech seed
power whip
stealth rock
spikes

lead ferro. power whips the crap out of bulky waters. seeds and lefties for good hp recovery. sponges all sorts of physical hits. great synergy with jelly who resists and is immune to fire and fighting attacks respectively. also sets up rocks and spikes

Jolteon: Timid, Volt Absorb
choice scarf
252 spA/ 252 Spd/ 4 hp
volt switch
thunderbolt
shadow ball
HP ice

Hp ice for annoying dragons and weakened ground types. shadow ball for alakazam. volt switch to scout. tbolt for main stab. great scout. checks threats such as salamence, dragonite (with SR damage), garchomp, and Co. also 2HKOes jellicent with tbolt (possibly OHKO, not sure).

Landorus-T: Adamant, Intimidate
expert belt
252 atk/ 252 hp/ 4hp
earthquake
u turn
stone edge
brick break

checks a plethora of threats like darmantian, arcanine, and volcarona with EQ. u turn to scout. brick break for TTar, who my team hates (plus other dark types). stone edge for zapdos.

Volcarona: Modest, Flame Body
4 hp/ 252 spA/ 252 spd
leftovers
quiver dance
bug buzz
fire blast
giga drain

after one quiver dance it has good bulk and great special attack. checks ice types like mamoswine and abomasnow. obliterates ferrothorn. giga drain OHKOs or 2HKOs jelly after a boost. giga drain checks pert and milotic as well, especially after a boost in the case of milotic.

Please all feedback is welcome. CONSTRUCTIVE feedback that is. this is my second team ever to be rated so please be gentle with the criticism. thanks.

Well, you have to do some changes,

First at all you have to use Sprites if you want to post an RMT and you have to read the rules, and eventually a guide on this forum to learn some things on game.
Okay, let s rate it. Mamoswine is an offensive pokemon, and full hp evs are pretty useless, i d suggest you to use 252Atk/4hp/252spd to outspeed Tentacruel, Breloom, and hit Dragonite with Icicle Spear to break his multiscale and kill it in one hit.

Your landorus-T evs are random imo, i d suggest you to use 252hp/196Def/56spd Adamant, with this Ev spread it can stop more offensive things that could be a trouble for your team like Sword dance Scizor, i also use Superpower>Brick Break to hit better steel like Ferrothorn.

Well, now if you want to use Volcarona you need forsure a spinner. I d change Jolteon, and replace it with a starmie, so you dont lose your offensive power and have in the same time a good spinner and a Status absorber too. I d use an Ev spread of 36Hp/252SAtk/216Spd Leftovers Timid, with this ev spread you can outspeed all that it have to outspeed and have more bulk versus fight moves, with a moveset of Psyshockor Thunderbolt/Hydro Pump/Rapid Spin/Recover Psyshock to stop Keldeo/Kion or Thunderbolt if you want to hit better rain teams.

Your spinblocker, Jellycent need Taunt>Shadow Ball, in this way opponents pokemons or an opponent s stall cant set nothing. Its Ev spread need some chenge, you have to use 252hp/200spD/56spd to outspeed others jellicent or a common Scizor and burn it before its pursuit, yeah i told burn because you shoul use WoW instead of toxic for obvious reason, you can stop TS tentacruel and can burn something that could be a trouble.

Hope that changes helped you, see yaa :)

Hey there, nice team! Here's some changes that'll make it better :)

  • Give Mamoswine 252 Speed EVs instead of HP. The reason for this is so it can outspeed Heatran, Adamant Breloom (It'll hit it with Ice Shard before Breloom can hit with Mach Punch), Gliscor and other stuff in the 200-252 speed range. Mamo is a wall breaker, which means it wants to deal as much damage as possible in a small amount of time.
  • Jellicent looks okay, I would consider using Will-o-Wisp over Toxic though. The reason is that against physical threats you're really just hoping for that 30% chance to hit from Scald. This will give you a reliable way to beat those threats.
  • Use Modest Nature on Jolteon. With Choice Scarf, it will be the fastest revenge killer in the game. The next fastest is generally Latios, who hits 350 speed before the Scarf boost. Modest Jolteon gets 358-359 speed, which means without Timid it is still the fastest Choice Scarfed pokemon. This will give you an extra boost of power.
  • For an offensive Landorus-T, use this set instead:

    Landorus-Therian (M) @ Life Orb
    Trait: Intimidate
    EVs: 252 Spd / 252 Atk / 4 HP
    Adamant Nature
    - Earthquake
    - Rock Polish
    - Stone Edge
    - U-Turn / Swords Dance

Rock Polish will make Landorus-T outspeed everything in the game and with Life Orb it will turn into a wrecking ball. I don't really like U-Turn here, its good for scouting, but this set is for sweeping, so Swords Dance is the superior option. If you can set up both, its pretty much good game at that point. Earthquake OHKOs Tyranitar too.

I would take Uomo Solo's advice on trying out Starmie over Jolteon. If you don't like that suggestion you can also try Forretress over Ferrothorn, since it can set up hazards as well as Rapid Spin. Taunt over Shadow Ball on Jellicent is a great suggestion as well, go with that.

I hope this will help you, best of luck!

If you're gonna Choice Scarf Jolteon, why not use something bulkier and stronger such as Thundurus-T or Raikou? In fact, this team covers threats pretty well and I couldn't find anything that flat-out killed you, but the sets just seemed off. I also think Volcarona plays a huge role in stopping threats from killing you and the question is - do you believe keeping your hazards up is more important, or getting rid of of your opponents to keep Volcarona healthy? Especially where spinning will be hard anyway (by the way, Jellicent doesn't check Scrafty, don't be fooled into thinking that).

Personally, I would consider trying a defensive Tentacruel with Rapid Spin. It still handles Keldeo, Lucario to that extent (if you're facing a SD Lucario that doesn't have Crunch it means they beat Jellicent anyway), Infernape, Volcarona, Scizor, Terrakion, etc. Yeah, if they have a spinner it means you probably won't get many hazards up, but then again, does something like Starmie or Forretress even spin well vs this team?

By the way, Landorus with Break Break makes no sense to me. EQ will outdamage it or provide equal damage vs anything significant. Trying something such as a boosting move like ala suggested, or go with a unique Hidden Power Fire to further stop Forretress + Ferrothorn.

Speaking of Ferrothorn, why Leech Seed? You don't have protect to benefit from it, and i can't imagine you ever seeding something that doesn't want to be in vs Ferrothorn, which makes it seem somewhat pointless. Thundurus Wave to slow down threats just feels better here, or even Gyro Ball to hit things. You could also consider going with Rest and a Chesto Berry even though you aren't using rain, allowing Ferrothorn a longer time to live and set up Entry Hazards.

So yeah, Choice Scarf Raikou or Thundurus-T over Jolteon, Tentacruel > Jellicent, A new move over Leech Seed, and a new Landorus move would probably be what I'd try.

Most suggestions have already been covered by the other raters, but one more thing I would change is if you're using Fire Blast on Volc use TIMID>Modest and use a Life Orb that way you can hit harder and faster without having to set up. Giga Drain also isn't hitting things much harder than Bug Buzz, try HP Ground> Giga Drain that way you beat Heatran without a Balloon and you also beat Tentacruel.
And if you're gonna use Volcarona at all,MAKE SURE YOU GET A SPINNER. Bulky Starmie would fit nicely over Jellicent. Even Magic Bounce is better than nothing.
Overall, not a bad weatherless team. Good Luck!
