[OVERVIEW]

Avalugg is an incredibly bulky physical powerhouse in 1v1, being able to beat every variant of Dragonite and counter impressive physical threats like Landorus-T, Garchomp, Haxorus, and Mega Lopunny. Sturdy combined with Mirror Coat, Superpower, and Stone Edge also lets it beat Choice Specs Greninja, Heatran, and Mega Charizard Y. However, Avalugg loses to many Pokemon able to counteract Sturdy, such as Mew, Mega Gardevoir, Mega Charizard X, Pain Split Magearna, and Fake Out users such as mixed Zeraora, Mega Medicham, and Incineroar. Furthermore, many specially offensive Pokemon that Avalugg would otherwise beat with Mirror Coat have ways to PP stall its most effective set due to Choice Band's lock-in, such as Meloetta, Tapu Lele, Mega Slowbro, and Mega Venusaur. Lastly, even with Choice Band, Avalugg's STAB attack in Avalanche only has 60 Base Power if the foe doesn't attack it, meaning it can struggle to break through many physical walls such as Mega Swampert and Clefable.

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========

Avalanche is used to beat Pokemon such as Dragonite, Garchomp, Naganadel, Greninja, and Choice Scarf Porygon-Z. Superpower is preferred over Earthquake to hit Air Balloon Heatran and Choice Band Kartana. Earthquake, however, can be used for a better matchup versus Aegislash and non-mixed Zeraora and to solidify matchups versus non-Will-O-Wisp Victini and Bulk Up Mega Blaziken. Stone Edge is used to hit a variety of threats, such as Mega Charizard Y and Flyinium Z Gyarados, and is the go-to move if Avalanche doesn't have a chance to win due to its raised critical hit chance. Lastly, Mirror Coat is used to beat many special attacking Pokemon, OHKOing them in conjunction with Sturdy, such as Genesect and Choice Specs Meloetta. Gyro Ball with a Brave nature and minimum Speed IVs is a notable option, as it beats Tapu Lele through Z-Reflect and takes out Leech Seed Tapu Bulu.

Set Details
========

Choice Band along with 248 Attack EVs and an Adamant nature allows Avalugg to hit as hard as possible after tanking a hit, securing wins versus Dragonite, Garchomp, Will-O-Wisp Mega Charizard Y, and Volcarona. 240 HP EVs maximize Avalugg's physical bulk, allowing it to have a better matchup versus threats like bulky Mega Gyarados and maximize damage done back through Mirror Coat. 20 Special Defense EVs solidify the Greninja matchup, allowing Avalugg to tank two Ice Beams from Choice Specs variants and 2HKO back with Avalanche while also beating Hydro Cannon, Dark Pulse, and Grass Knot sets. Sturdy allows Mirror Coat to function properly, as well as letting Avalugg take extremely powerful physical attacks coming from Choice Band Archeops and Darmanitan.

Usage Tips
========

Avalanche should be chosen when facing off against Greninja, as it will 2HKO or OHKO Choice Specs Greninja no matter the move it uses, outside of Hidden Power Fire. You should use Superpower against Petaya Berry, Waterium Z, or Choice Specs + Hidden Power Fire variants, however, to get the best chance of victory. Many matchups involve picking between choosing Mirror Coat on a predicted attack and an attacking move on a predicted non-attacking move; for example, against Kommo-o, you must use either Avalanche on a predicted Taunt PP stalling attempt or Close Combat or Mirror Coat on a predicted Clangorous Soulblaze.

