power
uh-oh, the game in trouble
[SET]
name: Choice Band
move 1: Liquidation
move 2: Close Combat
move 3: Psychic Fangs
move 4: Aqua Jet / Crunch
item: Choice Band
ability: Swift Swim
nature: Adamant
evs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
[SET COMMENTS]
Barraskewda is a common pick on rain teams, taking advantage of Swift Swim, its good stats, and its movepool to revenge kill threats or clean up late-gameafter defensive threats such as Ferrothorn and Toxapex have been sufficiently weakened. Barraskewda is also one of the best users of Dynamax on rain teams, utilizing three useful effects from Max Moves and allowing it to take advantage of Choice Band early on while having the freedom to switch moves later on when it activates Dynamax to clean up. Because Barraskewda's Speed gets pumped to absurd levels via Swift Swim, it sports an Adamant nature to ensure it can break through the defensive threats it needs to with Liquidation in rain. Close Combat nails Ferrothorn and turns into Max Knuckle, which further boosts Barraskewda's Attack. Psychic Fangs hits Toxapex; Max Mindstorm also has the useful effect of summoning Psychic Terrain, which protects Barraskewda from priority as it cleans up late-game. Aqua Jet helps Barraskewda pick off boosted offensive threats outside of rain as well as other priority users. Crunch nails Jellicent, which Barraskewda is otherwise unable to break, and also OHKOes offensive threats like Dragapult that could otherwise take a hit from Barraskewda. Bounce is a niche option in the last slot so Barraskewda can take advantage of the Speed boosts provided by Max Airstream; however, Max Geyser already summons rain and activates Swift Swim, so it is largely unnecessary.
As Barraskewda best functions in rain, it pairs best with Drizzle support from Pelipper; Dynamax can only be used once per game, so Max Geyser is not reliable enough to allow Barraskewda to repeatedly take advantage of rain throughout the game. Other rain users such as Dracovish and Drednaw are excellent partners to help weaken shared checks such as Toxapex and Ferrothorn or Pokemon immune to Water-type moves such as Seismitoad and Mantine. Because of its frailty, Barraskewda should be used aggressively; a good double switch or VoltTurn support from Pokemon like Pelipper and Rotom-W help it pick up extra KOs and maintain offensive pressure.
