Giant's Armour

As much as I like torment, making it automatic is too much for me
Sorry, but the tiebreaker has already been determined to go to Spooky Encounter. Besides, you already voted and aren't sacrificing anything else you voted for to vote for it.

I think now's about time to begin the new slate. This was originally intended to be an offense-only slate, but BSS is already pretty offensive as is and I feel it would only serve to counter-act the purpose of the defense slate. As such, this'll just be another FFA. Other than that, the same rules as previous slates apply.

Empoleon already has a Bench Ability, that being Torrential Will, so it needs to be removed from the list.

Ability Name: Fountain of Youth
Effect: Allies in the Field holding an Eviolite get their Defenses boosted by 80% if they are a Baby (Munchlax), 70% if they are a Basic Pokémon (Scyther), and 60% if they are a Stage the 1 Pokemon (Rhydon), rather than 50%.
Users: Happiny, Cleffa, Igglybuff, Wynaut, Tyrogue

Ability Name: Wind Tunnel
Effect: Your Flying-Type allies gain +1 Speed and +1 Accuracy after taking their first hit in battle. (Functions like Fake Out, where it can happen again if you switch out and back in).
Users: Dodou, Spearow, Murkrow, Togetic, Pidgey, Pidgeotto

Ability Name: Non-Binary
Effect: All of your Allied Pokémon are Genderless. All Genderless Pokémon on both sides of the field take 75% from all neutral attacks by Pokémon with a Gender.
Users: Staryu, Voltorb, Poipole, Baltoy, Unown

*I selected the pre-evos to reduce the number of Pokémon removed from rotation, so it will be easier on future slates.

It may be a good idea to list which Pokémon are no longer available after each slate.

Non-Binary cannot be given to Porygon as it already has the Bench Ability Antivirus. Also, did you mean to give Wind Tunnel to the evolutionary lines or just the base forms you listed? It seems a bit strange in its case that only the pre-evos would get it.

In regards to if Fighting Feast and Fountain of Youth tie, we can have it so Munchlax is removed from Fighting Feast, I could see Hariyama replacing it there.

My votes will go to Ancient Awakening (SV), Fighting Feast (SV), Retro Racer, Fountain of Youth, Juggernaut and Safe Space. OM! you don't need to vote again unless you wanna change something from when you accidentally voted.

Bumping this thread for more votes, as well as to quickly announce that after this slate is done and over with, we'll be taking a quick 3-5 day break for coding and very basic play-testing (basically just making sure they function) for the current roster of abilities. If you would potentially be interested in that, please join the Discord. Right now I know that both Charizard8888 and Spooktune have done some basic work, and Ezaphs has expressed interest although he seems quite busy now. As always, thank you all for your continued support. Let's make this pet mod something truly special, shall we?

Y'all know what time it is: The votes are in! Here are our winners.

Tied for first place, we have Ancient Awakening and Safe Space with 5 votes each.

Our sole second place winner is Heavy Expert with 4 votes.

And for third place we have Retro Racer, Fountain of Youth, Ocean's Blessing and Guardian Angel, each with 3 votes, rounding out our total winner count to 7.

As for Pokemon overlaps, I will allow Aerodactyl to get Retro Racer, and I will give that slot for Ancient Awakening to Regirock. Igglybuff will also get Fountain of Youth rather than Safe Space.

As promised, this marks the beginning of a hopefully very brief hiatus for coding the current roster of bench abilities. What server the mod will go in as well as general coding discussion will be happening in the Discord, so don't be surprised if this place gets kinda quiet for a while. If you don't want that to happen, please feel free to share sample teams, cool 'mon combos and cores, general metagame thoughts, so on and so forth.