Team Options
========

Because Avalugg struggles with Steel-type Pokemon and Will-O-Wisp users, so Fire-types like Mega Charizard Y and Volcarona make great partners, with the former being able to take out Magearna, Mega Mawile, and Registeel and the latter taking on troublesome Psychic-types like Mega Gardevoir, Mew, and Mega Slowbro. Avalugg, in return, can take care of the bulky Dragon-types that counter most Fire-types, including Dragonite and Garchomp, as well as countering other specific threats such as Choice Specs Greninja and Heatran if using Superpower. Steel-types like Magnezone and Aegislash make interesting partners for Avalugg, with both being able to break through defensive Pokemon like Primarina, Chansey, and non-Amnesia Mega Venusaur with the combination of Metal Sound and their respective Z-Moves. Both also help take care of the many Psychic- and Fairy-types that roam the tier, such as Mega Gardevoir, Mega Metagross, Tapu Lele, and Clefable. In return, Avalugg can take care of Ground-types like Landorus-T and non-Counter Donphan that threaten them. Charm Mega Venusaur is also a great partner for Avalugg, being able to beat fast stall Pokemon like Whimsicott, Serperior, and Jumpluff while also taking care of Mega Charizard X and Mega Gyarados. Mega Venusaur also takes care of Defense-boosting Pokemon like Chansey and Mega Altaria with Leech Seed + Synthesis while handling Fire-types with Thick Fat. Avalugg, in return, can take care of Flyinium Z Dragonite and Landorus-T.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

Avalugg can also run a Groundium Z + Curse set with Recover to beat Mega Metagross; however, this set still loses to common Steel-type Pokemon such as Iron Defense Magearna, Registeel, Mega Mawile, and Air Balloon Heatran.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Bypassing Sturdy**: Will-O-Wisp users like Mew, Mega Gardevoir, and Volcanion can break Sturdy with burn and proceed to KO Avalugg with a special move. Pain Split Magearna is also able to do this. Certain Fake Out users can also bypass Avalugg's Sturdy, mainly Mega Medicham and mixed Zeraora, as well as Pokemon with specific moves like Choice Specs Necrozma with Photon Geyser and Meloetta with Psyshock.

**Stall Pokemon**: Serperior and Whimsicott are able to afflict Avalugg with Leech Seed, tank an unboosted Avalanche, and proceed to Substitute + Protect stall Avalugg. Defensive boosting Pokemon, including stall Deoxys-S, Clefable, Mega Sableye, Registeel, and Cotton Guard Mega Altaria, are also able to handily take care of Avalugg.

**Steel-types**: While Heatran and Genesect get beaten by Superpower and Mirror Coat, respectively, the tier's top Steel-types, including Aegislash, Magearna, and Mega Mawile, all take care of Avalugg.

**Fire-types**: Some Fire-types such as Will-O-Wisp Victini, Incineroar, and Mega Charizard X can counter Avalugg by resisting Avalanche, shaking off Stone Edge or Earthquake, and firing back with their super effective STAB options.

**Opposing Sturdy Users**: Pokemon such as Magnezone, Magneton, Crustle, Golem, and Sawk all don't need to care about Avalugg's Sturdy and can take advantage of either Avalugg's weak Special Defense or its Ice typing's weaknesses.

**PP Stall Special Offense**: Offensive Pokemon potentially countered by Mirror Coat such as Normalium Z Porygon-Z, Tapu Lele, Tapu Fini, and Meloetta can all PP stall Choice-locked Avalugg using Conversion, Taunt, and Celebrate or Laser Focus.

