An Introduction to Ubers

Once, I got fucked over by a ScarfPalkia, I've wanted to try it ever since. The issue may be that it loses far too much power. I generally run Life Orb anyway, but does anyone see Scarf Palkia as viable?

A lot of Bliss' run a lot of hp/s.def and very little def. Doesn't that much sp.def only really rasie it's overall sp.def by 1.1x or something like that?

Anyway, I lead with that same Darkrai. (Void / Pulse / Punch / Thunder)

I run Sub over Thunder on mine. Helps with Mindgames, often allows a second Pulse to get in (or a safe FP), helps scout out opponent speed, and allows me to avoid Thunder Waves and WoWs. If my opponent makes a wrong move, they suffer heavily for it. I think its more useful than Thunder, primarily because Dark Pulse has the Same or more power after STAB vs anything other than Kyogre, Ho-oh, and other Darkrai, neither of which I'd stay in against unless I had a Sub. The flinch is also sexy. I won't divulge my whole team, but basically Thunder doesn't always help me because it isn't always raining.

I haven't seen anyone other than myself use scarf palkia on shoddy, but it's great to have around. It's faster than adamant ray after a DD which is a plus and it still 2hko's most bliss in the rain. Oh, and it ruins those darkrai leads (most of them happen to stay in).

I typically lead with Scarf Mewtwo. Self-Destruct/Aura Sphere/Ice Beam/Thunder.

Thunders CSogres back to hell (with a laugh if they try and Water Spout). Fast Self-Destruct is good, too. Plus being outright faster with no speed EVs than every other uber makes him a good revenger killer. He outspeeds all Deoxys (barring scarfers) and once DD'd Adamant Rayquaza and can easily line up an ohko on both. Useful if, for some reason, you let Rayquaza get a DD off.

How much damage would a Scarf Ogre's Water Spout do to 301 HP Modest Latias? She could be an interesting lead to counter Kyogre if it doesn't cripple her.

Well, wouldn't most people just use Thunder if they saw a Latias anyway?
Also, lol at people who use Water Spout at Palkia's 4x Water resist.

Why would they thunder? Para on it isn't so nice especially when you are scarfed anyway.

Wouldn't they ice beam?

Sorry, I phrased my question wrong. I meant bringing Latias in against a Kyogre locked into Water Spout. You could get a free turn to CM, or hit your opponent if you predict the switch (I would assume Kyogre wouldn't stay in).

I'm also thinking that a Calm Latias with max HP and SpDef EVs could be a viable alternative to Blissey. It hits harder, and I believe it even takes special attacks better than Bliss, although the extra weaknesses do hurt.

I start with Latias to stop the insanity that's called Kyogre and Palkia. She also destroys Specstwo leads pretty nicely. With some EVs Latias can also take a Draco Meteor from a Scarf Palkia and easily OHKO with Dragon Pulse, or just sit there Recovering the hit and then Calm Minding on it, although that isn't recommended.

And according to SePh, Darkrai leads are practically nonexistant due to Mewtwo/ScarfOgre leads

Choice Scarf seems like the single biggest change to the Uber metagame, other then the new Pokemon and physical/special split that is...

I can see a Cherrim/Groudon or Jumpluff/Groudon team working nicely, finding a use for Groudon is fun since everyone is crazy about ScarfOgre these days...

Were Chlorophyll/Swif Swimmers very popular in Adv? Didnt play that gen.

One other thing I want to say about ubers is to be very careful when choicing a move with Choice items. Ubers are more fast paced than standards and one wrong move (Read: Rayquaza) can cost you the game

Yeah, I'm just wondering why the hell everyone seems to start with CScarf Kyogre.

Maybe its because I learned the hard way the first time, but now that CScarf Kyogre is everywhere its easy to counter.

I don't even see the appeal to begin with. With all the Pressure Pokemon it can usually only utilize Water Spout 3 times tops, and if it switches in on anything other than WoW or Ice Beam it loses a lot of WS power (ir if its Thunder Wave, a load of speed).

That and everything in Ubers is tailored to Special Defense. Doesn't make sense to me. Then again, I don't have any interest in using it. Ubers requires versatility and a switchout on Kyogres part leaves the next pokemon too open to getting decimated.

That's just one man's opinion. No doubt it causes other leads to switch out, but when it doesn't get a quick KO it tends to help your opponent a lot more.

Exeggutor was the exclusive Ubers Chlorophyller, used to kill Groudon. Swift Swimmers were rare, because they were all Water types and thus made for bad coverage with Kyogre.

I feel this deserves a mention:

A lot of Ubers focus on outspeeding other Ubers. In a rush to boost speed and an attack stat, the otherwise credible defenses of many Ubers are left untouched, making them more susceptible to attack.

Where am I leading this to? Trick Room.

On one of my Uber teams I run a Trick Room Mew. I imagine Bronzong could also work, to a lesser extent.

Anyway, with Trick Room all of a sudden the 252 Speed spreads become worthless for a few turns. Its as if they were only given 256 maximum EVs. Meanwhile, your slow Ubers can focus on building HP or a defense while maximizing an attack stat with a boosting nature. Basically replace OU Rhyperior with Groudon and that's the effect.

In short, Trick Room is dangerous to Ubers. A lot of them rely solely on speed to be effective.

Yeah, I got 4-0ed by a TR Uber team once. I saw a goddamn Cress on it.
I was a bit confused.

What exactly does Cresselia DO in Ubers?
