Abilities and transferring from ADV to DP

If a pokemon inherited a new Ablity (such as Magic Guard on the Clefairy family) in the transition from ADV to DP, would it ever be possible for that pokemon to change its ability when it evolves after transfering it over? For example:

In ADV the Clefairy line only had one ability, which is Cute Charm. Now that DP has added Magic Guard, would it be possible for me to breed a perfect Cleffa on ADV and transfer it over to DP, then evolve it and have the ability change to Magic Guard?

I'm sorry if this question has already been answered before, but this is something that (at least from what I've seen) has gone largely unanswered. Thanks! If this doesn't make any sense I'll try to clarify.

Yes. It appears as though the ability given to the Pokemon when it evolves is completely unrelated to the original ability of a Pokemon transferred from ADV. However, from some stories I've heard, I'm considering the possibility that Trainer ID or something could be related. Of course, the people I heard from that always got ability X could have been using Emerald clones, which still implies it's not truly random. Either way, yes, you can get the new ability.

Since we're on this topic, I would like to ask if I trade over a Staryu with natural cure, can it possibly lose it for Illuminate?

It will not lose it for illuminate but when you evolve it to starmie it will have the possibility of losing it

Noooooo... There are 2 slots for abilities I think. A pokemon gets slot 1 or 2 for its ability when it is generated, which never changes. Now for a poke like Shroomish which has Effect Spore on both slots in Advance, in D/P slot 2 will change to Poison Heal on evo. So Slot 2 Effect Spore Shroomish->Poison heal Breloom, while Slot 1 Effect Spore Shroomish->Effect Spore Breloom. Staryu already has Illuminate in one of its slots, so on evolving it into Starmie wont change the slot, and thus won't change the ability.

Oh yeah that's what I meant, thanks. But then wouldn't that mean you won't wanna breed Magnemite in Emerald incase this happens?

Edit: oh thanks gmax, that makes sense.

Pal Park messes that up. Abilities can switch after a Pokemon brought in through Pal Park evolves. A Natural Cure Staryu brought in through Pal Park can change to a Illuminate Starmie or remain a Natural Cure Starmie.

You wouldn't want to breed Magnemite in Emerald since there's no way to guarentee it becomes a Magnet Pull Magenezone.

Oh crap. At least finally I know I can trust TRE's opinion. (You were right maniacrlyrasist.)

What that means, by the way, is that you should evolve to Starmie before transferring it. The only reason I can see for you wanting to transfer it as a Staryu is in order to get the move Power Gem.

I guess you've got to decide - you can transfer it over as Staryu in order to get Power Gem, but risk losing Natural Cure, or you can evolve it to Starmie to ensure Natural Cure, but lose Power Gem in the process.

Power Gem is completely and utterly worthless though. :]

Is it? It his Gyarados for super-effective damage without the risk of an Electivire switch-in.

It may not usually be the preferred option, but I'd say it's a far cry from 'completely and utterly worthless'.

So is it only a chance that the ability will change? That would really suck to breed a perfect pokemon and have it not inherit the desired ability.

That's happened with Rock Head Rhydon turning into Lightning Rod Rhyperior for a few members.

It happened with me as well my sand veil gligar evolved into hyper cutter gliscor , im really hating Pal Park for that