[OVERVIEW]
  • Avalugg is an incredibly bulky physical powerhouse in the 1v1 metagame, being able to beat every variation of Dragonite, while countering impressive physical threats like Mega Gyarados ok this isnt rlly reliable at all. Not only do you have to hit 4 stone edges if they mega when you predict nonmega, if that happens they can just dragon dance once then spam waterfall for the 3hko. You can talk about mdos but dont make it a selling point, Landorus-Therian, Garchomp, Haxorus, and Mega Lopunny.
  • Avalugg also has access to the coveted ability in Sturdy, which in conjunction with Mirror Coat, helps Avalugg counter many specially offensive threats in the 1v1 metagame, such as Choice Specs Greninja, Porygon-Z, Nagandel, Kommo-o this is a 50/50, and Genesect.
  • Avalugg's movepool also has extensive coverage moves with Superpower and Stone Edge being able to hit Pokemon such as Mega Charizard Y, Volcarona, Mega Tyranitar and Heatran. i would combine these two points and simply say 'Avalugg's sturdy, combined with its move coverage of a, b, and c, let it beat x, y, and z. Otherwise its repeating the moves section
  • However, because of Avalugg's dreadfully low speed, i don't think speed plays a factor - you could beat some of them if you're faster but inherently will o and fake out are techs used to beat sturdy, not something related to being slow. Speed would apply to stuff like sleep users, which rely entirely on going first. Make it a point more about how it loses to common sturdy answers it is outsped by many Pokemon able to counteract Sturdy, such as Will-O-Wisp Mew, Mega Gardevoir, and Mega Charizard X, Pain Split Magearna, and Fake Out users such as Mixed Zeraora, Mega Medicham, and Incineroar.
  • Furthermore, many specially offensive Pokemon have ways to PP stall Avalugg locked into a move, such as Meloetta, Tapu Lele, Mega Slowbro, and Mega Venusaur.
  • Lastly, even with Choice Band, Avalugg's STAB attack in Avalanche has 60 base power when untouched, meaning it can struggle to break through many physically bulky walls such as Aegislash, Registeel, Mega Swampert, and Clefable
[SET]
name: Avathugg
move 1: Avalanche
move 2: Superpower / Earthquake okay so beating aegislash and all nonmixed zeraora is kinda cool, and superpower doesnt have an overwhelming superiority over eq
move 3: Stone Edge
move 4: Mirror Coat
item: Choice Band
ability: Sturdy
nature: Naughty Adamant
evs: 248 HP / 252 Atk / 8 Def 240 HP / 248 Atk / 20 SpD so we think unless u need min spdef for somehting in particular these evs are optimal, they let you beat gren with avalanche 100% and not have to deal with rolls when it hits neutrally
ivs: 0 SpD

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========
  • Avalanche is Avalugg's main STAB move, doubling in power when hit by an opponent, which will happen most of the time given Avalugg's middling speed stat. Avalanche is used to beat Pokemon such as Dragonite, Garchomp, Nagandel, and Archeops, while also being used versus Porygon-Z incase they Z-Conversion on your Superpower, and is usually your go-to move you lose against z-conversion. They pp stall u with recover if you avalanche. If they misplay and z-hyper beam you, avalanche will ko. Just include scarf pz under avalanche, don't mention z-conversion as a winning mu
  • Superpower is preferred over Earthquake to hit Air Balloon Heatran, Mega Tyranitar, and Porygon2 no lol. they will recover until you're at -6., while also solidifying the matchup against Greninja, as they can Dark Pulse, turn into a Dark type, and be immune to Mirror Coat. avalanche is better for gren
  • Stone Edge is used to hit a variety of threats, such as Mega Charizard Y, Flyinium Gyarados, Volcarona, and Crustle crustle z rock wrecker into rock wrecke, and is the go-to move if Avalanche doesn't have a chance to win, due to its raised critical hit chance.
  • Lastly, Mirror Coat is used to beat many special attacking Pokemon, OHKO'ing them in conjunction with Sturdy, such as Kommo-o move to bottom, say its a 50/50, Choice Specs Genesect, and Choice Specs Meloetta.
  • so we think Gyro Ball should be move mentioned here - gyro ball with brave nature and minimum speed ivs lets you beat Tapu Lele through reflect and sets like seed Tapu Bulu

Set Details
========
  • Choice Band is the item of choice, which along with 252 248 Atk and a Naughty Adamant nature, allows Avalugg to hit as hard as possible after tanking a hit, securing wins vs Dragonite, Garchomp, Will-O-Wisp Mega Charziard Y and Volcarona.
  • 248 240 HP and 8Def maximizes Avalugg's physical bulk, allowing it to have a better matchup vs threats like bulky Mega Gyarados, Choice Band Hoopa-Unbound, and other Pokemon it can counter physically.
  • 0SpD IV's along with the aforementioned Naughty nature allows Avalugg to take as much damage as possible from special moves, returning with a powerful as possible Mirror Coat.
  • mention 20 spdef for greninja
  • Sturdy is the ability of choice to allow Mirror Coat to function properly as well as living ultra-powerful physical attacks coming from Choice Band Archeops and Darmanitan.

