RU Araquanid (Revamp) (QC 3/3) (GP 2/2)

Status
Not open for further replies.
[OVERVIEW]

Araquanid stands out as one of the most viable setters of Sticky Web thanks to its offensive presence and matchup against key entry hazard removers such as Mega Blastoise, Donphan, and Xatu. A great ability in Water Bubble, a solid Special Defense stat, and resistances to key types in the tier such as Ground, Fighting, and Water also make it capable of handling common threats in the metagame such as Nidoqueen, Slowbro, and Houndoom. However, Araquanid is quite slow and has pitiful physical bulk. A weakness to Stealth Rock also hampers its longevity by quite a bit. Its non-Water-type moves are not very powerful, and thus its movepool contains very few viable attacking options. Lastly, it faces competition as a Sticky Web setter from Ribombee and Galvantula, which are much faster and have similar offensive presence, and the former can also beat other entry hazard removers such as Tsareena that Araquanid has trouble with. Their higher Speed stats also help them fare a bit better against Mega Blastoise.

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========

Araquanid makes for a good setter of Sticky Web thanks to its good power and solid defensive attributes. Liquidation is a strong STAB move capable of easily 2HKOing common entry hazard removers such as Donphan and Sigilyph. Magic Coat is capable of bouncing back status moves that can disrupt Araquanid and its team, particularly Taunt. Mirror Coat is used in the last slot to take advantage of Araquanid's naturally good special bulk and to beat Mega Blastoise.

Set Details
========

Water Bubble boosts the power of Liquidation. Splash Plate complements this, giving Araquanid a significant offensive presence. An Adamant nature and maximum Attack investment increase Araquanid's damage output further still. Maximum Speed investment allows Araquanid to outspeed defensive Pokemon such as Porygon2 and Vaporeon. Once Sticky Web is up, it can also outspeed Florges.

Usage Tips
========

Sticky Web should be set when the foe switches out, the opponent's entry hazard remover has fainted, or the current matchup is generally in Araquanid's favor. The threat of Liquidation can also be used to pressure the opponent into giving Araquanid chances to set up Sticky Web. Unlike other setters of Sticky Web such as Ribombee and Galvantula, Araquanid can more easily set it up again if it had been removed earlier in the match thanks to its bulk. Said bulk also allows Araquanid can to switch into entry hazard removers in the tier such as Mega Blastoise and Donphan, and while Knock Off from the latter can do quite a bit of damage to Araquanid, it resists Earthquake and Ice Shard. Magic Coat is best utilized when you predict the opposing Pokemon will use a status move, particularly Stealth Rock from Pokemon like Registeel and Metagross, and Toxic from the likes of Mandibuzz. Mirror Coat is best utilized against special attackers such as Ribombee, Salazzle, and especially Mega Blastoise, which can be 2HKOed by its own reflected Dark Pulse.

Team Options
========

Slow but powerful wallbreakers such as Tyrantrum, Honchkrow, Bewear, and Machamp heavily benefit from the Speed drops that Sticky Web gives to the opponent's team. To make Rapid Spin usage a bit more difficult, spinblockers such as Mismagius and Froslass can be utilized as partners to this Araquanid set. Similarly, Pokemon capable of handling common Defog users such as Passimian and Taunt users such as Honchkrow and Mismagius are good partners to this Araquanid set. Additional entry hazard setters such as Roserade and Metagross can complement both Araquanid and other teammates by giving them additional wallbreaking power. These two Pokemon also benefit a lot from Sticky Web.

[SET]
name: Substitute + Toxic
move 1: Substitute
move 2: Toxic
move 3: Liquidation
move 4: Leech Life / Protect
item: Leftovers
ability: Water Bubble
nature: Adamant
evs: 188 HP / 252 Atk / 68 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========

The combination of Substitute and Toxic allows Araquanid to effectively stall out common threats such as Slowbro, Mega Blastoise, and Mandibuzz. Liquidation serves as a strong STAB move backed by Araquanid's Water Bubble ability and is capable of hitting a wide range of Pokemon in the RU metagame neutrally. Leech Life is mainly used to hit Grass-types such as Shaymin, Tangela, and Mega Sceptile; the health recovery from the move is a bonus. Protect can be used over Leech Life to gain free Toxic damage and Leftovers recovery for a turn. However, this tends to leave Araquanid walled by Grass-types as a result.

