LGPE OU Alolan Dugtrio

Yoshi

IT'S FINK DUMBASS
[OVERVIEW]

Alolan Dugtrio is by far one of the most potent and fastest Pokemon in the metagame. Boasting a base Speed stat of 110, it outspeeds the majority of the metagame and can easily deal with Pokemon that it doesn't outspeed, with few exceptions such as Mega Aerodactyl. Being able to wall Electric-types like Zapdos is also helpful, preventing them from pivoting around or, in the case of a Pokemon like Electrode, setting up dual screens. However, while Alolan Dugtrio has a decent defensive typing in Ground / Steel, it lacks the bulk for that to be relevant. It is OHKOed by quite a few Pokemon in the metagame and fails to OHKO much at all before being OHKOed itself. This usually means one would need to chip down the opposing team before Alolan Dugtrio can safely attack. However, this is not always a difficult task, as the lack of entry hazard removal means that Stealth Rock will almost definitely remain up during the game.

[SET]
name: Standard
move 1: Earthquake
move 2: Stealth Rock / Rock Slide
move 3: Toxic / Stealth Rock
move 4: Sucker Punch
nature: Jolly

[SET COMMENTS]
Set Information
========

Earthquake is Alolan Dugtrio's primary attack and is mostly used to cover Melmetal, Nidoking, and Nidoqueen. Stealth Rock is generally used, as Alolan Dugtrio is a fast Pokemon, a quality that not many Stealth Rock users have. Toxic is run to not be completely walled by Flying-types like Zapdos and other common Pokemon like Mew. Sucker Punch is used to check Pokemon like Mega Gengar and Mega Alakazam, which are much faster than Alolan Dugtrio. Rock Slide is an option over Stealth Rock to do more damage to Flying-types like Zapdos. If you choose to run Rock Slide, it may be wise to keep Stealth Rock in favor of Toxic, although one may prefer to keep the latter. A Jolly nature is run to maximize Alolan Dugtrio's Speed, allowing you to outspeed Mew and Zapdos.

Usage Tips
========

It's usually best to not send in Alolan Dugtrio on raw attacks, outside of Electric-type attacks. It would therefore be wiser to send it in as a revenge killer, as a lead, or through pivoting moves from Pokemon like Mega Beedrill and Zapdos. Alolan Dugtrio's Speed will mostly be used to get chip damage off on opposing Pokemon through means of Stealth Rock, Toxic, and Earthquake. Alolan Dugtrio is frail, so be prepared to be potentially OHKOed when using Stealth Rock. However, some Pokemon like Zapdos allow Alolan Dugtrio to get up Stealth Rock for free, assuming it is at full health. Make sure Pokemon are at a low enough amount of health before trying to revenge kill them with Sucker Punch. While the move is used to revenge kill Pokemon like Mega Gengar and Mega Alakazam, they aren't KOed from full, and a lot of chip damage is required to beat them. Unless you are running Eevee-S, keep Alolan Dugtrio away from Pokemon like Mew until they are at low enough health to be knocked out. This is because if you let Alolan Dugtrio get burned, its offenses are negligible, making it merely a utility Pokemon. Use Toxic on Pokemon like Zapdos that Alolan Dugtrio can't hit hard or perhaps hit at all so they are worn down every time they switch into it, on top of the Stealth Rock damage.

Team Options
========

Pair Alolan Dugtrio with pivots such as Mega Beedrill, Mew, and Zapdos to not only help it get in safely but also get chip damage off on its potential checks. This will allow it to clean late-game a lot more easily. Fighting- resistant Pokemon such as Mew are good partners for Alolan Dugtrio as well, as they can wall some of the common Fighting-types of the tier such as Poliwrath. A teammate with a Ground resistance is also necessary, which can be provided by Pokemon like Mega Aerodactyl and Gyarados. Mega Venusaur is a good partner, as it resists the Water-type attacks that threaten Alolan Dugtrio from Pokemon such as Mega Gyarados and Poliwrath. Eevee-S is a potential partner for Alolan Dugtrio, as it can remove potential burns thanks to Sparkly Swirl. This also applies in the rare event that it gets put to sleep.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

Protect can be used in order to scout moves against the opposing team; however, usually it will not be necessary compared to its standard moves. However, in the event that you run Rock Slide with another Stealth Rock user, Protect can be run over Toxic.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Mega Aerodactyl**: Mega Aerodactyl gives Alolan Dugtrio a hard time if it isn't in range of Sucker Punch; it can easily revenge kill Alolan Dugtrio thanks to its high Speed as well as Earthquake.

