name: Magic Guard
move 1: Steel Beam
move 2: Close Combat
move 3: Focus Blast / Earthquake
move 4: Dark Pulse / Stone Edge / Nasty Plot
item: Life Orb
ability: Magic Guard
nature: Naive
evs: 4 Atk / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
[SET COMMENTS]
Lucario's niche lies in its great mixed wallbreaking capacity and amazing STAB combination, with Close Combat and Steel Beam hitting the majority of the metagame for good damage and potentially 2HKOing them. Earthquake deals with Toxapex, Dark Pulse smacks Gholdengo, and Stone Edge prevents Zapdos and Iron Moth from switching in safely. Nasty Plot lets it muscle through bulky teams that try to dance around its coverage moves. An alternative EV spread of 252 Atk / 4 SpA / 252 Spe can be used to deal more damage on the physical side. Lucario's excellent wallbreaking abilities make fast offensive partners like Roaring Moon, Deoxys-S, and Chien-Pao good partners, as they can clean up after it has broken holes into the opposing team. Lucario's lack of defensive utility makes walls like Corviknight, RegenVest Manaphy, and Swampert much appreciated; additionally, they can bring it back onto the field with a slow pivot. Lucario greatly struggles with four-moveslot syndrome, so teammates that can deal with Zapdos and Iron Moth like RegenVest or Magic Guard Roaring Moon when not using Stone Edge and teammates that can switch into Gholdengo like Swampert when not running Dark Pulse are appreciated.