Set Details
========

68 EVs in Speed allow Araquanid to outspeed Pokemon with base 50 Speed such as Registeel and Donphan. Maximum Attack investment makes Araquanid hit as hard as possible. Leftovers offsets the health reduction Substitute provides over time, and 188 HP EVs allow it to regain more health from Leftovers.
It also works well alongside Leech Life to provide additional healing capability.

Usage Tips
========

Use Substitute when you expect a bulky Pokemon such as Slowbro or Mandibuzz to come into play, and then use Toxic to attempt to outstall them. Araquanid's typing should be utilized for opportunities to switch in on Pokemon like Nidoqueen, Bronzong, and Mega Blastoise. Liquidation's higher power via Water Bubble and better coverage mean that it is usually the more reliable attacking move over Leech Life. When the Pokemon you are trying to outstall resists Liquidation, you should use Toxic instead to apply better pressure. If Protect is used in the last slot, use it when you expect the foe to break Araquanid's Substitute, or as a way to scout for potential moves that may threaten Araquanid.

Team Options
========

Offensive Pokemon such as Metagross, Machamp, and Houndoom appreciate Araquanid's ability to wear down bulky threats such as Slowbro and Mandibuzz. Cleaners such as Zygarde-10%, Salazzle, and Swellow can take advantage of Araquanid's ability to open holes in the opponent's team. More physically defensive Pokemon such as Rhyperior, Slowbro, and Torterra can help out with Araquanid's weakness to strong physical moves. Lastly, entry hazard removers such as Sigilyph, Donphan, and Tsareena help with Araquanid's vulnerability to Stealth Rock and Spikes, allowing it to set up more Substitutes throughout a match.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

A set utilizing Spider Web / Liquidation / Leech Life or Toxic / Rest with a Splash Plate or Metronome can be useful, as it can safely remove certain defensive threats in the tier such as Slowbro, Milotic, and Tangela from the match to clear the way for teammates. However, this set isn't popular because one of its main targets, Milotic, is rather niche and Substitute + Toxic can already handle most of its other targets. More offensive sets without Sticky Web, such as a Choice Band set, can seem like good options considering the power of Araquanid's STAB Liquidation, but these sets are often outclassed by Golisopod, which has access to priority moves and stronger non-Water-type moves. These sets also have trouble breaking through bulky Pokemon that resist Water.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Water-resistant Pokemon**: Pokemon such as Noivern, Shaymin, and Virizion can usually take a hit from Araquanid and hit back hard, with Noivern OHKOing it occasionally. More niche Water-resistant or -immune Pokemon such as Milotic and Seismitoad can also work well, with the former even having Refresh to nullify Toxic.

**Faster Physical Attackers**: Pokemon such as Tyrantrum, Toxicroak, and Bewear prey on Araquanid's poor physical bulk and usually don't take much from any of its moves. Notably, Toxicroak is immune to Araquanid's Water-type STAB moves thanks to Dry Skin, resists Leech Life, and is unaffected by Toxic.

**Flying-type Pokemon**: Pokemon such as Noivern, Yanmega, and Swellow, while unable to switch into Araquanid, can easily revenge kill it with strong STAB moves. Mantine is a more defensive option that is also immune to Water-type attacks thanks to Water Absorb.

**Electric-type Pokemon**: Raikou outspeeds Araquanid and can OHKO it with Stealth Rock up; it can 2HKO Araquanid otherwise. Mega Ampharos is a more niche option but also resists Araquanid's Liquidation and doesn't even need Stealth Rock to OHKO Araquanid.

**Residual Damage**: Entry hazards such as Spikes and Stealth Rock can wear down Araquanid quickly due to its lack of reliable recovery and weakness to the latter. While it's immune to burns, it is very much vulnerable to Toxic because of said lack of recovery.