Usage Tips
========
  • When picked against a predicted Gyarados, Avalugg has one of two options. If you predict they are going to Mega Evolve, Superpower is the move of choice, as it beats Mega Gyarados. If you want to play it safer and still have a good chance of beating Mega Gyarados stone edge won't beat mega evolved mega gyarados, clicking Stone Edge is the best option, as it 2HKO's Gyarados if they do not Mega on turn 1, and 4HKO's Mega-Gyarados, which outpaces Gyarados having to Dragon Dance three times and using Waterfall twice no, it Dragon Dances once and 3HKOes you, you won't win that. This is overall a shaky matchup however, given Stone Edge's accuracy, but can be balanced out by its high critical hit ratio.
  • Superpower Avalanche should be chosen when facing off against Greninja, as they will 2HKO or OHKO Choice Specs Greninja with any move they use, outside of Hidden Power Fire. as they may try to Protean Dark Pulse on a predicted Mirror Coat; even if they use Grass Knot on a predicted Superpower, Superpower will OHKO most of the time. You should use Superpower against Waterium or Choice Specs + Hidden Power Fire variants, however, to get the best chance of victory.
  • Many matchups involve picking between choosing Mirror Coat on a predicted attack, or an attacking move on a predicted non attacking move, like Kommo-o where you must either Avalanche on a predicted Taunt PP stall or Close Combat, or Mirror Coat on a predicted Clangorous Soulblaze.
  • Avalugg should be sent in on predicted Dragon types including Dragonite, Garchomp, and Nagandel as Avalugg is a surefire counter to all of them. Avalugg also should be picked into teams with multiple offensive Pokemon, including Mega Lopunny, Greninja, and Haxorus. pretty obvious.
Team Options
========
  • Because Avalugg struggles with Steel-type Pokemon and Will-O-Wisp users, Fire types like Mega Charizard Y, and Volcarona make great partners, the former being able to take out Magearna, Mega Mawile, and Registeel, and Volcarona being able to take out troublesome Psychic types like Mega Gardevoir, Mew, and Mega Slowbro. Avalugg in return for most Fire type partners, can take care of the bulky Dragon types that counter them, including Dragonite and Garchomp, while countering other specific threats such as Choice Specs Greninja and Heatran.
  • Steel types like Magnezone, and Aegislash make interesting partners for Avalugg, both being able to break through defensive Pokemon like Primarina, Chansey, and non-Amnesia Mega Venusaur with Metal sound, and hit hard with their respective Z moves. Both also help take care of the many Psychic and Fairy types that litter the tier, such as Mega Gardevoir, Mega Metagross, Tapu Lele, and Clefable. In return, Avalugg can take care of Ground types like Landorus-Therian and Donphan that threaten them.
  • Charm Mega Venusaur is also a great partner for Avalugg, being able to beat fast stally Pokemon like Whimsicott, Serperior, and Jumpluff, while also taking care of Mega Charizard-X, and Mega Gyarados with Charm. Mega Venusaur also takes care of defense boosting Pokemon like Registeel and Mega Altaria with Leech Seed + Synthesis, while taking care of Fire types with Thick Fat. Avalugg in return can take care of Flynium-Z Dragonite and Landorus-T.
[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============
Earthquake is a potential option over Superpower, being able to shore up the matchup vs Bulk Up Zeraora and Bulk Up Mega Blaziken, while assuring KO's against fire types Stone Edge might miss against like Blacephalon we slashed this in the main moves
I would include a curse recover groundium specifically for mega metagross, since its bad but can do something

Checks and Counters
===================

**Specially offensive Pokemon that can break Sturdy**: Will-O-Wisp users like Mew, Mega Gardevoir, and Volcanion can break Sturdy with burn, and continue to KO back with a special move. Pain Split Magearna is also able to do this.

