[Battling 202 - Singles] Mentor Frosty vs Pupil Exclaimer

Rules:
4v4 Singles
ASB Arena
Strict 72h Disqualification. One warning per player. If pupil gets DQ'd twice, he can be kicked out by tutor. If tutor is DQ'd twice pupil may ask for replacement.
2 Recoveries / 5 Chills per Pokémon.
Three Substitutions per player excluding KO Substitutions.
Switch = OK
Abilities = ALL
Items = ON
Mega: One
Sendout = Pupil sends out first.

Special Battling 202 Mentorship Rules:

The twist is: any and every move made by pupil must be justified. And if the Tutor doesn't accept the justification or knows of an action-set that accomplishes the same more efficiently, he may demand the pupil to reorder, resend the team, send out a different pokemon or a different item, or to explain further his strategy, until the tutor is satisfied. Yes, this means that "surprise" won't be a good strategy to use here, simply because of how unreliable that is. The tutor won't need to justify whatever, so surprise remains a good option for him.

Terrible repetitive plays from the pupil may cause the tutor to call a DQ, with the approval of the Manager of the course. This program is for mildly experienced players. If you don't much idea of how things work, then the best way to fix it is with practice, not this program. Same way: if you aren't bringing your A-Game, then why bother?

Colossoil immediately screams as my best initial send-out. Banette isn't gonna be doing much unless I let its tricks get the better of me; Deoxys can be dealt with via Taunt, Dig, Knock Off, and Colossoil's other tricks; Druddigon poses a problem because it can deal slightly more damage to Colossoil than I can do back, but Colossoil has that 20 HP advantage and shenanigans like Dig/Bounce/Taunt/Fake Out; and lastly, having a mirror match with your Colossoil is always better when you're ordering second.

I would want to preserve Colossoil for dealing with Banette, and removing entry hazards later down the line, but Dragonite can fulfill that role if Colossoil no longer can. Colossoil also prevents you from using the first round to spam entry hazards, since I could easily use Rebound to stop that. Some other options I considered for sending out were Dragonite (Would go toe to toe with everything except Deoxys, who has ice moves/bulk/not weak to Dragonite's moves/recovery) and Gardevoir (Your banette is assuredly chosen specifically to deal with Gardevoir, who otherwise does extremely well). In the end, I found Colossoil has more advantages than both of them.

For item, I was deciding between Rare Candy, RCB, and Rocky Helmet. Rare Candy is pretty standard and helps against all of your Pokemon. RCB seems good because I can use Thief to steal whatever item Colossoil or Druddigon use, and Banette is still shredded by RCB boosted stats. Rocky Helmet really helps deter Low Kick from Deoxys and gives me chip damage against almost everything Druddigon and Colossoil throw out.

I went with Rare Candy since I imagine I'm going to have to do some switch control shenanigans this first round, and Rare Candy gives Colossoil a ton of offensive potential.

Its a good assessment. A shame I removed the two grasses I had included during my teambuilding.

Deoxys-D with RageCandyBar

[ACTIVATE RCB] Low Kick - [ACTIVATE RCB] Grass Knot - [ACTIVATE RCB] Low Kick
IF
Colossoil is under D/E when Deoxys is to act THEN [ACTIVATE RCB] Reflect on the first instance, [ACTIVATE RCB] Agility on the second and [ACTIVATE RCB] Recover on the third and push back
IF Taunt THEN [ACTIVATE RCB] Magic Coat and push back
[NOT CONSECUTIVE] IF Encore THEN [ACTIVATE RCB] Dodge and push back

(needless to say once RCB is activated, you just ignore the command to activate it <_<)

Interesting thing I found out: [Payback -- Payback -- Megahorn + Horn Drill] could ORKO your Deoxys, a feat I'm sure a lot of people would want to try. If I do that, I have a 71.5% chance to ORKO deoxys, on cooldown, with 27 HP remaining. I would be ordering first next round, you can either try to stall a round/set up to get me to order second with a heavily weakened Colossoil, or just KO it and let me order second the next round. It's high risk, but getting rid of deoxys would be very helpful.