Friendly am check here. Implement what you want.
[OVERVIEW]

  • Araquanid has a great ability in Water Bubble, granting it an immunity to burns, which is helpful for a Pokemon that often runs physical moves, turning its Fire neutrality into a resistance, as well as doubling the power of its Water-type STAB.
  • Araquanid has a solid Special Defense stat, as well as typing that grants it resistances to key types in the tier such as Ground, Fighting, and Water. You should probably give some examples of Pokemon it checks. That would make this point a bit stronger.
  • It also stands out as the most viable setter of Sticky Web thanks to its offensive presence and match-up against key hazard removers such as Mega Blastoise, Donphan, and Sigilyph. Most of this is fine, but Sigiliph OHKOs Araquanid with Air Slash after Stealth Rock. Personally, I would choose another example. Also, Ribombee is plenty viable. You should make a point about how it gives Araquanid slight competition.
  • However, Araquanid is quite slow and has pitiful physical bulk.
  • A weakness to Stealth Rock also hampers its longevity by quite a bit.
  • Its power on moves that are not Water-type is quite underwhelming.

Moves
========
  • The combination of Substitute and Toxic is the bread and butter of this set, allowing Araquanid to effectively stall out common threats such as Slowbro, Mega Blastoise, and Mandibuzz. I don't know if the GP team like phrases like "bread and butter". I remember I tried writing on Hitmontop's NU analysis that Rapid Spin is the crux of the set. Rabia said that drove GP members nuts. My point is: maybe reword this sentence so that GP doesn't hate you. lol.
  • Liquidation serves as a strong STAB move backed by Araquanid's Water Bubble ability. It also has wide coverage in RU.
  • Leech Life is mainly used to hit Grass-types such as Shaymin, Tangela, and Mega Sceptile. The slight health recovery from the move is a bonus.
  • Protect can be utilized over Leech Life so as to gain free Toxic damage and Leftovers recovery for a turn. Maybe mention some downsides of running Protect over Leech Life. Being walled by Grass-types is a big reason.
Set Details
========

  • 68 EVs in Speed allow Araquanid to outspeed Pokemon with base 50 Speed such as Registeel and Donphan.
  • 188 HP EVs allow Araquanid to take more hits, and it is also a HP number that takes less from Stealth Rock.
  • The rest of the EVs are used to make Araquanid hit as hard as possible, making it less passive.
  • Water Bubble increases the power of Araquanid's Water STAB and makes it immune to burns, which are both helpful to this set in particular. The boost in Liquidation and burn immunity helps ANY Araquanid set, not just this one.
  • Leftovers is the item used on this set to offset the health reduction Substitute provides over time. And it gives a little extra recovery on top of Leech Life.
Usage Tips
========

  • Utilize Substitute when you expect a bulky Pokemon such as Slowbro or Mandibuzz is about to come into play. One should then use Toxic to start the stalling out.
  • When the Pokemon you are trying to stall out resists Liquidation, one should use Leech Life instead to imply offensive pressure.
  • If Protect is used in the last slot instead, use it when a move you expect to break your Substitute is used, or as a way to scout for potential moves that may threaten Araquanid.
  • This section is extremely bare bones. There's surely more ways to utilize Araquanid than this? When should you bring Araquanid into battle? Should hazards be cleared? Should you use it early- or late-game and how? What is Araquanid's role in the metagame? None of these questions are answered.
Team Options
========

  • Pokemon such as Metagross, Machamp, and Houndoom appreciate Araquanid's ability to wear down bulky threats such as Slowbro and Mandibuzz.
  • A more Physically defensive Pokemon such as Rhyperior, Slowbro, and Torterra can help out with Araquanid's weakness to strong physical moves. There's better physically defensive Pokemon than Torterra in RU.
  • Entry hazard removers such as Sigilyph, Donphan, and Tsareena help with Araquanid's vulnerability to Stealth Rock and Spikes, allowing it to set up more Substitutes throughout a match.
  • Ok, more Pokemon can benefit from Araquanid than this. What Pokemon appreciate its Ground-, Water- and Fighting-resistances? It can also soft check Mega Blastoise. There has to be several Pokemon that benefit from this. What Pokemon appreciate Araquanid soft checking Scald users and Grass-types? What can help Araquanid deal with Electric- and Flying types? My point is that this section is also very bare bones and this is starting to look concerning.

