Hey all [I was told to post in this thread], I lately introduced my 13 year old sister to the Pokemon Franchise, and she asked the question: Whats the best team to get through the game, which I'm assuming, doesn't count with migrating from the GBA games. I know that their isn't such a thing as a "best team", but what would be an effective team to get through Pokemon Platnium?

Persoanlly, I generally find Pokemon like the Macho family and Kadabra reliable (although Abra can be tough to evolve). Starly and its evos are decent and make a good flier later on, and Bibarel is the king of HM slaves.
 
Your starter is always a great keeper and the Starly line is extremely good since it learns relatively powerful moves early and standard play moves later on without any TMs needed. Gyarados is another strong pokemon depending on the starter chosen but requires some patience to get to level 20. Lord Jesseus's recommendations are good, too. Most pokemon can do fine in platinum since this generation hand holds you more than any other games prior. Those are just some of the better ones.

Zubat is surprisingly good if you don't want to use Starly. It's meh as Zubat, but Golbat works pretty well and if you caught it early it should be pretty easy to evolve it to Crobat. I actually held my Golbat's evolution off for a bit so it wouldn't overshadow my Prinplup.

Buizel/Floatzel is a good water type for ingame, the only downside is that Waterfall comes really late. Surf should suffice until then despite running off its lower Sp.Atk, and it can also learn Crunch and Ice Fang (Ice Punch if you can scrounge enough shards together) and if you really need physical water it gets Aqua Jet.

For HM slaves, in addition to Bibarel, get a Tropius. Those two cover all your transport needs.

Ok, I just recently got around to playing platinum because I want darkrai, so I'm finally going through the game to get national dex and beat E4 to get to it, but.. Giratina's my obstacle.

Can you rebattle legends in this game? I recall hearing about it a while back but can no longer find proof of it anywhere, and when I googled for it, I got no straight answers. I need to know, because I want a good Gira with nature + IV's but I don't want to waste time so I can get the darkrai mystery gift..
 
OK been looking through the analysis's on the main page and i can not find a good Special Wall that isnt Cress or Bliss or a Legend.
Most of the pokemon which have good Base Special Defence have got EVs in Defence.

So what is a good Specail Wall that isnt a Legend or Blissey???

When shoddy battle 2 comes out and we are able to do double battles, will they have a seperate tier list, or the same?

Snorlax is a great special wall and Tyranitar is good with the sandstorm boost. Just watch out for fighting moves.
 
Well, there are probably OU pokemon that are uber in doubles, or uber pokemon that could be OU in doubles.

Can I get hypnosis on a mew woth out XD gale of darkness? If yes how? If no, allow all the build suggestions for it.

Don't worry about rushing, you only need to get the member's pass before the deadline, you don't actually need to use it. Getting it only requires you to get to the TV station in Jubilife City, unlock the "Mystery Gift" option and download the member's pass over Nintendo's wi-fi connection. Once you've done that, you can use it at your leisure.

Tentacruel, Vaporeon, Tyranitar and Snorlax all possess good sp def and are useful on a team.

Ah, I thought I couldn't get it at all until AFTER the E4 or national. lol, I'll download that now then.. thanks. And thanks to sceats for the rebattle info too.
 
1 - Can the Member Card to access Newmoon Island be transferred from Platinum to D/P?

2 - If an egg is about to hatch and you trade it, does the steps reset or will the egg hatch quickly for the recipient?
 
Is it true that Omanyte and Kabuto are unobtainable in Platinum? Or their respective fossils, moreso? I've looked up some Pokedexes, and they all say that's true, but my guide does not. Would I have to trade Omanyte or Kabuto from Diamond or Pearl or transfer them to get them?
 
I have a Porygon2 on my team. (for Gyarados and Salamence) I'm trying to choose between Toxic, Thunder Wave, and Magic Coat. My first choice was Magic Coat, because my Blissey and Togekiss carry the other two.

Is it a good choice?

They're in Platinum. The only fossils missing in Platinum are either Shieldon or Cranidos and that's determined by if your ID number is odd or even.

You can't transfer the card at all, so no. And the egg's step counter doesn't reset, so it'll hatch fast.
 
This is what happened recently in a couple of battles:

This all happened in ONE turn

Peachfuzz switched in Gardevoir!
Gardevoir Traced Poliwrath's Water Absorb!
Opponent switched in Claydol!

Opponent switched in Salamence!
Salamence's intimidate cut Flygon's attack!
Peachfuzz switched in Scizor!

Should Gardevoir have Traced Claydol's ability Levitate? Should Salamence have Intimidated Scizor? How is switching order determined? Is this the correct way that abilities and switches are supposed to occur?