**Stall Pokemon**: Serperior and Yache Berry Whimsicott are able to Leech Seed, tank an unboosted Avalanche, and procede to Substitute Protect stall Avalugg. Defensive boosting Pokemon including Reflect Iron Defense Deoxys Speed, Tapu Lele remove this bc gyro ball, Clefable, and Cotton Guard Mega Altaria are also able to handedly take care of Avalugg

**Steel Types** While Heatran and Genesect both get beat by Superpower and Mirror Coat respectably, the tiers top Steel types including Aegislash, Magnezone, Magearna, and Mega Mawile all take care of Avalugg with their respective quirks.

**PP** Offensive Pokemon potentially countered by Mirror Coat such as Normalium Z Porygon-Z, Kommo-o, I mean, they would just close combat, not stall, unless theyre sadistic and Meloetta can all PP stall choice locked Avalugg using Conversion, Taunt, and Celebrate or Laser Focus.

**Stall Pokemon**: Serperior and Yache Berry Whimsicott 248+ Atk Choice Band Avalugg Avalanche vs. 248 HP / 252+ Def Whimsicott: 240-284 (74.3 - 87.9%) -- guaranteed 2HKO we good are able to Leech Seed, tank an unboosted Avalanche, and procede to Substitute Protect stall Avalugg. Defensive boosting Pokemon including Iron Defense Deoxys Speed, Clefable, and Cotton Guard Mega Altaria are also able to handedly take care of Avalugg

**Steel Types** While Heatran and Genesect both get beat by Superpower and Mirror Coat respectably, the tiers top Steel types including Aegislash, Magnezone, Magearna, and Mega Mawile all take care of Avalugg with their respective quirks.

**Fire-types**: These outside of Cmy beat Avalugg, usually Since you're listing steel types
*If you want to list other types you should probably just combine these points into like "super-effective Pokemon that Avalugg can't KO"

**PP** Offensive Pokemon potentially countered by Mirror Coat such as Normalium Z Porygon-Z, and Meloetta can all PP stall choice locked Avalugg using Conversion, Taunt, and Celebrate or Laser Focus.

[OVERVIEW]
  • Avalugg is an incredibly bulky physical powerhouse in the 1v1 metagame, being able to beat every variation of Dragonite, a trait not possessed by many Pokemon, while countering impressive physical threats like Landorus-Therian, Garchomp, Haxorus, and Mega Lopunny. I'd say to specify because it's oddly specific to put Dragonite in its own part otherwise.
  • Avalugg's sturdy, combined with its move coverage of Mirror Coat, Superpower, and Stone Edge, let it beat Choice Specs Greninja, Heatran, and Mega Charizard Y.
  • However, Avalugg loses to many Pokemon able to counteract Sturdy, such as Will-O-Wisp Mew Fake Out Mew wins too, so both main sets win, Mega Gardevoir, and Mega Charizard X, Pain Split Magearna, and Fake Out users such as Mixed Zeraora, Mega Medicham, and Incineroar.
  • Furthermore, many specially offensive Pokemon that Avalugg would otherwise beat with Mirror Coat Specification have ways to PP stall Avalugg locked into a move, such as Meloetta, Tapu Lele, Mega Slowbro, and Mega Venusaur.
  • Lastly, even with Choice Band, Avalugg's STAB attack in Avalanche has 60 base power when untouched, meaning it can struggle to break through many physically bulky walls such as Registeel, Mega Swampert, and Clefable You're not using Avalanche versus Registeel