  • Toxic is used in the last slot to hit Pokemon that Araquanid can't deal too much damage to with Liquidation such as Slowbro and Tangela.
  • Maybe make a bullet for Leech Life here?
Set Details
========

  • Water Bubble is Araquanid's ability of choice to boost the power of its Water-type STAB. Splash Plate compliments this, giving Araquanid significant offensive presence.
  • Adamant nature and max Attack EVs is meant to give Araquanid as much offensive pressure as possible.
  • Max Speed EVs make it so Araquanid can outspeed the likes of Donphan and Rhyperior, beating them in terms of setting hazards first, and putting pressure on the former in particular. The Sub Toxic set already outspeeds these two. You should talk about what other Pokemon it outspeeds.
Usage Tips
========

  • The threat of Liquidation should be used to pressure the other team into giving Araquanid chances to set up Sticky Web.
  • Unlike other setters of Sticky Web such as?, Araquanid can safely set up Sticky Web again provided it has been removed earlier in the match. Use this to your advantage, such as setting up Sticky Web again after the entry hazard remover on the opponent's team has been knocked out.
  • Araquanid's typing should also be used to its advantage. It can easily switch into most entry hazard removers in the tier such as Donphan and Mega Blastoise because of its typing and smack them with Liquidation or cripple them with Toxic.
  • Toxic should be used usually when no other options are available and as a means to cripple common switch-ins to Araquanid. Such as?
  • Magic Coat is best utilized when you predict a status move will be used by your opponent. Stealth Rock users such as Registeel and Metagross, and Toxic from Pokemon such as Mandibuzz and Bronzong are common examples of status move users that Magic Coat is good against.
  • When should Araquanid set Sticky Web?
Team Options
========

  • Slow but powerful wallbreakers such as Tyrantrum, Bewear, and Machamp heavily benefit from the speed drops that Sticky Web gives to the opponent's team.
  • To make hazard removal a bit more difficult, spinblockers such as Mismagius can be utilized as partners to this Araquanid set.
  • Additional entry hazard setters such as Roserade and Metagross can complement both Araquanid and other teammates by giving them additional wallbreaking power. These two Pokemon also benefit quite well from Sticky Web as well.
  • Again, more Pokemon benefit from Araquanid than this. And Araquanid needs more support than this.

  • More offensive sets without Sticky Web such as Choice Band can seem like a good option considering the power of its STAB Liquidation, but often these sets are done much better by Golisopod, who has access to priority moves, as well as stronger power on non-Water-type moves.

I feel like the set order should be reversed. Araquanid's role as a bulky Sticky Web setter is more valued than a Sub Toxic set.

  • Leech Life can be used alternatively to hit these Pokemon while keeping offensive presence. youre too weak to dent actually bulky mons and frailer mons like tsareena/rose you beat with water stab anyways
  • mirror coat lets u actually beat stoise and take advantage of ur special bulk

I'd probably mention Houndoom as an example instead.) as a result. Araquanid also stands out as one of the most viable setter of Sticky Web thanks to its offensive presence and match-up against key hazard removers such as Mega Blastoise, Donphan, and Xatu. Moves

Araquanid makes for a good setter of Sticky Web thanks to its offensive pressure and solid defensive attributes. Liquidation is a strong STAB move capable of easily 2HKOing common entry hazard removers such as Donphan and Sigilyph. Magic Coat is a good utility move capable of bouncing back moves that can disrupt Araquanid and its team such as entry hazards, status moves, and most importantly Taunt. Mirror Coat is used in the last slot to take advantage of Araquanid's naturally good Special bulk and allows it beat Mega Blastoise.

Set Details
========

Water Bubble is Araquanid's ability of choice to boost the power of its Water-type STAB. Splash Plate compliments this, giving Araquanid significant offensive presence. Adamant nature and max Attack EVs is meant to give Araquanid as much offensive pressure as possible. Max Speed EVs make it so Araquanid can outspeed the likes of Porygon2 and Vaporeon. Once Sticky Web is up, it can also outspeed -1 Florges.

