How are stat-up moves calculated by the engine?

I'm told one stage is worth 50%, but what about when 2 of them are there? Is it +125% or +100%?

Think of it like this. Start with 2/2. If you are raising stats, add however many boosts it has to the top number. For instance, after 3 boosts, you get (2+3)/2, which is 5/2. Multiply this by your original stat. If you are decreasing, add 1 to the bottom 2 for each decrease. For instance, if you are at -3 Defense, you will have 2/(2+3), or 2/5. Multiply this by your original Defense.

This works out nicely to +50%, +100%, +150%, etc. up to +300% (or x1.5, x2, x2.5, etc. up to x4) for stat increases, but for decreases, it's x.67, x.5, x.4, so there is no obvious linear progression like increases.

Repost for new page:

If Emerald and the Seismic Toss move tutor can't easily be found, would a Blissey with:

Softboiled
TWave
Ice Beam
Counter

Work? Ice Beam stops the Taunt set-up, Counter for those things you know are going to hit hard (CC MixApes, Outraging Garchomps, etc)

Yeah, it would work, but I'd rather use a Calm Mind Blissey so you don't instantly lose to other CMers as much. Of course, Counter is always nice. However, Close Combat from Infernape should OHKO. If it has at least 277 Attack (132 EVs and a neutral nature) and a Life Orb, you're dead, and that's if you have max Defense, Bold, and max HP. Ice Beam is just as effective against Garchomp (although you might as well Counter in case it has Special Defense).

Quick inquiry:

Say I switch in a unstatused Heracross with Flame Orb attached against a Breloom using Spore. Heracross then goes to sleep... but does the Flame Orb activate at the end of turn and change the status to Burn, or would it have to wait until he wakes up?

I assume he has to wait until the Sleep status is removed, but felt it was worth asking anyway.

Thanks in advance.

He does have to wait. Burn can only take place while your status slot is free (barring attraction/confusion). After he's been burned, feel free to switch into breloom's spore for free.

I Don't Know if this should go here but...

I really want to make a "New Guy Favorites Team" and one of my new favorites is my little psychic buddy Azelf. Now, I managed to catch one with 24 IV's in Speed and Special Attack, which as far as I'm concerned is pretty damn good. However, I'm a bit at a loss for what to give him for moves I'm thinking:
- Flamethrower
- Thunderbolt
- Shadow Ball
- Psychic
I'd like a little advice or suggestions, really any comment would be appreciated

Thanks

I'd go with Nasty Plot over Shadow Ball because after Azelf has used Nasty Plot, few pokemon can stop him. Generally, for special sweeper Azelf, you run a 4 HP/252 Sp Atk/252 Speed EV spread with a Timid nature. If you want to read up more on Pokemon movesets in general, you should read the DP analyses on this site. They are packed full of good information.

What is the point in activating Guts if you have a Burn condition?

You lose attack power from Burn but gain the same attack power back so your power remains unchanged. But then you lose health every turn due to burn.

So what's the point of activiating Guts with a Burn condition?

if you the poke have guts, it wont get de attak reduction of the burn condition and you activate the guts to raise the attack... so that`s the point

I got pokesav to mess around with and screw with my friends (don't worry nothing will be traded or anything else) and when I open the program, it's too large to fit on my screen and i can't scroll down to see what else i can edit. Anyone know how to make the window smaller or something so I can see the bottom?

Here's a pic if you're not sure what I'm talking about:

Edit: I figured it out myself, if anyone else is having this problem just click on the blank window picture in the top left corner and choose move, then move around with the arrow keys.

Can anyone give me ev advice for a bold Magnezone?

25/25/30/30/15/31 are its ivs.

I was thinking 244 hp (max lefties), 4 speed to outspeed impish swampert (HP Grass 68), but am unsure about the rest.

Where exactly is the Ace Trainer with the Blissey on the Battle Tower island? And does anyone know any other good places to get experience and money or is sweeping the E4 the most efficient way to get experience and money?

Oh, and does the extra effect of making items appear more often require that the compound eyes pokemon be leading or just in your party?

Thanks!

It's a special case for pokemon with Guts. The burn condition does not lower their attack.

I can answer this question. Yes, the compound eyed pokemon has to be your lead.

No idea where the Ace Trainer is, but the most efficient way, hands down, to get money, is the four "rich" trainers in front of the Pokemon Mansion. The most money-making pair are the old fogeys on the outside. They give 24k ea with Amulet Coin.

And the compound eyes pokemon has to be leading, BUT it can be fainted and this will still work.

Is it possible through breeding to have Whirlwind over Air Slash / Aerial Ace on the second set of crobat? making it:

Hypnosis
Whirlwind
Cross Poison
U-Turn

Also, does synchronize transfer the "badly poisoned" effect when toxic or another move is used? Or just poison? Because I didn't see anything about it under ability listings and I don't think synchronize does badly poison.
