Tell us a little about your experience in competitive Pokemon (min. 3 sentences) :
I got interested by watching a lot of funny gimmick videos on the ladder, I followed a lot of youtubers, some actually very good players, french and english. A lot of formats interested me for a very long time, and I played quite a lot of random battles especially. I feel like I have a relatively good game-sense in general, but I wish to really know if I truly am pretty good, or if I am just Dunning-Krugering myself, lol. I have around 1300 elo on most formats I play, which is tragic.
Are you able to use Discord?: Yes, but VCing is quite difficult. (at Skezou)

Tell us a little about your experience in competitive Pokemon (min. 3 sentences): I am getting back into the game after several years, I played OU in USUM and S&S but I was never spectacular. I'd love to get back into the format and improve past my old peak (like 1400) but I know nothing about SVso I'm looking for help just learning the basics of SV OU--teambuilding, threats and checks, dealing with tera, etc.
Are you able to use Discord?: Yes, my username is job.a

Welcome to Battling 101! If you're seeking a tutor for Old Gens OU, you are in the right place. Please read all the rules carefully and fill out every part of the application.

Available Formats:
SS OU, SM OU, XY OU, BW OU, DPP OU, ADV OU, GSC OU, RBY OU

THE RULES

  • You must be able to access Discord, or whatever your tutor wants as the primary form of communication.
  • You must be willing to use Pokemon Showdown! even if you are being tutored in a cartridge format such as Battle Spot or VGC.
  • You, the tutee, should have at least 15 posts before signing up AND your account's age should be a minimum of at least 1 month old before signing up.
    • This is not a strict requirement meaning you may still be paired without satisfying it, so no matter what, DO NOT spam post elsewhere in the forum. That is an infractable offense and we do not encourage such behavior from potential Tutees.
  • You must have battled competitively for a decent amount in at least ONE of the Smogon tiers or Battle Spot / VGC to sign up. Playing 10 or so matches on the PS! ladder is not substantial enough, ~70 or so is more reasonable. This experience does not need to be for the format you sign-up for; this is just to weed out people who have never played competitively that can improve themselves simply by using resources already available to them without needing a tutor to hold their hand.
  • You, the tutee, are responsible for setting up times with your tutor. When you receive the Smogon notification informing you of the pairing, please take the initiative and post on their VM wall first. Continued scheduling and communication is key to a successful pairing!
  • Use the Tutee Talk forum to complain about your tutor (or praise them if they're doing a good job). These are no longer mandatory, but if your tutor is ridiculously inactive or is a complete jackass, COMPLAIN HERE. Nobody can see your tutee talk posts except for you and the Battling 101 Staff; everything is confidential.
  • Signups older than 4 months or 1 month since last login will be considered inactive. These will be moved to the Inactive Posts thread, and can be returned back to this thread by request.
  • Tutors can and will drop you if sessions go badly, and significant violations may result in a ban from B101. Be active, be enthusiastic, be respectful. Make the best of your time together!
Here is the signup template, and an example sign-up post.

Tell us a little about your experience in competitive Pokemon (min. 3 sentences):
Been playing (learning) 6v6 since october 2022, feeling a little burnt out and out of tune with the tiers I usually play so I'm looking to branch out into other tiers to reignite my passion for playing. SS OU has always been a tier that's looked interesting to me so I thought I'd try this first.
Are you able to use Discord?:

I've played quite a bit of pokemon and started to get interested in competitive around gen 6. Recently I've just felt like I wanted to get better at the game, I'm around 1400 on the ladder and my goal is to be around 1700-1800.
Are you able to use Discord?:
I'd prefer to use discord, and can hop on mic too. my discord is also jzszwa.

Tell us a little about your experience in competitive Pokemon (min. 3 sentences):
I've played all formats across the board, from Monotype to Gen6,5 and 4 UU. While I have experience since I started playing competitive Pokémon about 4 years ago, I lack general tier knowledge, but of all the tiers that stand out to me the most, Monotype is really special to me. I liked playing some Snow/Hail teams back then, I guess. As for my general performance and actual level, I'm not sure if I'm good enough, I have a lot of questions about that because I want to see my level and how much I can progress. I'd say I'm pretty far away from a competitive level, but I'm willing to improve and participate in a Monotype tournament if it happens.

Tell us a little about your experience in competitive Pokemon (min. 3 sentences): I’ve been playing Pokémon from Gen 1 to Gen 9 since childhood and have competed in local matches, though I haven’t had much luck in tournaments. While I have some knowledge of competitive battling, I’m looking to improve further in Scarlet and Violet’s competitive scene. I prefer a fast-paced team with minimal setup.

Tell us a little about your experience in competitive Pokemon (min. 3 sentences): I'm mainly a randbats player, peaked in 2200s this gen and currently around 2050. I originally started in Gen 7 monotype and balanced hackmons (was really bad back then lol) and have more recently dabbled in Gen 9 Natdex, DOU, draft league, and custom formats similar to VGC. I know the basics of teambuilding but have much room to improve; I would like to become more proficient in teambuilding and more familiar with the meta.

Tell us a little about your experience in competitive Pokemon (min. 3 sentences): Played 40ish games in ou 8g 3years ago and never touched showdown again. I basically took sample teams I found on here and got on there without knowing anything. I dread teambuilding as I wouldn't know where to begin. Been mostly playing pokemon casually so we'll be starting from 0.

Started out just enjoying nuzlockes, used to play gen 7 random battles years ago, and watched games of draft leagues. Came back to Showdown in Gen 9 and played some SV OU using my in-game team; am just recently picking it back up again. Like most card games, I'm easily enthralled by deck/teambuilding as a puzzle, and am motivated by bringing unique compositions to whatever game I play.
Are you able to use Discord?:
Happy to, I'm Fothwind on there as well.

I've loved Pokemon basically my whole life and my favorite in the series is Black/White, but I've never fully gotten involved in competitive. I really love the community-led tournaments on Smogon and PS!, and I want to play to be able to understand team building, Pokemon roles, and the fundamentals of it so I can appreciate it more. I haven't played much OU and I understand the battles on a very surface level. My goal is to be able to grasp the intermediate and advanced concepts to be able to compete in some tournaments from time to time, possibly in more than just OU.

Tell us a little about your experience in competitive Pokemon (min. 3 sentences):
I do pretty alright in ou ladder averaging at 1350 at best (and 1400 is my peak with ~50% win rate), but then suddenly drop really low and get big sad. I really like to team build and strive to get better at it. I really want to compete in tournaments but my confidence in winning a single match is at an absolute low. Competitive Pokémon is a passion of mine and I strive to be better at any chance I can be
