Done Allow room owners to promote to ^

Currently, the only room where this is possible is Other Metas, which I guess is done through some admin command. I think it would be really cool to make this available for other rooms so that it could be used as an award for winning some room event, for example. The command could be /roomstar and the permissions could be the same as Voices with basic commands like !dt or !analysis

Thanks!

Could you not just promote them to Voice, then?

Players in battles can set modjoin and modchat, as well - I don't imagine you want that for your event winners.

Voice is not indicative of winning something. It's a reward for being good in a room, rather than winning a event or whatever in that line.

And the star in question isn't the one for players, it's the same one the OM room uses on their roomauth

Oh, okay, so just a custom visual rank. That's definitely possible!

This is something that we've been asking for the arcade room for a while now, this would greatly help us for a lot of prizes for various tournaments and events. Great suggestion!

trivia had this for a while and it caused more trouble than it benefited us, though HoeenHero is the one who knows what exactly the (technical) issues were specifically
im 99.99% sure the technical issues were caused by having to use /eval to add a custom rank instead of being able to just promote to a certain rank. the 'custom rank' issue being eval'd in was mitigated by allowing admins to use /forceroompromote username, symbol, but as i said, that is admin only, so this is just a QoL change at this point for non-Admin ROs.

Thank you for explaining!

This looks and sounds a bit too much like the Player rank. I don't like the symbol overlap tbh.

To clarify: The main thing I don't like is the existence of two ranks which look identical but aren't.

There's a sense in which this already exists with Whitelist, but Whitelist is at least intentionally not supposed to look different. Star vs Player is just confusing, to me.

PS does in general support vanity symbols in the engine, but I also am not convinced that we want them in public rooms in Main. Especially not with a vague name like "star" which only raises more questions than it answers. You'll notice that every other rank is named for exactly what it does ("Driver" isn't obvious; it descends from a "bot driver" rank in older sims for a moderator that isn't trusted enough to use moderation commands themselves but can tell a bot to use moderation commands). I don't like how "star", unlike the others, doesn't say anything about what the rank is for or what it means.

If it were named "Prize" or "Prize winner" and had a different symbol would it be more acceptable? OMs would probably use it (or still use the player star depending on if TI still wants to eval the rank in) and National Dex (as well as other rooms as mentioned in the OP) would benefit from it. Currently, National Dex gives out voice as a reward but that's not ideal because voice should be earned via chat presence and not earned as a reward.

I'm also open to changing the Player symbol, if people want to use the star for Prize Winner. And/or perhaps the Host symbol.

I'd prefer to keep the Player/Host symbols related, though. The intended use-case is that a game room should have both Host and Players.

Alright, then, do you folks have any ideas for what symbol to use for prize winners? Any Unicode symbol that's one byte long (which is most symbols aside from emojis) works from a technical perspective.

If its not possible to have unique symbols for different rooms (such as a magnifying glass for scavengers, die for survivor, etc.), probably a trophy or a medal should be used to indicate that its a prize instead of a promotion.

Change Player/Host to an asterisk (like ✱ ✲ ✻) and use the star for Prize Winner. Star is the best choice for Prize Winner, while it doesn't really matter what the Player/Host symbol is.