Usage Tips
========

Sticky Web should be set when the opponent switches out, when the foe's entry hazard remover is knocked out, or when the current match-up generally suits Araquanid's favor. The threat of Liquidation can also be used to pressure the other team into giving Araquanid chances to set up Sticky Web. Unlike other setters of Sticky Web such as Ribombee or Galvantula, Araquanid can more easily set up Sticky Web again provided it has been removed earlier in the match thanks to its bulk. Use this to your advantage, such as setting up Sticky Web again after the entry hazard remover on the opponent's team has been knocked out. Araquanid can switch into most entry hazard removers in the tier such as Donphan and Mega Blastoise because of its bulk and Mirror Coat for the latter and while Knock Off from the former can do quite a bit to Araquanid it naturally resists Ground and doesn't take much from Ice Shard. Magic Coat is best utilized when you predict a status move will be used by your opponent. Stealth Rock users such as Registeel and Metagross, and Toxic from Pokemon such as Mandibuzz and Bronzong are common examples of status move users that Magic Coat is good against. Mirror Coat is best utilized against Special Attackers such as Mega Blastoise and Ribombee, as a reflected Dark Pulse from the former can easily 2HKO for example.

Team Options
========

Similarly, Pokemon capable of handling common Defog users such as Passimian and Taunt users such as Honchkrow and Mismagius are good partners to Araquanid. Additional entry hazard setters such as Roserade and Metagross can complement both Araquanid and other teammates by giving them additional wallbreaking power. These two Pokemon also benefit quite well from Sticky Web as well.

Moves
========

The combination of Substitute and Toxic is vital to this set, allowing Araquanid to effectively stall out common threats such as Slowbro, Mega Blastoise, and Mandibuzz. Liquidation serves as a strong STAB move backed by Araquanid's Water Bubble ability and is a move capable of hitting a wide range of Pokemon in the RU metagame. Leech Life is mainly used to hit Grass-types such as Shaymin, Tangela, and Mega Sceptile. The slight health recovery from the move is a bonus. Protect can be utilized over Leech Life so as to gain free Toxic damage and Leftovers recovery for a turn. However, this tends to leave it walled against Grass-types as a result.

Set Details
========

68 EVs in Speed allow Araquanid to outspeed Pokemon with base 50 Speed such as Registeel and Donphan. 188 HP EVs allow Araquanid to take more hits, and it is also a HP number that takes less from Stealth Rock. The rest of the EVs are used to make Araquanid hit as hard as possible, making it less passive. Leftovers is the item used on this set to offset the health reduction Substitute provides over time. It can also combine well with Leech Life to provide additional healing capability.

Usage Tips
========

Utilize Substitute when you expect a bulky Pokemon such as Slowbro or Mandibuzz is about to come into play. One should then use Toxic to start the stalling out. Araquanid's typing should be utilized for opportunities to switch in. Pokemon that Araquanid is capable of switching in on because of its typing include Nidoqueen, Bronzong, and Mega Blastoise. Liquidation's higher power and better coverage means that most of the time it is the more reliable attacking move. When the Pokemon you are trying to stall out resists Liquidation, one should use Toxic instead to apply better pressure. If Protect is used in the last slot instead, use it when a move you expect to break your Substitute is used, or as a way to scout for potential moves that may threaten Araquanid.

Team Options
========

Pokemon such as Metagross, Machamp, and Houndoom appreciate Araquanid's ability to wear down bulky threats such as Slowbro and Mandibuzz. Cleaners such as Zygarde-10%, Salazzle, and Swellow also appreciate Araquanid's ability to open holes in the opponent's team. A more physically defensive Pokemon such as Rhyperior, Slowbro, and Torterra can help out with Araquanid's weakness to strong physical moves. Lastly, entry hazard removers such as Sigilyph, Donphan, and Tsareena help with Araquanid's vulnerability to Stealth Rock and Spikes, allowing it to set up more Substitutes throughout a match.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

Araquanid's movepool is rather shallow and as such it doesn't have much other options. A set utilizing Spider Web / Liquidation / Leech Life or Toxic / Rest with a Splash Plate or Metronome can be useful as it can safely remove certain defensive threats in the tier such as Slowbro, Milotic, and Tangela out of match to clear the way for teammates. However this set has fallen out of favor since one of its main targets, Milotic, is more niche, and Substitute + Toxic can already handle most of its other targets. More offensive sets without Sticky Web such as Choice Band can seem like a good option considering the power of its STAB Liquidation, but often these sets are done much better by Golisopod, who has access to priority moves, as well as stronger power on non-Water-type moves. This set also has trouble breaking through bulky Water-type resists.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Water-resistant Pokemon**: Pokemon such as Noivern, Shaymin, and Virizion can usually take a hit from Araquanid and hit back hard, sometimes even OHKOing it in the case of Noivern. More niche Water resists such as Seismitoad or Milotic can also work well, the latter even having Refresh to nullify Toxic.

