A Unique Leafeon?

Enough for Skarmary.

Leafeon can still prove to be useful, it can come in on Celebi and absorb leech Seed, Grass knot, and doesn't mind a U-turn with its high Defense.

Leafeon is a unique pokemon because of its typing and one of the few grass types with Baton Pass (other than Celebi). If you guys were to say its best as a SDancer, why not just have Celebi? It gets Recover, Baton Pass, Swords Dance, and also gets better speed than Leafeon, as well as HP.

I wanted something Leafeon could do successfully... Perhaps a

Sub
SDance
Leaf Blade
Roar

would work, except it still has the same problem as before, subbing on the special sweeper switchin-in who are almost always faster than even a max speed Leafeon (Azelf/Gengar/Zam/Infernape/ScarfRan, etc.). Curse would be unique in making Leafeon a physcial sweeper and a tank (like Jynx/Raikou for Special Attacks).

Curse is something that would surprise alot of people and really aid a team coming from a Grass poke.

I guess Celebi is better as a SDancer, and Umbreon is better as a Curser in your guys' book...

Taunt won't be much use if you're slower than Leafeon, which Skarm certainly is. You'll just end up taunting the BP recipient, who will be designed to attack. Therefore if that Pokemon can OHKO or takes little damage from Skarm, you'll essentially be giving them free setup.

Well, that most likely won't work against this Leafeon set, because it's a curser, so it'll most likely actually be slower than Skarmory, and then when Leafeon's ready to BP, it gets Taunted.

Most Leafeon would BP right in Skarmory's face anyway because of fear of getting phazed, which would probably make Leafeon try to Roar. If it tries to Roar, then thanks to Roar's negative priority, Taunt goes first and Leafeon is screwed.

Skarmory can learn Taunt.
Unless Skarmory is running Taunt in conjunction with Whirlwind, it's only going to be able to counter Leafeon (The standard, taunt Skarmory would be able to counter this Curse variant 100% of the time) "once"

Even with Taunt and Whirlwind Leafeon still has a chance of getting off a successful pass.

If Skarmory uses Taunt and Leafeon uses Baton Pass, Skarm is facing the pokemon Leafeon passed to.

If Skarmory uses Whirlwind and Leafeon uses Roar, Leafeon goes first and forces skarm to switch.

Granted with those two moves used in conjunction; Skarmory has a much better chance of stopping Leafeon than just using one or the other.

Enough for Skarmary.

If Celebi uses something like "Psychic" Leafeon is going to be in trouble due to it's lackluster special defence.

The set you just outlined get's walled by steels 100% of the time. With Baton Pass Leafeon can bypass many threats to itself.

Leafeon has a niche that makes it a better Sword Dance passer than Celebi in some regards. Off the top of my head Leafeon actually has a physical STAB to take advantage of the Swords Dances and has a chance of escaping phazers. Taking away it's speed is not an option in DP. If Leafeon learned "Bulk Up" it would be usable.

EDIT: Bah--- I should read the whole topic before posting next time. Evolutia presents the counterpoint very well. Taunt Skarm does not stop baton passers who are faster than it, which not only includes Leafeon... but Ninjask.

As for Leafeon vs Celebi -- Leafeon has roar, wish, a STAB physical attack and higher attack to boot. Roar prevents typical phazers as Leafeon's base speed is pretty impressive. As for Celebi's HP... it kinda sucks that Celebi has a higher def tier than leafeon, and a much higher Sp. Def tier... but it doesn't have a pursuit or ghost weakness. 252 HP Leafeon can actually switch into non-CB T-Tar crunch, stone edge or earthquake or Dragon Dance for instance. (3-hit KOed by non-CB crunch / Stone Edge, leafeon outspeeds and 2-hit KOs with 0 EV leaf blade). Celebi is scared away by Crunch.

It can LORb Leafstorm T-tar, if it switches in on something other than Crunch. And isnt afraid of Ice Beam 2 much like Leafeon is.