Moves
========
  • Avalanche is Avalugg's main STAB move, doubling in power when hit by an opponent, which will happen most of the time given Avalugg's middling below-average It's way worse than average speed stat. Avalanche is used to beat Pokemon such as Dragonite, Garchomp, Nagandel, and Greninja, while also being used versus and Scarf Porygon-Z
  • Superpower is preferred over Earthquake to hit Air Balloon Heatran, Mega Tyranitar, and Choice Band Kartana Mega Tyranitar's most common spread is the analysis one and Rock Tomb doesn't 2HKO and Earthquake can
  • Earthquake is just as viable and can be used for a better matchup vs Aegislash, and Non Mixed Zeraora
  • Stone Edge is used to hit a variety of threats, such as Mega Charizard Y, Flyinium Gyarados, non-Substitute Volcarona Susbtitute is run 60% of the time on Volcarona and is the 4th most common move, and it's really uncommon to win if Volcarona has Substitute due to the 80% miss chance, just remove Volcarona, since stone edge can't reliably beat sub, they all run sub, and EQ doesn't KO bulky volc after a sub, and make a usage tip for it, for either earthquaking on a is the go-to move if Avalanche doesn't have a chance to win, due to its raised critical hit chance.
  • Lastly, Mirror Coat is used to beat many special attacking Pokemon, OHKO'ing them in conjunction with Sturdy such as Choice Specs Genesect No need to specify for Choice Specs because Scarf still wins, and Choice Specs Meloetta.
  • Gyro ball with Brave nature and minimum speed ivs is notable as it beats Tapu Lele through Z Reflect and Leech Seed Tapu Bulu

Set Details
========
  • Choice Band is the item of choice, which along with 248 Atk and a Adamant nature, allows Avalugg to hit as hard as possible after tanking a hit, securing wins vs Dragonite, Garchomp, Will-O-Wisp Mega Charziard Y and Volcarona.
  • 240 HP maximizes Avalugg's physical bulk, allowing it to have a better matchup vs threats like bulky Mega Gyarados, Choice Band Hoopa-Unbound, and other Pokemon it can counter physically.
  • 20 SpD is to solidify the Greninja matchup, tanking 2 Ice Beams from Choice Specs, and 2HKOing back with Avalanche, which also beats Hydro Cannon, Dark Pulse, and Grass Knot.
  • Sturdy is the ability of choice to allow Mirror Coat to function properly as well as living ultra-powerful physical attacks coming from Choice Band Archeops and Darmanitan.

Usage Tips
========

  • Avalanche should be chosen when facing off against Greninja, as they will 2HKO or OHKO Choice Specs Greninja with any move they use, outside of Hidden Power Fire. You should use Superpower against Petaya Berry, Waterium, or Choice Specs + Hidden Power Fire variants, however, to get the best chance of victory.
  • Against Choice Scarf Porygon-Z, use Superpower for the super effective damage, but when against Normalium Z Porygon-Z, use Avalanche to counteract Porygon-Z using Z-Conversion into a Ghost-type. you're always going to want to Avalanche, trick usage doesn't matter
Team Options
========
Avalugg in return for most Fire type partners, can take care of the bulky Dragon types that counter them, including Dragonite and Garchomp, while countering other specific threats such as Choice Specs Greninja and Heatran if using Superpower. Heatran needs Superpower to lose you don't need to add this
  • Steel types like Magnezone, and Aegislash make interesting partners for Avalugg, both being able to break through defensive Pokemon like Primarina, Chansey, and non-Amnesia Mega Venusaur with Metal sound, and hit hard with their respective Z moves. Both also help take care of the many Psychic and Fairy types that litter the tier, such as Mega Gardevoir, Mega Metagross, Tapu Lele, and Clefable. In return, Avalugg can take care of Ground types like Landorus-Therian and non-Counter Donphan Counter is the 3rd most common move so it should be mentioned that threaten them.

Avalugg can also run a Groundium Z Curse Recover set to beat Mega Metagross, however this set still loses to common Steel type Pokemon such as Iron Defense Magearna, Registeel, Mega Mawile, and Air Balloon Heatran.

===================

**Specially offensive Pokemon that can break Sturdy**: Will-O-Wisp users like Mew, Mega Gardevoir, and Volcanion can break Sturdy with burn, and continue to KO back with a special move, or in Mew's case, stall Avalugg out. weird that you say this when earlier you specifically mentioned that Fake Out Mew exists. Why not remove what you add here and just add 'Fake Out or with a burn' above? Especially bc this is a section on specially offensive pokemon and will o mew isn't specially offensive Pain Split Magearna is also able to do this.

