Ban Torment

Raverist, barely anyone used Fly, yet that was still banned, because it was bugged. I have to agree with banning Torment for the meantime, until it is fixed.

I'd insert an Anti-Obi comment here, what with him being the worst mod on Smogon currently and all, according to some Trou post, but I really can't be fucked.

Dig the sig. And it doesn't matter if it's used, if it's broken, get rid of it. (Reminds me somewhat of Wobbuffet, but I missed that ordeal).

Since there seems to be some misunderstandings about how Torment is supposed to work, I'll change the MoveDex entry to be a bit more accurate.

EDIT: After taking a look at Obi's bug report and the Shoddy Code, it's clear that Torment needs to change so that the move it vetoes (as it's called in the code) is nullified when the Pokémon can't use a move. In other words, when a Pokémon can't use a move (due to flinching, being asleep, etc.), none of its moves should be vetoed by Torment on the following turn.

I think it should be banned because if for example T-tar can't hit on the turn it's tormented, and then can't use that move next turn either, it just gives the opponent set up time. So, as Obi stated, it should be one or the other. No hit when tormented + hit next turn or hit when tormented + no hit next turn.

One or the other? One is wrong and the other is right. Risking putting words in Obi's mouth, I think it's pretty clear that he at no time stated that both of those alternatives were acceptable. Torment wouldn't be banned because it's too powerful. It would be banned because it's implemented incorrectly.

Agree that it should be fixed before allowed, but as a side comment, perhaps it should be labeled as "Suspended 'till fixed" instead of "Banned" to avoid any possible confusion/whining/bashing/other.

Tyranitar can't use Earthquake due to Torment! (this part is wrong, I
should use Earthquake because Torment only blocks the selection of a move,
not its execution)

Torment blocks the execution of the move, tested on Plat wifi. Tyranitar's Earthquake will fail, but it will not struggle. I'll test later with a choice itemed Torment (I don't even have any Choice items in my game yet :()

Also, fix U-Turn and Protect on shoddy!!! /rant

What's wrong with U-turn?

And if that is the case, then the move restriction guide needs to be updated for Platinum.

What's wrong with Protect?
---
Gureishia used Protect.
Gureishia protected itself!
Qwilfish used Waterfall.
Gureishia protected itself!
The rain continues to fall.
---
Qwilfish used Waterfall.
Gureishia lost 64% of its health.
Qwilfish lost 7% of its health.
shenlong's Qwilfish fainted.
Gureishia used Hidden Power.
But there was no target!
The rain stopped.
---
shenlong switched in Azumarill (lvl 100 Azumarill ?).
Gureishia used Protect.
But it failed!
Azumarill used Aqua Jet.
Gureishia lost 24% of its health.
ElementDX's Gureishia fainted.
---

Unless I'm mistaken and I misunderstood how the Protect counter should work, Protect should have been successful. There may be something else IPL is talking about.

Ah yes I actually know of two other Protect bugs lol. I'm pretty sure Protect should always fail vs. switches, and to my knowledge, Protect has halving likelihood of success instead of 50% on every turn but the first (so 100%, 50%, 25%, 12.5%... instead of 100%, 50%, 50%, 50%).

The U-turn + Choice item bug has been fixed.

on shoddy, after close to a thousand tests of the % of second protect not working, me and a few other users have concluded that shoddy protect only works on the second time close to 23% of the time.

I have tried protect twice in succession and can confirm it is approximately 20%, if not lower. It does not work very well at all. I have my doubts that this is mere probability.

You're kidding! That's big news, at least for me. I will indeed update the Move Restriction Guide once I receive confirmation.

If this is the case, I guess Shoddy won't need to be fixed after all.

EDIT: Jibaku did a test in-game and says the mechanics haven't changed there. If you could, would you mind re-testing both on Wi-Fi and in-game, and could you also describe the test you're doing?

I will if you still need someone. Should I just lead with a CB poke?

And do you want me to be faster or slower than your Torment user?