**Mega Gengar**: Mega Gengar outspeeds Alolan Dugtrio and OHKOes it with Shadow Ball after minor chip damage. However, it fears Sucker Punch and gets OHKOed by Alolan Dugtrio's Earthquake, meaning it cannot switch in directly.

**Bulky Water-types**: Bulky Water-types like Poliwrath and Slowbro give Alolan Dugtrio a hard time, as they can eat any hit and can fire back with their super effective moves, although they fear Toxic. Poliwrath has the added bonus of being a Fighting-type, which gives it a resistance against Rock Slide and another super effective option to hit Alolan Dugtrio with. Other Pokemon like Starmie and Mega Gyarados work as well, although the former runs the risk of taking a Sucker Punch, and the latter is not as bulky as Poliwrath or Slowbro.

**Burns**: Pokemon such as Mew that can inflict burn give Alolan Dugtrio a hard time because they can nullify its Attack stat with Will-O-Wisp.

Although most LGPE Pokemon are fairly one dimension in terms of their sets, Alolan Dugtrio actually has a some variety in the moves that it can run, making it potentially hard to predict against in battle. It can fill in as an offensive utility Pokemon, or just a general hard hitter

kinda untrue it literally has 1 variation in if it runs rock slide or not.

Earthquake is used as Alolan Dugtrio's primary attack move. It is mostly used to cover Melmetal.

should mention nidos here as well

Toxic is run so to not be completely walled by Flying-types like Zapdos.

mew.

Be careful when clicking Stealth Rock. Alolan Dugtrio is frail, so get ready to take a potential hard hit when using the move at the expense of delivering nothing in return.

should mention zap gives free rocks

Try and get minor chip off on Pokemon before trying to clean teams with Alolan Dugtrio

this really isnt dugs role at all tbh. What team actually gets cleaned by eq sucker from dug. It's almost always used to get chip with eq, toxic zap and get rocks early game more than anything else, and its very good at that. it is not a good cleaner.

**Bulky Water-types**
add starmie and gyarados

Burn users such as Mew and Moltres
small feeling this isnt the biggest threat coming from moltres.

qc 1/3 after that

  • Eevee-S is a great partner for Alolan Dugtrio in case it gets burned, as Eevee can remove the burn thanks to Sparkly Swirl. This also applies in the rare event that it gets put to sleep as well.
Eevee is actually the opposite of what I would suggest running with alolatrio, as it offers the least defensive utility out of the tier's viable grounds. Thus, pairing alolatrio with a defensive utility mon that's basically deadweight outside of healing status makes the team into an awkward in between balance team that doesn't really work and is likely gonna have a few holes.

With alolatrio, you're probably gonna wanna go for more of an offensive build with megagar to take advantage of its ability to quickly get rocks up and check stuff like zap by putting pressure on the opposing team from the onset of the match. These types of teams tend to appreciate sucker way more than the defensive stuff that eevee tends to force due to the aforementioned increased offensive pressure.

[OVERVIEW]
  • Alolan Dugtrio is by far one of the most potent and fastest Pokemon in the metagame.
  • Boasting a Speed stat of 110, it out speeds the majority of the meta and can easily deal with Pokemon that it doesn't out speed, with few exceptions such as Mega Aerodactyl.
  • Like most of Pokemon in the meta, Alolan Dugtrio is very one dimensional in what it can run for moves, although it does have some options
  • Being able to wall Electric-types like Zapdos is also helpful, preventing them from pivoting around Zapdos can still pivot with U-turn so I would just rephrase this to not spamming its STAB or something, or in the case of a Pokemon like Electrode, setting up screens.
  • Despite all of that, there are a few issues that Alolan Dugtrio has. While it has a decent defensive typing in Ground / Steel, it lacks the bulk for that to be relevant. It is OHKOd by quite a few Pokemon in the meta, and fails to OHKO nearly everything before being OHKOd itself. Just further detail its rather poor damage output which conflicts with non-existent bulk, meaning stuff it is supposed to check like Zapdos can still break through it via Drill Peck.
  • This usually means one would need to chip down the opposing team before Alolan Dugtrio can safely click attacks.
  • However, this is not always a difficult task, as the lack of hazard removal means Stealth Rock will almost definitely be up for the game.
  • Mention weakness to common types such as Ground and Water which prevent Alolan Duggy from staying in on a lot of common threats.