Choice Band is the item of choice, which along with 248 Attack EVs and an Adamant nature (RC) allows Avalugg to hit as hard as possible after tanking a hit, securing wins versus Dragonite, Garchomp, Will-O-Wisp Mega Charziard Charizard Y, (AC) and Volcarona. 240 HP maximizes EVs maximize Avalugg's physical bulk, allowing it to have a better matchup versus threats like bulky Mega Gyarados, (AC) and maximize damage done back through Mirror Coat. 20 Special Defense EVs is to solidify the Greninja matchup, allowing Avalugg to tanking 2 tank two Ice Beams from Choice Specs, and variants and 2HKOing back with Avalanche, which also beats while also beating Hydro Cannon, Dark Pulse, and Grass Knot sets. Many matchups involve picking between choosing Mirror Coat on a predicted attack, or and an attacking move on a predicted non-attacking (AH) move; (SC) like for example, against Kommo-o, (AC) where you must use either Avalanche on a predicted Taunt PP stall or Close Combat (RC) or Mirror Coat on a predicted Clangorous Soulblaze.

Team Options
========
Because Avalugg struggles with Steel-type Pokemon and Will-O-Wisp users, Fire-types (AH) like Mega Charizard Y (RC) and Volcarona make great partners, with the former being able to take out Magearna, Mega Mawile, and Registeel (RC) and Volcarona being able to take out the latter taking on (construction consistency + repetitive sentence structure) troublesome Psychic-types (AH) like Mega Gardevoir, Mew, and Mega Slowbro. Avalugg, (AC) in return, (AC) for most Fire type partners, can take care of the bulky Dragon-types (AH) that counter them most Fire-types, including Dragonite and Garchomp, while as well as countering other specific threats such as Choice Specs Greninja and Heatran if using Superpower. Steel-types (AH) like Magnezone (RC) and Aegislash make interesting partners for Avalugg, with both being able to break through defensive Pokemon like Primarina, Chansey, and non-Amnesia Mega Venusaur with the combination of Metal Sound (RC) and hit hard with their respective Z-Moves. (AH) Both also help take care of the many Psychic- (AH) and Fairy-types (AH) that litter roam (wrong word usage) the tier, such as Mega Gardevoir, Mega Metagross, Tapu Lele, and Clefable. In return, Avalugg can take care of Ground-types (AH) like Landorus-Therian and non-Counter Donphan that threaten them. Charm Mega Venusaur is also a great partner for Avalugg, being able to beat fast stally stall Pokemon like Whimsicott, Serperior, and Jumpluff (RC) while also taking care of Mega Charizard X (RH, RC) and Mega Gyarados with Charm. Mega Venusaur also takes care of Defense-boosting (AH) Pokemon like Chansey and Mega Altaria with Leech Seed + Synthesis (RC) while taking care of handling Fire-types (AH) with Thick Fat. Avalugg, (AC) in return, (AC) can take care of Flynium-Z Flyinium Z Dragonite and Landorus-T.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============
Avalugg can also run a Groundium Z + Curse Recover set with Recover to beat Mega Metagross; (SC) however, (AC) this set still loses to common Steel-type (AH) Pokemon such as Iron Defense Magearna, Registeel, Mega Mawile, and Air Balloon Heatran.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Bypassing Sturdy**: Will-O-Wisp users like Mew, Mega Gardevoir, and Volcanion can break Sturdy with burn (RC) and continue proceed to KO back Avalugg with a special move. (period) Pain Split Magearna is also able to do this. Certain Fake Out users can also bypass Avalugg's Sturdy, mainly Mega Medicham and mixed Zeraora, as well as Pokemon with specific techs, moves like Choice Specs Necrozma's with Photon Geyser and Psyshock Meloetta with Psyshock.

**Stall Pokemon**: Serperior and Whimsicott are able to afflict Avalugg with Leech Seed, tank an unboosted Avalanche, and procede proceed to Substitute Protect stall Avalugg. Defensive boosting Pokemon including stall Deoxys-S, Clefable, Mega Sableye, Registeel, and Cotton Guard Mega Altaria are also able to handedly handily take care of Avalugg.