**Faster Physical Attackers**: Pokemon such as Tyrantrum, Toxicroak, and Bewear prey on Araquanid's poor physical defense and usually don't take much from any of Araquanid's moves. Toxicroak in particular is notable as it is flat out immune to Araquanid's Water-type STAB thanks to Dry Skin, resists Leech Life, and is unaffected by Toxic.

**Electric-type Pokemon**: Raikou is a solid check to Araquanid since it outspeeds and can easily 2HKO it, even OHKO it with Stealth Rock. Mega Ampharos is a more niche option but in addition also resists Araquanid's Liquidation and doesn't even need Stealth Rock to KO Araquanid.

**Residual Damage**: Entry hazards such as Spikes and Stealth Rock can wear down Araquanid fast due to its lack of reliable recovery and weakness to the latter. While it's immune to burns, it is very much vulnerable to Toxic for its previously mentioned lack of recovery.

[OVERVIEW]

Araquanid has a great ability in Water Bubble, granting it an immunity to burns, which is helpful for a Pokemon that often runs physical moves, turning its Fire neutrality into a resistance, as well as and doubling the power of its Water-type STAB moves. It also has a solid Special Defense stat, as well as a typing that grants it resistances to key types in the tier such as Ground, Fighting, and Water. It is capable of handling some common threats in the metagame such as Nidoqueen, Slowbro, and Houndoom as a result. (Could move "as a result" to the beginning of the sentence for flow but I don't believe it's necessary) Araquanid also stands out as one of the most viable setters of Sticky Web, (AC) thanks to its offensive presence and match-up against key hazard removers such as Mega Blastoise, Donphan, and Xatu. However, Araquanid is quite slow and has pitiful physical bulk. A weakness to Stealth Rock also hampers its longevity by quite a bit. Its power on moves that are not Water-type is quite underwhelming, (AC) and its movepool contains very few viable attacking options. Lastly, it faces competition as a Sticky Web setter from Ribombee and Galvantula, which are much faster and have quite similar offensive presence, the former of which allowing allows them to beat other hazard removers such as Tsareena that Araquanid has trouble with. Their speed also makes them a bit better against Mega Blastoise.

Mirror Coat is used in the last slot to take advantage of Araquanid's naturally good special bulk and allows it to beat Mega Blastoise.

Set Details

Water Bubble is Araquanid's ability of choice to boost the power of its Water-type STAB move. Splash Plate complements this, giving Araquanid a significant offensive presence. An Adamant nature and maximum Attack investment is meant to give Araquanid as much of an offensive presence as possible. Maximum Speed investment allows Araquanid to outspeed the likes of Porygon2 and Vaporeon. Once Sticky Web is up, it can also outspeed -1 (redundant) Florges.

Usage Tips
========

Sticky Web should be set when the opponent switches out, the opponent's entry hazard remover is knocked out, or the current matchup is generally in Araquanid's favor. The threat of Liquidation can also be used to pressure the other team into giving Araquanid chances to set up Sticky Web. Unlike other setters of Sticky Web such as Ribombee or and Galvantula, Araquanid can more easily set up Sticky Web again if it had been removed earlier in the match (RC) thanks to its bulk. Use this to your advantage by making moves such as setting up Sticky Web again after the entry hazard remover on the opponent's team has been knocked out. Araquanid can switch into entry hazard removers in the tier such as Mega Blastoise and Donphan because of its bulk and Mirror Coat for the former, and while Knock Off from the latter can do quite a bit to Araquanid, it naturally resists Ground and doesn't take much from Ice Shard. Magic Coat is best utilized when you predict the opposing Pokemon will use a status move will be used by your opponent. Stealth Rock users such as Registeel and Metagross and Toxic users such as Mandibuzz and Bronzong are common examples of status move users that Magic Coat is good against. Mirror Coat is best utilized against special attackers such as Mega Blastoise and Ribombee, as a reflected Dark Pulse from the former can easily 2HKO it, for example.

