British music is a best

We aren't talking about British bands that are some of the most famous in history, we are talking about the good bands that go unnoticed.

The Go Team are awesome. Has anyone seen the video to junior Kickstart? Mrs.Pacman has never been so cool. The Smiths are pretty intense. It was a mistake for Morissey to go solo. The Queen Is Dead is a truly unmissable album.
And Squarepusher again, just because everyone is talking about rock/indie/new-wave again. Awesome house material here.

I'm not being anti-indie. Just noticed that no one seems to be commenting on any other genres really and they need some loving.

stuff that may not be well-known:

65daysofstatic - post rock
Jesu - post metal
No-man - progressive rock/art rock (check it out if you like Steven Wilson!!)
Paradise Lost - gothic metal/doom metal
SikTh - progressive metal/technical metal
UFO - progressive rock/hard rock (thanks CK)
Yndi Halda - post rock (thanks Sanders)

wow, there's a lot of british music I didn't really know was british!

there's some very good ambient acts such as Boards of Canada or Aphex Twin. good post-rock as well, such as 65daysofstatic, God is an Astronaut (well theyre based in ireland), and Mogwai. that's probably all I know now

Can't believe no one has mentioned My Bloody Valentine yet. Excellent shoegaze band. "Loveless" is one of the very best 90's album.

Other shoegaze bands from the UK that are worth checking out if you like My Bloody Valentine are;

Slowdive, especially the song "Alison"
Lush
Amusemant Parks On Fire

Talking of Shoegaze, My Vitriol are another pretty sweet group. Sound like a mix of Nirvana and Radiohead, according to NME.

A few people already mentioned The Go! Team, but I'm mentioning them again because they're amazing. The Pipettes are a really great pop/girl group. M.I.A. is a cool rapper woman is is very awesome. The Beatles are awesomazing too. Gang of Four, Siouxsie and the Banshees, and a million other fun post-punk/new wave bands are from England too. and there are fun one hit wonders too.

Paradise Lost is amazing, Draconian Times is a masterpiece.

Loss Of A Child, 65daysofstatic, Stereolab and Talk Talk are some great British Post-Rock bands, especially Loss Of A Child who are, imo, one of the best Post-Rock bands out there.

Oceansize are a great Prog band, kind of like dredg and the more prog-like Porcupine Tree (who are also from England, and who most people have already heard of) material.

loss of a child got a bit tired for me after a while. talk talk is good but just not interesting enough. 65dos is great though.

Porcupine Tree, you (BAN ME PLEASE).

i'll second every single trip-hop group mentioned, and also throw in John McLaughlin, one of the most fucking amazing guitarists i can think of, and probably the greatest alive. i'm too lazy to list anything else lol
