Acceleration of Regeneration.

So I was wondering if scientific research has, or will ever bring us to a process in which we can speed up regeneration. Humans do regenerate but it takes time. And so, will the process of Regeneration without the use of a band-aid/Neosporin applied after a few weeks been able to be accelerated?
There are various methods of speeding up other processes in the human body such as eating certain foods or taking certain medicines to speed up your metabolism, so why not regeneration.

Your thoughts about this?

The liver is capable of regeneration but the rest really is not. The skin is only capable to a point. It simply is not in out dna for us to do that. They are researching a species of fish called the danio (one of my favorite fish) that is capable of regenerating its fins and even its heart and brain in the larval stage. The danio can also regenerate its photoreceptors which are used to send the signels to the brain for sight. The are researching to find out just how they regenerate.

To expound upon what Lexite said, the truth is that as living things, we really degenerate. Thus, the best we can really hope for is to possibly slow the degeneration that occurs on a cellular level. This, of course, is easier said than done, but there's always a lot of research being done with telomerase, which is an enzyme that prevents degeneration of telomeres on the ends of cells that occurs every time a cell undergoes mitosis. Sex cells and cancer cells are really the only cells that can stay young in this manner, but some believe that we can safely double the human lifespan by keeping our cells from degenerating as we age.

In terms of regeneration, the liver is the only organ we have that can regenerate simply because hepatocytes (liver cells) are easily triggered by the p75 gene to go from being inactive (g0) to actively splitting.

I love the liver. It's by far my favorite organ. :)

I wouldn't rule out any possible future advancement of being able to regenerate, but currently, the technology doesn't exist. Theoretically, you can probably add genes or something to either reduce degeneration or improve regeneration of the body's cells and stuff I think.
