Moves
========
Rock Slide is used over Stone Edge as a Rock-type STAB option because it's much more reliable while still retaining necessary damage on key threats such as Volcarona, Mega Charizard Y, and Tornadus-T. While Crunch is the main Dark-type STAB move used on this set to deal consistent damage, Pursuit is necessary to prevent threats such as Mega Alakazam and Mega Latios from switching out. Earthquake is a solid coverage option that allows Tyranitar to threaten to OHKO Heatran and Magnezone while doing decent damage to threats such as Toxapex, Magearna, and opposing Tyranitar.
Set Details
========
Assault Vest allows Tyranitar to become an effective check for many of the tier's most threatening special attackers such as Mega Charizard Y, Mega Alakazam, and Heatran. 92 EVs are put into Speed to allow Tyranitar to outspeed Mega Mawile and hit it with Earthquake. 182 HP EVs allow Tyranitar to avoid the 2HKO from Mega Latios's Earthquake. The rest of the EVs are put into Special Defense to allow Tyranitar to tank even some of the strongest special attacks in the tier such as +1 Savage Spin-Out from Volcarona with Assault Vest.
Usage Tips
========
Avoid unnecessarily switching Tyranitar into Pokemon aside from the ones that it's needed to check, as it lacks reliable recovery and is prone to getting worn down into range of moves such as Corkscrew Crash from Heatran and Focus Blast from Mega Alakazam. In a similar vein, try to keep entry hazards off the field when switching in Tyranitar so that it doesn't get worn down as quickly and can do its job well. Try to wear down Pokemon such as Mega Latios and Mega Alakazam with your teammates so that you don't have to win a mind game in order to Pursuit trap them. If possible, try to sacrifice an expendable teammate when attempting to trap Mega Alakazam because Focus Blast can 2HKO Tyranitar as it switches in.
Team Options
========
Assault Vest Tyranitar tends to find itself on teams that appreciate the role compression and teambuilding flexibility that the set provides. Teammates that can help Tyranitar heal throughout the match, such as Tapu Bulu and Wish Clefable, are very helpful because they allow you to play Tyranitar more aggressively throughout the match. Pokemon that can break through the opposing team when the likes of Mega Latios and Mega Alakazam have been removed, such as Heatran and Mega Charizard Y, make excellent teammates for Assault Vest Tyranitar. Entry hazard removal from Pokemon such as Tornadus-T and Zapdos is very useful, as entry hazards being off the field allows Tyranitar to switch around more freely throughout the game.