**Steel-types**: (AH, colon) While Heatran and Genesect both get beaten by Superpower and Mirror Coat, (AC) respectably, respectively, (probably and -> or and omit respectively though, provided mirror coat beats heatran too?) the tiers tier's top Steel-types (AH) including Aegislash, Magearna, and Mega Mawile all take care of Avalugg with their respective quirks.

**Fire-types**: (AH, colon) Some Fire-types (AH) including Will-O-Wisp Victini, Incineroar, and Mega Charizard X (RH) can counter Avalugg by resisting Avalanche, shaking off Stone Edge or Earthquake, and firing back with their super effective (RH) STAB options.

**Opposing Sturdy Users**: Pokemon such as Magnezone, Magneton, Crustle, Golem, and Sawk all don't need to care about Avalugg's Sturdy (RC) and can take advantage of either Avalugg's weak Special Defense or its Ice typing's weaknesses as an Ice-type.

**PP Stall Special Offense**: (colon) Offensive Pokemon potentially countered by Mirror Coat such as Normalium Z Porygon-Z, Tapu Lele, Tapu Fini, and Meloetta can all PP stall Choice-locked (AH) Avalugg using Conversion, Taunt, and Celebrate or Laser Focus.

[OVERVIEW]
Avalugg is an incredibly bulky physical powerhouse in the 1v1 metagame, being able to beat every variation variant of Dragonite, a trait not possessed by many Pokemon, while countering as well as counter impressive physical threats like Landorus-Therian, Garchomp, Haxorus, and Mega Lopunny. Avalugg's Sturdy (RC) combined with its move coverage of Mirror Coat, Superpower, and Stone Edge (RC) also lets it beat Choice Specs Greninja, Heatran, and Mega Charizard Y. However, Avalugg loses to many Pokemon able to counteract Sturdy, such as Mew, Mega Gardevoir, and Mega Charizard X, Pain Split Magearna, and Fake Out users such as mixed Zeraora, Mega Medicham, and Incineroar. Furthermore, many specially offensive Pokemon that Avalugg would otherwise beat with Mirror Coat have ways to PP stall Avalugg it locked into a move due to Choice Band's lock-in, (only understood this bit once i got to the set) such as Meloetta, Tapu Lele, Mega Slowbro, and Mega Venusaur. Lastly, even with Choice Band, Avalugg's STAB attack in Avalanche only has 60 Base Power when untouched if the foe doesn't attack Avalugg, meaning it can struggle to break through many physically bulky walls such as Mega Swampert and Clefable.

Moves
========
Avalanche is Avalugg's main STAB move, doubling in power when it's hit by an opponent attack, which will happen most of the time given its the move's -4 priority bracket. Avalanche is used to beat Pokemon such as Dragonite, Garchomp, Nagandel, Greninja, and Choice Scarf Porygon-Z. Superpower is preferred over Earthquake to hit Air Balloon Heatran and Choice Band Kartana. Earthquake is just as viable, however, and can be used for a better matchup vs versus Aegislash (RC) and non-mixed Zeraora (RC) and solidifying to solidify matchups vs versus non-Will-O-Wisp (AH) Victini and Bulk Up Mega Blaziken. Stone Edge is used to hit a variety of threats, such as Mega Charizard Y and Flyinium Z Gyarados, and is the go-to move if Avalanche doesn't have a chance to win (RC) due to its raised critical hit chance. Lastly, Mirror Coat is used to beat many special attacking Pokemon, OHKO'ing OHKOing them in conjunction with Sturdy, (AC) such as Genesect and Choice Specs Meloetta. Gyro Ball with a Brave nature and minimum Speed IVs is a notable option, (AC) as it beats Tapu Lele through Z-Reflect (AH) and takes out Leech Seed Tapu Bulu.

Set Details
========
Sturdy is the ability of choice to allows Mirror Coat to function properly as well as living letting Avalugg take ultra- extremely powerful physical attacks coming from Choice Band Archeops and Darmanitan.

Usage Tips
========
Avalanche should be chosen when facing off against Greninja, as they it will 2HKO or OHKO Choice Specs Greninja with any no matter the move they use it uses, outside of Hidden Power Fire.