I could chicken dance to get something else in and preserve Colossoil. Dragon Tail to remove RCB boosts would also help. [Dragon Tail -- U-Turn -- Fake Out] would get rid of your RCB boosts and let Gardevoir come in easier to whittle it down. I would take a Low Kick and Grass Knot to the face though, which is 53 damage while Colossoil does 19 damage in return... ow. [Taunt -- Fake Out -- U-Turn] does 15 damage while taking 26 damage in return, but not removing RCB.

Maybe getting the ORKO would be my best bet. Colossoil is my best match against it, after all.

Eh, the miss sucks and probably puts me in a losing position for the rest of this match. Of course RCB managed to mess me up for umpteenth time, I swear I never get how it works.

Anyway, I have nothing better to do but to attack. You KO before I can do any meaningful damage, so priority spam time. I go with a gauranteed fake out assuming I live past A1, subbing for entry hazards to keep you from getting too much of an advantage.

K so...

I think you managed to grasp the concept of risk management. ORKO is a nice prospect, but that is by default a desperate option. I don't personally recommend you do it on a matchup you are more likely to win than to lose. Or unless the payout is REALLY significant and the risk minimum. Which I don't think is the case tbh.

One time offer: wanna redo your colossoil orders? Without the Horn Drill combo ofc. See which action set would have a low-risk cost-benefit and we will get back to this.

Exclaimer

Yeah I'll have a redo.

Looking at it, I think I'll be fine with damage racing, since as far as percents go, we go about even. 83 damage from your orders is approx. 70%, and with my attacks I can do around 65 damage (approx 70%) and then have a free action A1 next round with Fake Out.

A1 I want to do Giga Impact + Payback to get Payback's BAP bonus on both A1 and A3. The combo does 48 damage total. A3, I do another Payback for 19.5 damage, leaving Deoxys with 22 HP. A1 next round, I can do Fake Out for 3 free damage, leaving you at 19 HP, open for a OHKO with Payback unless you use a low priority move/combo, or Recover. I can abuse that, so I'll go with a damage race.

Even after Pressure, EN isn't an issue, so I'm not even gonna worry about it for now.

Exclaimer

You had passed DQ before the LoA happened.

You have 24h to post. If you don't, you can consider yourself DQ'd regardless of me posting so or not.

My apologies.

Anyway, you have Torment so Payback won't work. Fake Out A1, as planned, and then another Fake Out A3 because Crunch A2 should leave me dealing enough damage to KO with it.

P/E sub because I'm using Fake Out and want to get the free flinch. I also would like to conserve EN when possible, and also, if you P/E that would stall out your RCB turns for me which is great. Recover sub so you don't dodge the KO on A3.

I sub for Counter because it's the only non-combo action that you can do to KO me on A2. I would sub for Iron Defense, but honestly if it stalls you out of RCB turns I'm A-OK with that.

Fake Out -- Crunch -- Fake Out
If P/E, then Chill and push back actions.
If Recover outside of a combination, and Colossoil is not under the effects of Torment, then initiate action string Encore -- Payback -- Payback. [once]
If Counter, then Chill and push back actions.

Apologies if this seems rushed, I've had only a few minutes today to do this.

Orders seem fine actually.

Here is some anti-crit insurance:

Gardevoir is my only Pokemon that outspeeds Deoxys and can taunt it/KO it to prevent Pain Split, Recover, or other shenanigans. Unfortunately, I'm definitely gonna take an Extremespeed combo to the face if you don't switch. If Banette comes out, that would be fine by me. I can attempt to outdamage/trick it. Mega stone is obvious pick.

Well you are in a matchups small prickle I guess. Garde won't like banette, Bronzong won't like Colossoil and Dragonite won't like Druddigon. And while Dragonite might do well vs druddigon, it goes bad vs Deoxys.

I question Garde's capacity to race with Banette, but it is possible I suppose. And you are correct about it being the best choice against Deoxys thanks to being able to KO with like Hyper Beam.

I will bite it.

Switching to Banette with Banetite.