move 2: Stealth Rock / Rock Slide
move 3: Toxic / Stealth Rock
move 4: Sucker Punch

[SET COMMENTS]
Set Information
========
  • Earthquake is used as Alolan Dugtrio's primary attack move. It is mostly used to cover Melmetal, Nidoking, and Nidoqueen. I dont think this needs a bullet after the no fluff update on analyses but not sure.
  • Stealth Rock is generally used as Alolan Dugtrio is a fast Pokemon, a quality that not many Stealth Rock users have. Also mention its ability to come in against Zapdos almost completely freely and have a chance to set them up.
  • Toxic is run so to not be completely walled by Flying-types like Zapdos and other common Pokemon like Mew and Poliwrath.
  • Sucker Punch is used to check Pokemon like Mega Gengar and Mega Alakazam which are much faster than Alolan Dugtrio.
  • Rock Slide is an option over Stealth Rock to do more damage to Flying-types like Zapdos. If you choose to run Rock Slide, it may be wise to run a different move over Toxic such as Stealth Rock, although one may prefer to keep Toxic. This depends if the team already has a rock setter though, so I would reword.
  • A Jolly nature is run to maximize Speed potential.
Usage Tips
========
  • Don't send in Alolan Dugtrio on raw attacks. It would be wiser to send it in as a revenge killer of sorts, a lead, or through pivots from Pokemon like Mega Beedrill or Zapdos.
  • Remember that Alolan Dugtrio is not a cleaner or a sweeper. While it may appear that way with the Speed stat, Alolan Dugtrio will mostly be used to get chip off on opposing Pokemon through means of Stealth Rock, Toxic, and Earthquake.
  • Be careful when clicking Stealth Rock. Alolan Dugtrio is frail, so get ready to take a potential hard hit when using the move at the expense of delivering nothing in return. However, some Pokemon, like Zapdos, allow Alolan Dugtrio to get up Stealth Rock for free.
  • Make sure Pokemon are at a low enough health before trying to revenge kill them with Sucker Punch. While the move is used to revenge kill Pokemon like Mega Gengar and Mega Alakazam, they don't die from full, so minor chip is required. I would also mention the possibility of Mega Gar to use Sub, which can really screw Alo Dug over.
  • Try and get minor chip off on Pokemon before trying to clean teams with Alolan Dugtrio. While it is fast, it isn't exactly strong enough to start OHKOing Pokemon from full like a Pokemon like Melmetal or Mega Beedrill might do. Some chip is required for it to start killing Pokemon. Chip can be gotten off through means of pivoting, Stealth Rock, or Toxic.
  • Unless you are running Eevee-S, it would be wise to keep Alolan Dugtrio away from Pokemon like Mew until they are at a low enough health to be knocked out. This is because if you let Alolan Dugtrio get burned, its offensive side is pretty much useless, making Alolan Dugtrio merely a utility Pokemon. Mew also commonly runs coverage like Flamethrower, so maybe mention that too.
  • Toxic Pokemon that you can't exactly hit hard or perhaps hit at all like Zapdos so that they are worn down every time they switch into Alolan Dugtrio, on top of the Stealth Rock damage.
  • If you are running Rock Slide, please be sure that you run another Stealth Rock user if you are not running Stealth Rock over Toxic.

