battle etiquette

I just play to the end... I don't like it when people just quit on me, after playing a battle. It's like you did all that battle for nothing.

Sure, you got a win, but only because they either got upset things didn't go their way or they were too lazy to finish the match.

I'll only quit if I foresee a long stallwar ahead of me with no victory in sight, because frankly it's a waste of my time and a waste of my opponent's time. I can't stand people who quit just because things aren't going their way.
Me too, exactly.

For me, saying GG after a battle is a must, obviously. Also, I hate bitches who insult you for mispredictions/etc and counter with some shit sarcasm after you point out that the insults were unnecessary.

I always say "gg" after a battle, no matter what. I get a bit irked when people quit prematurely (long stallfests notwithstanding), but I just shrug and move on. =/

Well it depends. If it gets to the point where I know i'm gonna lose but it's gonna take a really long time (Getting stalled to death) then I just give up and leave. But if I get sweeped 6-0 just because I let them set up or they are outplaying me then I let them finish me then say something along the lines of "Wow you destroyed me on that one" because I know people love hearing that.I actually have had to run alot because I had to go somewhere and couldn't finish the battle even though I was winning but whatever I don't really care to much.

I think the whole battle etiquette idea is pretty silly to be honest.

I always say: Fuck this shit you cheated, suck my cock. kthxbai.

D/C.

LOLOLOLOLOLOL.

Just kidding!

On shoddy I say GG game after well-played matches and tell my opponent when I am leaving because it's hopeless.

I don't have shoddy, but this thread makes me think there isn't a forfeit button in matches. If I don't have time for whatever battle I'm in, D/P or PBR, I'll use whatever option available that gives them the win.

But really, when master Chess players resign, I still go wtf... they resign in very strange positions, sometimes without losing pieces >_>

That's because they're so much better at the game than us mortals, they can foresee how the game will play out in 20 turns, and that they have no hope.

If im going to lose, I'll leave. If something happens that'll make the match frustrating or boring, I'll leave.

i remember when i was battling on shoddy and the guy i facing told me i sucked and needed more practice i the proceded to sweep 5 of his pokes with a life orbed garchomp then he just left the room, now to me personally people like that should be allowed to use thing like shoddy. Also i hate ppl who call me a noob for using a ludicolo in OU ( ive kill many skarmorys with my mexican duck of doom)

good to see most people understand what I'm getting at.

I know it's just an online game, and yea- it's not the same as a professional sport, there's no obligation to be nice and sportsmanlike. You can be a bad loser/braggart/rude/obnoxious- whatever you want. The point is, even in an online game, there should be some general etiquette idea- like respect your opponent's skills, even if you're better, and appreciate the game, even if you were unlucky. It happens to everyone.

If you have some kind of adversity to being sportsmanlike, fair enough- no one's forcing you. Just seems unnecessary to me, is it that hard to just be respectful of other people? It makes the game way more enjoyable to me when I'm against someone that wishes you luck, and says gg once it's over. Two competitors enjoying a game, one wins, one loses, that's the end of it. Why get all stressy and leave without a word because of hax- when it is only a game?

I disconnect when I'm angry,or if it's been 100+ turns,and the opponent still has 2-3 pokemon.
Or if I have to go. I'll say, " Sorry, I have to go.",and I leave.

I'll play things to the end. This is a memort from Shoddy, but I'll do it in a different format, since I don't have the WHOLE log..(We both have only 1 pokemon left)
Enemy sent out Gengar!
Fireball49 sends out Blissey!

Enemy:Good thing I have SpecsGar. I'll murder that blissey in a snap!

95 turns later.
Blissey: 85%,no status
Gengar:2%,paralyzed

Enemy:
What the hell happened?
Fireball49: Ever heard of Calm Blissey?
Enemy: Who the hell uses that? Also, how the fuck did you get me to 2%?
Fireball49: Trust me,I have awesome luck, and apparently Ice Beam got quite a few critical hits.

Sorry to bump this, but lately, it seems like over half the people I play on Shoddy leave the room immediately after the game. Also, I've encountered some taunting lately when people make a good play or something. It's really irritating me. Especially since I use mainly UUs. It's like, cool, you beat UUs, congrats. But that's beside the point. My main point is, people aren't even saying "gg" anymore for the most part. And they really look bad, IMO.

When you win and somebody leaves, it makes them look like a sore loser.

When you lose and somebody leaves, you're probably going to feel a little angry and disrespected.

Fuck battle etiquette. I don't give a damn if my opponent says "gg" or tells me to burn in hell. This is a game played via an internet medium; there is no face to face interaction. The sole purpose is to win.

The only etiquette I can see being necessary is moving in reasonable time intervals. Purposely waiting 20 seconds between each move is annoying as hell.

And another thing, how's one to decide how a person is a douche. If I just rated lets say for example, 90 straight teams and was suggestive and kind and encouraging, then left a random battle cause I just felt like it, what's one to say? Dilemma? Mixed emotions? lol right.

Have you ever been kind and encouraging? I'm assuming that was a purely hypothetical situation you were talking about.

And anyway, if you really don't want to say gg after a match fine. It's not an extremely difficult task though. Personally I respect the person who goes "gg" rather than "ZOMG hax! I should have won!" a lot more, regardless of rating.

Personally, I really don't care how I win, because I always like to have an unrated record anyways, even in DP wifi. So regardless of win or lose, I reset anyways.

Also, complaining about hax that causes a person who would have won otherwise to lose is perfectly fine with me.

just quit if u going to lose really i don't care a win is a win for me

always say gg even if you are playing a total noob random kid

I've never left a battle. But that's really only because my Pokemon will either die in one hit anyway, or just use Explosion if I've lost. If my opponent wants to leave, I don't really care. I prefer it if they tell me first, but I can't and won't stop them.

As for "gg"s, if my opponent wasn't trash talking the whole time, I'll say gg. If they were, I'll wait and see if they just leave or if they say gg. If they do say it, I will too.

People who think badly of other people who run in the middle of the game are the ones being assholes. Time is money, and there's no point staying in when you know you're done for. Saying "GG" is not obligatory, and if you don't really think it was a good game, then I don't see any reason why you should say it.

I don't really mind if they leave, or if they say gg before the match is over. What's really annoying is when I beat people with my UU team, never have I ever had someone say gg to me after my UUs beat them, even if it was an awesome game.

If you're in a chess tourney, you play to the end. If you're playing with a friend in private, there's nothing wrong with tipping over your king.

Phenomenon explained.

This entire discussion about chess isn't relevant. If there is no or little chance in winning, even in tournaments, you resign in chess. But Chess isn't Pokemon.

It's etiquette. Do whatever floats your boat.
