Anyone else hate what Smogon has become?

Going back like five years, there used to be a lot more excitement in the community. Even from an outsiders perspective you could really see and feel that all the people who were making the decisions actually cared about Pokemon, but more importantly the Smogon community as a whole.

Now all the people in positions of power have been in positions of power for like half a decade at least and you can tell they aren't as passionate as they were before. But they still hold the keys to the kingdom and refuse to give it up (as powerless people always want to hold onto "power").

It's no secret that the current Metagame is something a lot of people dread too, myself included. But wouldn't it make more sense to bring in fresh blood that have passion for the things they love, even if the "old guard" doesn't love it?


Everything feels hollow and everyone is going through the motions. If you're new, you won't be able to see it, and that is exactly why the new people should be placed ahead of the people who made smogon the way it currently is.
 
It would appear that supremefashion has not taken the smogoff shitposting community very kindly and has acted rather angrily.

Rugi look what you have caused. At around 6:42 of the morning rugi the shitposter made this thread with a rather clickbaitable name, using it to then deliver a regular picture and cause a sense of shock to the common watcher. This, in turn, should try to make the brain produce endorphins which would have resulted in the funny, albeit this not being the case.

Supreme fashion, not too pleased by the interaction, proceeded to give some constructive criticism of its own

About 1 minute from the post of the critism, supreme fashion made this thread, meant to be the outlet of the mental injustices that it went through going through smogoff. It completely understandable and the smogoff community will apologize as a whole, promising to make our jokes be funny and our shitposts to be even more shit.

Okay, but if you go back one more year you end up in 2015 LOL, probably the single worst year of Smogon history

Bro Smogon's been in this state for a long time now, it was just as cliquey 5 years ago as it is now, probably worse so, and I can't remember any point while being on this website for the past 9 years where people weren't complaining about the current OU meta. Honestly, the casual scene is probably better than it ever has been since r/stunfisk has blown up in popularity as a more laid-back alternative.

Sorry I thought this was in Smogoff so I will post more than a one-liner.

Looking at things through rose-tinted lenses often ignores the dark realities of the situation from years ago. Even from a decade's experience, there were good times I could outline, but more often than not they did not outweigh the bad.