So, I'm sure when you saw Ancient Awakening among the winners, you probably thought to yourself "oh my god Mega Aerodactyl is gonna be insane with this", and lemme tell ya, you're not wrong. However, I think there's another user of this Bench Ability we're sleeping on...

carracosta.gif

Carracosta (M) @ Assault Vest
Ability: Solid Rock
Level: 50
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Careful Nature
IVs: 29 Atk
- Scald / Ice Beam
- Liquidation
- Knock Off / Rock Slide
- Rock Slide / Earthquake

With the Attack IVs and EV spread, Carracosta is guaranteed a 1.3x boost to both of its defenses, effectively granting it 74/178/99 defensive stats. This allows it to be a potent AV user that can still hit for good damage even with the somewhat neutered offenses. Don't believe me? Check out some of these dumb calcs:

228 SpA Naganadel Draco Meteor vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Assault Vest Carracosta: 52-63 (28.7 - 34.8%) -- 5.7% chance to 3HKO
228 SpA Naganadel Devastating Drake (195 BP) vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Assault Vest Carracosta: 78-93 (43 - 51.3%) -- 5.5% chance to 2HKO

252 Atk Adaptability Lucario-Mega Close Combat vs. 252 HP / 4 Def Solid Rock Carracosta: 135-162 (74.5 - 89.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
0 Atk Carracosta Earthquake vs. -1 0 HP / 0 Def Lucario-Mega: 134-158 (92.4 - 108.9%) -- 50% chance to OHKO

252 Atk Blaziken-Mega High Jump Kick vs. 252 HP / 4 Def Solid Rock Carracosta: 117-139 (64.6 - 76.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

For Arceus' sake, KARTANA'S LEAF BLADE ISN'T EVEN A GUARANTEED OHKO:

252 Atk Kartana Leaf Blade vs. 252 HP / 4 Def Solid Rock Carracosta: 180-216 (99.4 - 119.3%) -- 93.8% chance to OHKO

And this is against the most lethal super-effective attackers and wallbreakers in Battle Spot. As for standard attackers who can't hit Carracosta like that...

252 SpA Gengar-Mega Shadow Ball vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Assault Vest Carracosta: 42-49 (23.2 - 27%) -- 47.9% chance to 4HKO
252 SpA Gengar-Mega Thunderbolt vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Assault Vest Solid Rock Carracosta: 46-55 (25.4 - 30.3%) -- guaranteed 4HKO

252+ SpA Choice Specs Heatran Earth Power vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Assault Vest Solid Rock Carracosta: 61-73 (33.7 - 40.3%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

252+ SpA Choice Specs Rotom-Heat Volt Switch vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Assault Vest Solid Rock Carracosta: 63-73 (34.8 - 40.3%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

I think you get the idea.

Now, granted I don't think Carracosta's gonna be a meta staple any time soon due to having meh power at times, no recovery and really, really bad speed, but I still think it'll be an interesting, mid-to-high C tier niche mon. For bonus stonewalling capabilities, bring a Crystalize user along with it!

I think I'll start a new slate. Same rules as always.

Ability Name: Spidey Senses
Effect: Bug-Type allies gain a Focus Energy Effect (+2 Critical Hit ratio), after taking their first hit in battle. (Functions like Fake Out, where it can happen again if you switch out and back in).
Users: Dewpider line, Ariados line, Surskit, Galvantula line

Ability Name: Hive
Effect: If you have exactly 2 active Bug-types they gain +10% to all stats. If you have exactly 3 active Bug-types they gain +15% to all stats. If you have exactly 1 active Bug-Type in your party, it gains +1 Speed on switch in.
Users: Combee line, Beedrill line, Ninjask, Nincada

Ability Name: Irresistable Poison
Effect: Your Poison-type allies’ Poison-Type damaging attacks are always neutral, even against Steels, and never miss.
Users: Arbok line, Seviper, Venomoth line

Ability Name: Ancestry
Effect: Non-Dragon-type Ally Pokemon that have Dragon Dance, Dragon Pulse, and/or Dragon Claw in their moveset replace their Secondary-typing with Dragon, or gain a Secondary-typing if they didn’t have one.
Users: Drampa, Horsea

Ability Name: Quicksand
Effect:
Ground-types activate Gravity on switch-in; lasts 8 turns if Sandstream is in effect (so Hippowdon can use it for 8 turns).
Users: Trapinch, Hippopotas, Pillosand line, Swinub

*I feel like expanding it to 8 turns with weather seems fair since my Arctic Armor passed the slate and allowed Aurora Veil to last 8 turns regardless of item held. While, Gravity doesn’t require the user to have the move, unlike Aurora Veil, Gravity is a field effect that can benefit the opponent as much as yourself.