Team Options
========

Moves
========

The combination of Substitute and Toxic is vital to this set, allowing Araquanid to effectively stall out common threats such as Slowbro, Mega Blastoise, and Mandibuzz. Liquidation serves as a strong STAB move backed by Araquanid's Water Bubble ability and is capable of hitting a wide range of Pokemon in the RU metagame. Leech Life is mainly used to hit Grass-types such as Shaymin, Tangela, and Mega Sceptile; the slight health recovery from the move is a bonus. Protect can be utilized over Leech Life to gain free Toxic damage and Leftovers recovery for a turn. However, this tends to leave it Araquanid walled against Grass-types as a result.

Set Details
========

68 EVs in Speed allow Araquanid to outspeed Pokemon with base 50 Speed such as Registeel and Donphan. 188 HP EVs allow Araquanid to take more hits and minimizes Stealth Rock damage. (324 is divisible by 4 so not really, probably move this sentence after the next one and reword it to make this one about the leftover evs instead) The rest of the EVs are used to make Maximum Attack investment makes Araquanid hit as hard as possible, making it less passive. Leftovers is the item used on this set to offset the health reduction Substitute provides over time. It can also combine well with Leech Life to provide additional healing capability.

Usage Tips
========

Utilize Substitute when you expect a bulky Pokemon such as Slowbro or Mandibuzz to come into play. One should then use Toxic to begin attempting to outstall them. Araquanid's typing should be utilized for opportunities to switch in (RP) on Pokemon that Araquanid is capable of switching in on because of its typing include like Nidoqueen, Bronzong, and Mega Blastoise. Liquidation's higher power via Water Bubble and better coverage means mean that most of the time it is the more reliable attacking move. When the Pokemon you are trying to outstall resists Liquidation, you should use Toxic instead to apply better pressure. If Protect is used in the last slot instead, use it when a move you expect to break your Substitute is used, or as a way to scout for potential moves that may threaten Araquanid.

Team Options
========

=============

Araquanid's movepool is rather shallow, (AC) and as such therefore it doesn't have many other options. However, this set has fallen out of favor isn't popular because one of its main targets, Milotic, has become more is rather (no references to metagame shifts) niche and Substitute + Toxic can already handle most of its other targets. More offensive sets without Sticky Web such as Choice Band can seem like a good option considering the power of Araquanid's STAB Liquidation, but often these sets are done much better by Golisopod, which has access to priority moves as well as stronger power on non-Water-type moves. This set also has trouble breaking through bulky Pokemon that resist Water-type moves.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Water-resistant Pokemon**: Pokemon such as Noivern, Shaymin, and Virizion can usually take a hit from Araquanid and hit back hard, sometimes even OHKOing it in the case of Noivern. More niche Water-resistant (AH) or -immune Pokemon such as Seismitoad or Milotic and Seismitoad can also work well, with the latter former even having Refresh to nullify Toxic.

**Faster Physical Attackers**: Pokemon such as Tyrantrum, Toxicroak, and Bewear prey on Araquanid's poor physical Defense bulk and usually don't take much from any of Araquanid's its moves. Toxicroak in particular is notable, as it is flat out immune to Araquanid's Water-type STAB moves thanks to Dry Skin, resists Leech Life, and is unaffected by Toxic.

**Electric-type Pokemon**: Raikou is a solid check to Araquanid, since it outspeeds and can easily 2HKO it, even OHKOing it with Stealth Rock up.

While it's immune to burns, it is very much vulnerable to Toxic because of its previously mentioned lack of recovery.

Its power on moves that are not non-Water-type moves are not very powerful is quite underwhelming, and thus its movepool contains very few viable attacking options. Lastly, it faces competition as a Sticky Web setter from Ribombee and Galvantula, which are much faster and have similar offensive presence, and the former can also beat other entry hazard removers such as Tsareena that Araquanid has trouble with. Their higher Speed stats also makes help them fare a bit better against Mega Blastoise.

Araquanid makes for a good setter of Sticky Web thanks to its offensive presence (use a different phrase here; you already said this in the intro) and solid defensive attributes. Magic Coat is capable of bouncing back status moves that can disrupt Araquanid and its team, particularly such as entry hazards, status moves, and most importantly Taunt.
