I’ve been playing Pokémon showdown since I first discovered competitive in gen 6, and as such I’ve played to obtain a skill level to give my favorite YouTubers a run for their money— despite how unrealistic of a dream that’s been. My goals, however, shifted after scraping into top 500 in randomized formats like gens 3, 5, 6, and 9, to achieving it in gen 3 OU, peaking at around top 50 (albeit it with a premade kingdra para spam team). Now that I see just how large the gap truly is, I’m hoping to take my journey far more seriously by actually understand the complexities of the game like proper team building, exploring any additional formats as directed, and play at a level showing considerably decent tournament participation that shows I hold my own in a pinch.

one of my first of matches was playing a game of ADV AND ORAS. out of all meta games I have played I realized that I enjoyed adv whether it be from the intricacies and details from before the physical special split and unique sets and niches can have.As for ORAS it was the best tier I ever laddered in reaching a 1500elo once. I realized I not only want to have fun in playing these old metagames I actually want to be better at it.

Tell us a little about your experience in competitive Pokemon (min. 3 sentences): I got into competitive a while ago around gen 8, where I played a lot of gen8ag, reaching pretty high in the ladder. Most of my time was spent during SS OMMs just causually though lol. i never entered any real tournaments and then kinda left for most of SV until a few months ago, where i got into GG when it was featured in december and then into Mix and Mega which has become my mainstay metagame ever since. My only tour i've entered was MNM open which i got ACTed in due to a scheduling misconception on my part TwT and i havent really been at all active on forums, but i think im active enough in the mnm community to make a name for myself.
As for mnm itself, if you know me you know my sole specialty, which is of course Psyterrain :3 About a month after playing mnm i peaked top 5 on ladder even tho we all know how mnm ladder is like.
then i lost a fuckton ton of elo cause i got high one night and faded me decided to ladder lmao
My reason for tutoring is to better understand the metagame and have someone to teambuild with. MNM ladder is obviously awful for team testing so I want to have knowledgible people to help me build teams, test them, and hone my skill as a player :3

I've played other tiers like OU more casually and am getting more involved in ND now, but definitely feel like I've plateaued as a player more than ever. I've tried taking steps on my own- laddering more, reviewing replays, etc- but haven't felt like I've gotten any better, so I'd love some assistance in getting better both in the builder and in-game planning/decisionmaking. (Tips about dealing with pressure, be it "high" ladder stuff or tournament games, would be huge as well)

I’ve been playing pokemon showdown for quite a while. I started playing since gen 6 approximately, which I would say has given me a solid base in mechanics, not really team building (mainly played random battles). I started playing NDOU about 2-3 weeks ago by now, where I have peaked about 1550 elo (I think). Though it’s been fun to see some progress in ladder, I feel that I am lacking quite a lot, the biggest factor being my 0 sense of teambuilding and still feel I am lacking at decision making in certain situations/scenarios.

As mentioned above, I often find myself unsure how to create a proper team that works for me personally and my decision making being shoddy at certain points during late game of battles. To sum it up I want to improve in both aspects as it would be nice to excel in both aspects, and I’m committed to learning and understanding core principles and playing more games with someone who has more experience than me and has more insight within the tier and certain trends of pokemon used.

I started playing competitively around the end of generation 8. I gravitated towards Natdex because I enjoyed using megas and I didn't enjoy the slower SSOU meta. Throughout gen 9 I improved tremendously, even being able to get reqs a couple times and peaking around 1800 on the ladder. I took a long break after getting busy with school and ever since I returned I have been hardstuck 1500 and have recently been tilting as low as the 1300s. I would like to think that I have a decent understanding of the metagame but it is evident that that is not the case. Furthermore, I can tell when I choke an individual battle but I do not have a good sense of the major mistakes that I consistently make in my gameplay.

I am open to playing most types but I would like to avoid dragon and steel, as they are a little too overpowered for my liking. Thank you!

Tell us a little about your experience in competitive Pokemon (min. 3 sentences): I don't have much personal competitive experience, I've mainly spent many years (8+ years) using this forum just to read up on peoples advice and watch youtube videos (JimothyCool, Pinka, PokeAim) to see others battle as I enjoy watching Pokemon content. I've recently took the dive and started playing on Pokemon Showdown (started 24th June) and played over 160+ games up to today. I would consider myself understanding of basic concepts and a quick learner. I'm currently sitting at around 1500 elo and would want to improve aspects of my gameplay (deciding lead matchups, creating teams (I use sample teams), evaluating team strengths and weaknesses and identifying win conditions and how to play towards the win condition). I would say my goal is to get 1700+.

Played ORAS OU long ago (see “Joined Date: 2016”) but stopped playing before gen 7 released. Didn’t play pokemon again until SV (started around the integration of Pokemon Home) and have been playing on and off.
I hover around 1525-1650 with a peak of 1706 falling just outside the top 500. My goal is to be able to break into the 1700s consistently.
I basically only play HO and some Offense/Bulky Offense for its simplicity, excitement, and quick matches.
I am not concerned with improving team building (there are plenty of good teams out there created by players far better than me) and am primarily hoping to improve my understanding of making the “most” correct play each turn and why it is the correct play.
