ALBUMZ 2OO8

I'm looking forward to the new Atmosphere, Metallica, and Biomechanical albums. Also, Protest the Hero has the entirety of Fortress on their Myspace, and I like the album so far.

edit: I really like Alopecia.

new Xiu Xiu was pretty decent, I liked the 'Under Pressure' cover.

I really liked the new Vampire Weekend [self titled] too.

New Malkmus got better and better after each listen, and Beach House's Devotion was my favorite of '08. [so far]

Alopecia will probably be my next new listen, really looking forward to it as i've enjoyed just about all of Why?'s work, and anything that comes out of anticon.

edit: Also looking to get my hands on new Mountain Goats.

So far I've only heard new Mountain Goats and Why? this year but both were pretty awesome.

looking into British Sea Power next.

oh i have listened to Times New Viking but my shitty headphones make the sound even shittier so muchso that it pains me to listen.

Vampire Weekend was really bland imo but I really haven't been in the mood for that kind of music lately so that could be why.

edit: stephem malkmus - real emotional trash is excellent so far

I'm definately excited for the new Dangers LP sometime this year, they played a song off it last time they came through and it was bangin'.

Hopefully a new Graf Orlock LP/EP will drop sometime during the summer, everyone's favorite cinemagrind band. 80s/90s action/horror movie soundclips, absurd lyrics about intergalactical terrorism and killer robots + grindcore, you can't lose.

I'm looking forward to he new Three Days Grace album...

I was looking forward to Bullet for my Valentine's Scream Aim Fire, but it freaking sucked. The lyrics got even worse (didn't know it was possible), and the vocals are HORRIBLE... Ugh.

I didn't really know what else was coming out this year, so I'll probably get the new Opeth and Metallica albums.

New Ghengis Tron leaked, i'll listen to it after school today and give my opinions if anyone cares, I think they have a few fans here.

Still haven't had time to listen to new Mountain Goats, I probably would go ahead and do it but i've heard some really good things so I want to devote my full attention.

holy shit holy shit holy shit alopecia has been leaked i am downloading it right now

i will definitely be getting all new anticon releases. i really liked for hero: for fool so i'm excited for subtle's new release (yes subtle technically isn't anticon can i get a witness glen). 13 & God really didn't do it for me, i mean, a lot of the tracks were musically amorphous -- and i KNOW that comes with the nature of dose's lyrics but sometimes i just got lost in the ambient noise. the same applied to a new white, incidentally

apart from that i've been eyeing crystal castle's debut album, out in march. i've been listening to the alice practice ep a lot recently. it's glitchy and raw and abrasive and i like it a lot!

foreys man if you like crystal castles you should really check out les georges leningrad. annoying electropunk rocks.

i still havent downloaded alopecia i think i will now.

OH the new gaslight anthem ep might be one of the best things i have ever heard in my life. ive only heard one song, blue jeans and white t-shirts, but HOLY FUCK. it is so rare nowadays for a song to hit me so hard on a first listen and not really require multiple listens to accept. this one just took me away almost instantly. im a sucker for country-tinged stuff, and this ballad is so epic and moving.

New Ghengis Tron was good by all means, but didn't live up to my pretty high expectations, and didn't quite match up to their previous work.

Clinic had a new ep leak [albeit a really short one], and it was a return to form after failing to meet those high expectations so long ago!

Also really enjoyed Able Baker Fox's new album : )

Sorry for the bump/double post but I think this thread was bound to be revived/re-made at some point.

Murder By Death - Red of Tooth and Claw

I'm judging after one listen, but this is pretty alright, but probably their weakest release so far. I usually like when they throw a little bit more vocals in there but it just doesn't feel the same =/. It's entirely possible though that I have listened to Like the Exorcist, but More Breakdancing so much more than their other stuff that that's what I expect them to sound like all the time. 7/10

Los Campesinos - Hold On Now, Youngster

One of my favorite releases so far, not the best, but it's definitely fun enough for a lot more listens. No dissapointment after all of those great ep's here. 'Drop It Doe Eyes' keeps getting stuck in my head. 8.5/10

Also vouching for the new Mae Shi 'Hlllyh' and Boris 'Smile'

There are a couple other things i've got that i've yet to listen to/want to listen to more, maybe someone else will comment on them so I know where to start.

08's looking better than I expected so far

new Protest the Hero and Meshuggah are my faves

the new Mars Volta and Ayreon are decent as well

I found Fortress and obZen good at first, but they become tiring. Except for Combustion, that song is great.

I hope to god the new Opeth isn't a further drop into sellout territory :-(
From some interview I've read with Mikael Akerfeldt, it seems as if it's supposed to be more "energetic".

I picked up yet another posthumous Falco album, Symphonic (came out sometime in Feb. iirc). Pretty weird stuff, makes me sad that I wasn't alive to see him in his "prime".

Looking out for another epic Günther release sometime later this year, as well as the long overdue Deltron Event II project.

Weird stuff this time around.
