Salamence fulfills its childhood dream of soaring in the sky by swooping into the ADV OU metagame as a terrifying mixed wallbreaker. Being an excellent answer to TSS (Toxic + Spikes + Sandstorm), Salamence can put a dent in some of the bulkiest metagame staples such as Tyranitar, Metagross, and Skarmory. Dragon Claw is a powerful tool that lets it deal with Zapdos, opposing Salamence, and Swampert. Fire Blast cooks Steel-types such as Metagross, Skarmory, and Forretress, while Brick Break hits Tyranitar, Blissey, and Snorlax. Roar is what differentiates Salamence from other wallbreakers, allowing it to phaze Calm Mind Suicune lacking Ice Beam and Calm Mind + Baton Pass Celebi while shrugging off their coverage options. Spikes setters such as Skarmory and Forretress help put walls such as Blissey, Swampert, and specially defensive Jirachi in range of Salamence's coverage options. Your own specially defensive Jirachi can also provide Wish support to keep Salamence healthy and check offensive Starmie. Tyranitar is another valuable teammate because its sand keeps the likes of Blissey and Snorlax from recovering HP as easily.
In this replay from SPL XII, McMeghan uses Salamence to clean up a game, with the help of Spikes and Roar making it hard for the opposing Suicune to set up. https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/smogtours-gen3ou-538642
