Advanced techniques in Brawl

I've seen the Floating Sword Plant vid, and as a Toon Link main, I can tell you now that it doesn't work that way. After being hit up, using your Dair will result in a slower attack with equal power. It's very useful for hitting because it throws off the timing of your opponent, but you won't actually float in place.

Random things a lot of people didn't know.

Bowser and Charizard can aim their fire up or down. Their fire attacks each do at least 20 % or so if the opponent is caught close to the user at the beginning of the attack. If an opponent doesn't DI or tries to DI through it they could take a lot more damage. It's a very improved attack. Not exactly an advanced tech though.

Wario can taunt on his bike. Most advanced tech ever.

A real tech that hasn't been mentioned yet is Autolanding.

Yoshi's Island
Lylat Cruise
Smashville
Pirate Ship
Battleship Halberd
Rainbow Cruise
Frigate Orpheon
Delfino Island (when the stage is rising or setting into the different levels)

Hold down while jumping, release down when you're equal vertically with a moving platform, perform smash/grab/special/whatever. It's pretty useful on levels with moving platforms. Obviously useless otherwise.

Unknown Name (Teather Tech?)--- Tether Tech is a name I just madeup for this techique... simply because it doesn't have a name yet. See this video at 1:33, and you can see that you can survive a Kirby Hammer at absurd levels of damage by Air Dodge + Teathering the instant after you're hit. You'll grab the ledge and all your momentum wil be canceled by the teather recovery. It only works with Z-Teathers because you can interrupt an air dodge. with a Z-Teather. I did not discover this technique, nor do I have any reason to name it... I just... don't like the idea of leaving something unnamed...

2. Pikachu quick attack cancel (QA-Cancel for short) -- There is 0 lag when pikachu hits the ground on a quick attack. It is like doing an L-Cancel without worrying about hitting R/Z >_>

QA-cancel -> Down-B is the easiest thing to pull off for me. Useful to hit characters who attempt an aerial approach on you. (QA cancel under them, then Thunder)
QA-cancel -> neutral b == useful for spacing as well as pressure.
QA-Cancel -> Smash Attack == The obvious use of this technique.
QA-Cancel -> Double Jump == Mind game potential. Instead of assaulting from the ground, you QA Cancel into an aerial approach.
QA Cancel -> QA == You can quick attack out of a Quick Attack Cancel. Really fast movement here.
Most people just call it QAC, actually. Anyway, the QAC -> double jump isn't really mindgame potential... it's one of the biggest uses for it... QAC'd uair -> nair, or just QAC'd nair is huge. QAC -> QAC is mindgame potential, though lol QAC -> no jump dair is also nice and sets up for edgeguarding, due to the shockwave it creates when you hit the ground during it. Also, QAC thunder is the quickest way to follow up from a dsmash. QAC -> smash is kinda slow, tbh, and is hardly the most obvious use, considering you're in the air after the QAC. Still, QAC -> ff'd airdodge -> buffered dsmash or utilt can be useful. Nair is safer and faster for a kill move, but usmash or fsmash are usable out of it.

This video was pretty useful in describing glitches ingame. It includes the Dash Cancel Smashes and such, and I found it pretty useful:

Also, there is a new technique called Autocanceling is amazing (not shown in video). The idea is to fully complete the animation before landing, so you won't have any lag. The best example of this is with Ganondorf using his Dair. What I found to work (on a GC controller) is to short-hop with the Control Stick, and then quickly press down C. You will do the down air, but if you do it right you will notice that there is no lag after it is perfomed. Works alot like L-Canceling did in Melee. Autocanceling also works for Captain Falcon (also with the Dair) and Peach (with float canceling).

It might make Ganondorf not as horrible! :)

"Autocancelling" is the biggest phony non-tech ever. Oh wow, your aerial completely finished before you hit the ground. Of course there's only standard landing lag (very small), you're no longer doing anything. What's much more interesting are aerials with no landing lag even mid-attack, like Ike's NAir or everything Samus has.

Either way, there's no technique to apply here. You merely have to remember which aerials "autocancel." You merely have to remember which aerials land with no lag regardless of autocancelling. It's NOT a tech, you're not DOING anything to perform it. Float Cancelling also no longer exists.

Dragontamer, are you TRYING to be a fusion of all the most annoying retards on SWF? "omg the video at 1:33," "DLX cancelling" and whatnot. That said, "tether teching" is a potentially useful skill if this topic were to be revived. QAC, yeah. Glide tossing items, yes. On the note of the IC chain-grabbing fun might want to give a nod to Laser Lock and its cousin Iceb-locking. Maybe Lucas's Zap Jumping (plus Magnet Slide) and Wolf's Scarring.

This topic no longer seems necessary and should've stayed dead, though. ;[

Meh, I don't have a camera. The best Teather Shot I have is the video at 1:33, and I don't think it is that hard to do (Especially now that youtube allows you to jump to whatever point in the video... loaded or not). Otherwise, I'd do it myself.

Second: DLX Canceling... as retarded of a name as it is... is what many youtubers are calling it. There are a few videos under "Dash Attack Cancel", and equally a good number of videos under "DLX Canceling". Hopefully the former name will wipe out the latter. While I don't support the terminology, I'd rather introduce it to people.

so... sheiks teather won't work for it?

Nope. Not this technique anyway.

Most people just call it QAC, actually.

Cool, good to know. QAC->nair seems like a good idea.

Just as you can Air Dodge almost immediately after tumbling mid-air, you can wiggle the control stick back and forth to break out. If you do it quick enough, it may be possible to employ the Special tethers as well.

This topic was crap when I made it (my fault) and still not that good. Maybe I'll come out later with a list of things that are good to know.
