Is there any way to check the level 1 stats of a Pokémon? Like I keep getting 6 and 7s with really bad ivs, so I guess a good iv would have at least 8? But I can only find base stats not level 1 stats.

Are babies worth it?

Yay, first post, though I've been stalking this site for a while.

I'm interested in a Roselia (IRL) for my OU team, so I'm breeding for it. I was wondering if it was worth it to go for the Budew, or whether Roselia + lv1 Stone evolve was better.

Since this isn't Fire Emblem, I'm thinking the latter, but I thought I'd check.

Thanks!

You can't really check ivs at level 1. But you can check the characteristic that applies to the ivs you would like. Other than that you need to either
A) Level up the pokemon tracking the Evs it gets and the stat raises
B) Check in the wi fi room.

I know, I just couldn't be bothered levelling them up with rare candies everytime. At least if I knew the potential stat was between 6-8 I could get rid of all the 6s and 7s and only level up and check the 8s. But all I'm getting is 7s..

The stats of a Pokemon depend on its species, level, Nature, EVs, and IVs. The Pokemon's past 'history' has no effect.
I haven't checked, but I expect Budew and Roselia get different egg moves.

Thanks very much for the quick reply! I checked, the only difference is that Roselia can learn Cotton Spore through breeding, while Budew can learn Extrasensory.

Neither one of those is very useful, so it doesn't really matter. Go with Roselia since you don't have to evolve it if you want to use it as a parent and you don't need to worry about giving the female an incense.

Occasionally I do this. For some nature/iv combinations, the stat is higher at level 1 when the IV is high (above 20), which can be used to disqualify certain pokemon. I'm sure a stat calculator would be able to tell you the level 1 stats of a given pokemon. Just lower the given IV until the stat changes. Or plug the level 1 stats into metalkid's calculator. If the IV comes up something like 1-16 at level 1, you know it's "bad" and that a +1 to that stat will probably yield a 17-31 score. This isn't much, but it will let you auto reject a lot of pokemon.

Also keep in mind that if the characteristic does not indicate a 31, it is not possible for that pokemon to have any 31's. If you're breeding for a near-perfect pokemon, you can also reject on that alone. Finally, the in game IV checker seems to cycle the highest IV's in a tie, rather then give them randomly. If you have multiple 31s, it's only necessary to talk to him until he repeats a stat to find them all out.

More posting.

In my quest for better bred Roselia/Roserade, I've put an above average ditto with a 26 speed IVs, holding a Power Anklet, in with a Roselia with a decent IV count but 31 IVs in SpAtack, holding a Power Lens. I've bred three baby Roselias, but only one has inherited the Mischievious 31 IVs. In fact, one has somehow missed the SpAtk IV and gained a 23 Defense IV as its highest.
...What?
I have done ditto+pokemon both holding Power items with 5 different pokemon, as well as bred 500+ babies like this with varying parents with no problem.

Help?

There is still uncertainty on the exact Power Item mechanics, in particular the behaviour when both parents are holding power items..

I'm relatively new to competitive battling ( I've mostly been battling my cousin, who's way better than me) and I've been having some trouble dealing with a Agility/Baton Pass Jolteon. Are there any pokemon that can effectively shut down a set like this?

Sorry if it sounds stupid )x

I answered something to this effect in the last thread, but I suppose I'll post again. There appears to be something like a 75-80% success rate per IV when both parents are holding the power items. (Based on 100 eggs hatched with both parents holding power items corresponding to their respective IVs, 76 inherited IV A (Attack) 79 inherited IV B (Speed), and 61 inherited both IVs while 6 inherited neither IV. Though, while one parent holds an Everstone and the other holds a power item, the IV is guaranteed to be inherited.

I guess part of it depends on what Jolteon is Baton Passing to. But the best way to shut down any Baton Pass chain is with Taunt to prevent boosts or Baton Pass, Encore on the boost, or simply Whirlwind or Roar them out to negate any boosts. If you really wanted to, you could always try using Psych Up, but I wouldn't advise it

If I thought I could have found the answer sifting through forums I would have, but I'm unfamiliar...
And the everstone bit explains it.
Thanks very much for the repost!

I'm ready to EV train, but there is on small detailed unmentioned in the guide: I'm going to train a lvl 1 PKMN which will never win battles... Ever. So I'm gong to switch out t make it grow; How will this affect the EV's gained?

Switching a Pokemon out doesn't impact the EVs - every Pokemon that fights will gain the same number. As will any that are holding an Exp. Share.

Thanks! But exp share doesn't sound good to me because you'd miss a lot of EV's by not holding a power item :) Thanks, everythng is clear! Here comes my first EV trained pkmn, a paraflinch Togekiss! :D

Couple of questions:

Can Mamoswine survive switching in on anything Salamence could possibly have?

What's the best level to start training for EVs?

Mamoswine can switch into:
Earthquake, +0 Outrage, +0 Dragon Claw, Brick Break, Roost, and Dragon Dance. Those are the most common moves that he can switch in on, but I wouldn't recommend doing so as he'll take a ton of damage from doing so.

It doesn't matter when you start training EVs, as the end result will be the same.