  • Pair Alolan Dugtrio with pivots such as Mega Beedrill and Zapdos to not only help it get in safely, but also to get chip off on Alolan Dugtrio's potential checks. This will allow it to clean in the late-game a lot easier.
  • Fighting resists such as Mew are good partners for Alolan Dugtrio as well, as they can wall some of the common Fighting-types of the tier such as Poliwrath.
  • A Ground resist is also necessary, which can be fulfilled by Pokemon like Mega Aerodactyl and Gyarados.
  • Mega Venusaur is a good partner as it resists the Water-type attacks that threaten Alolan Dugtrio such as Mega Gyarados and Poliwrath.
  • Eevee-S is a potential partner for Alolan Dugtrio in case it gets burned, as Eevee can remove the burn thanks to Sparkly Swirl. This also applies in the rare event that it gets put to sleep as well.
[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============
  • Protect can be used in order to scout moves against the opposing team, but generally takes up a slot. However, in the event that you run Rock Slide with another Stealth Rock user, Protect is a perfectly viable option to be run over Toxic if you so choose.
Checks and Counters
===================

**Mega Aerodactyl**: Mega Aerodactyl gives Alolan Dugtrio a hard time if it isn't in range of Sucker Punch in that it can easily revenge kill Alolan Dugtrio thanks to its high Speed as well as Earthquake.

**Bulky Water-types**: Bulky Water-types like Poliwrath and Slowbro give Alolan Dugtrio a hard time as they can eat any hit bar Toxic and can fire back with their Super Effective moves. I'd mention mew here as a potential pivot partner in addition to m-bee. It's toxic bait, which Duggy-a can come in on freely.

Otherwise QC 3/3!

Stealth Rock is generally used, (AC) as Alolan Dugtrio is a fast Pokemon, a quality that not many Stealth Rock users have. Toxic is run so to not be completely walled by Flying-types like Zapdos and other common Pokemon like Mew. Sucker Punch is used to check Pokemon like Mega Gengar and Mega Alakazam, (AC) which are much faster than Alolan Dugtrio. Rock Slide is an option over Stealth Rock to do more damage to Flying-types like Zapdos. If you choose to run Rock Slide, it may be wise to run a different move over Toxic such as Stealth Rock, although one may prefer to keep Toxic. A Jolly nature is run to maximize Alolan Dugtrio's Speed potential.

Usage Tips
========

Don't It's usually best to not send in Alolan Dugtrio on raw attacks, even resisted hits. It would be wiser to send it in as a revenge killer of sorts, as a lead, or through pivots from Pokemon like Mega Beedrill or and Zapdos. If you are bold, you could also send it in on a predicted Electric-type attack as well (don't send it in on direct attacks, but also do risk sending it on on direct attacks..? made a change to address this inconsistency). Alolan Dugtrio is oftentimes not an immediate damage-dealer.(yeah I have no idea what this means ngl. are you trying to say duggy isnt a wallbreaker? that it's a utility pokemon? you say this, which makes me think the pokemon is generally not attacking, but then go on to talk about how it will be attacking with earthquake) While it may appear that way with the Speed stat its Speed, Alolan Dugtrio will mostly be used to get chip damage off on opposing Pokemon through means of Stealth Rock, Toxic, and Earthquake. Be careful when clicking Stealth Rock. Alolan Dugtrio is frail, so get ready to take a potential potentially hard hit when using the move Stealth Rock at the expense of delivering nothing in return sacrificing it (again, I have no idea what you are going for here. delivering nothing in return means nothing to me. i THINK you mean that it will do nothing else?). However, some Pokemon, (RC) like Zapdos, (RC) allow Alolan Dugtrio to get up Stealth Rock for free, assuming Alolan Dugtrio it is at full health. Make sure Pokemon are at a low enough amount of health before trying to revenge kill them with Sucker Punch. While the move is used to revenge kill Pokemon like Mega Gengar and Mega Alakazam, they don't die aren't KOed from full,(AC) and a lot of chip damage is required on to beat them. Unless you are running Eevee-S, it would be wise to keep Alolan Dugtrio away from Pokemon like Mew until they are at a low enough health to be knocked out. This is because if you let Alolan Dugtrio get burned, its offensive side is pretty much useless offenses are negligible, making Alolan Dugtrio it merely a utility Pokemon. Use Toxic on Pokemon like Zapdos that you Alolan Dugtrio can't exactly hit hard or perhaps hit at all like Zapdos so that they are worn down every time they switch into Alolan Dugtrio it, on top of the Stealth Rock damage.

