Animal Crossing: New Leaf

Hey, how do you get the fishing rod early on? The only things the Nooklings have besides industrial paper, wrapping paper, and the fortune cookie are the shovel and the net.

Also, I got the Kart (Standard body, Standard Wheels, and Standard Glider; Mario's colors) and Captain Olimar's S.S. Dolphin from the Fortune cookies. Cool stuff.

You get the tools you do not get from Nook by doing small chores for Isabelle. Talk to her at the counter in Town Hall.

If you talk to Isabelle at her desk repeatedly she gives you requests that act as a tutorial to the game sorta. One of them she asks you if you want to fish or to catch bugs. Pick fish if you don't have the rod, and she'll sell you one if you don't have it for 500 bells. Also finishing the entire tutorial gets you a watering can, so its worth finishing.

Otherwise, just ask around in IRC and go buy someones fishing rod that they don't need.
 
I put down The Roost today and if Vesta wasn't where she was, I definitely would've built it there. One of the best locations in the village.

Zoning board pls. Also legit paths that you can pave yourself. Also, let me shake trees while holding a parasol again, as illogical as it is. And add sunscreen so I don't have to wear the no-tan hats on the island if I don't want to (although they're awesome); I have a wig.

Everything else is perfect!

Is there any way to speed up the process of getting new characters / getting rid of current characters? Also, what can you do to keep characters from leaving, besides just telling them not to leave when they ask?

I spent a couple hours spreading a brick pattern over my entire village, so now I can run wherever I want! ahahahaha! Grass deterioration and crappy island fruit trees (I didn't know they were only 250 Bells) made me decide to chop down every tree in existence and cover grass with patterns.
 
I don't think so, but when you do get one to move: use the reset trick (look it up, but tl;dr: on the day someone is scheduled to move on, don't load the village, make a new character, reset if there's a prbolem, and repeatedly do this until you get someone you like) to reroll who you get and where they live.
 
Planting tons of flowers helps keep your grass healthy and looks better than bricks everywhere.
Your town sounds like it would be kind of depressing to be in.

Ooops forgot to mention: I have bricks over all the green grass, and flowers over everything else (took forever to get all the flowers). This way I can preserve all the grass while growing grass through watering flowers. I'm prepping to get a perfect town rating.
 
I got the crown yesterday! I don't like the royal crown so I didn't bother buying it when it showed up. But I like the little one so I got it. The island is so silly; I made all my bells back and more later, and I have like 16.5m sitting around in my bank.

Too bad you still can't wear hats with wigs. I traded for the Hair Bow Wig online (which I've wanted since before the game) and I'd love to wear them together.
 
quick question; if i lay down a pattern and then change the pattern in my inventory, does the pattern on the ground change, and does this happen for someone who lays down a pattern in your town (if that's possible?)?
 
During the day, you can give Dr. Shrunk food and he will perform for you and give you an emotion. On Saturday nights, K.K. Slider plays songs and you will get a copy of one. Other nights have him DJ and you can dance.