Team Options
========

Pair Alolan Dugtrio with pivots such as Mega Beedrill, Mew, and Zapdos to not only help it get in safely, but also to get chip damage off on Alolan Dugtrio's potential checks. This will allow it to clean in the late-game a lot easier. Fighting-type resistant Pokemon resists such as Mew are good partners for Alolan Dugtrio as well, as they can wall some of the common Fighting-types of the tier such as Poliwrath. A Ground-type resistant teammate resist is also necessary, which can be fulfilled by Pokemon like Mega Aerodactyl and Gyarados. Mega Venusaur is a good partner, (AC) as it resists the Water-type attacks that threaten Alolan Dugtrio from Pokemon such as Mega Gyarados and Poliwrath. Eevee-S is a potential partner for Alolan Dugtrio in case it gets burned, as Eevee it can remove the burn potential burns thanks to Sparkly Swirl. This also applies in the rare event that it gets put to sleep as well.

Other Options

Protect can be used in order to scout moves against the opposing team,(RC) but generally takes up a slot more useful move's moveslot (protect will quite literally always take up a moveslot. please fix this sentence to mean what you meant it to). However, in the event that you run Rock Slide with another Stealth Rock user, Protect is a perfectly viable option to can be run over Toxic if you so choose.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Mega Aerodactyl**: Mega Aerodactyl gives Alolan Dugtrio a hard time if it isn't in range of Sucker Punch in that;(add semicolon) it can easily revenge kill Alolan Dugtrio thanks to its high Speed as well as Earthquake.

**Mega Gengar**: Mega Gengar threatens to outspeed outspeeds and can OHKO OHKOes Alolan Dugtrio with Shadow Ball after one incident of chip damage from even a Zapdos's U-turn minor chip damage. However, it fears Sucker Punch and gets OHKOed by Alolan Dugtrio's Earthquake and thus,(AC) meaning it cannot switch in directly.

**Bulky Water-types**: Bulky Water-types like Poliwrath and Slowbro give Alolan Dugtrio a hard time, (AC) as they can eat any hit bar Toxic and can fire back with their super effective moves,(AC) although they fear Toxic. Poliwrath has the added bonus of being a Fighting-type, which gives it a resistance against Rock Slide. It also gives and another super effective option to hit Alolan Dugtrio with. Other Pokemon like Starmie and Mega Gyarados work as well, although the former runs the risk of taking a Sucker Punch, and the latter is not as bulky as Poliwrath or Slowbro.

**Burn Users Inflictors**: Burn users Pokemon such as Mew that can inflict burn give Alolan Dugtrio a hard time because they can nullify its Attack stat with Will-O-Wisp.

[OVERVIEW]

Alolan Dugtrio is by far one of the most potent and fastest Pokemon in the metagame. Boasting a base Speed stat of 110, it out speeds outspeeds the majority of the metagame and can easily deal with Pokemon that it doesn't out speed outspeed, with few exceptions such as Mega Aerodactyl. Like most of Pokemon in the meta, Alolan Dugtrio is very one dimensional in what it can run for moves, although it does have some options (This doesn't really add anything of relevance, it's just filler agreed) Being able to wall Electric-types like Zapdos is also helpful, preventing them from pivoting around, (RC) or, (AC) in the case of a Pokemon like Electrode, setting up dual screens. Despite all of that, there are a few issues that Alolan Dugtrio has. While it has a decent defensive typing in Ground / Steel, it lacks the bulk for that to be relevant. It is OHKOed by quite a few Pokemon in the metagame, (RC) and fails to OHKO nearly everything much at all before being OHKOed itself. This usually means one would need to chip down the opposing team before Alolan Dugtrio can safely click attacks attack. However, this is not always a difficult task, as the lack of entry hazard removal means that Stealth Rock will almost definitely be up for remain up during (feel like this change isn't helpful. there's no lack of certainty that Stealth Rock will stay up; it's a matter of whether or not they will go up) the game.
